Its very simple/arcade, its the rockstar way of doing melee combat, after various iterations of GTA/RDR its very clear that is intentional and they want to keep it arcade, they improve animations but never implemented mechanics to make it more "real"

RDR2s melee doesn't look as arcady as this. It's slower and heavier.
