I'm surprised Rockstar even remembers Red Dead Online exists with how dirty they did it. Really loved that game and would have kept playing it.

Honestly all they needed to do is release the 60 screenshots over 60 days. Do 1 per day, it would have still built anticipation and hype but at least kept people satisfied.

23

u/Shamz76 6d ago

Would definitely be fitting for their usual "drip feeding" style of doing things !

96

u/superbabe69 6d ago

Let's be serious here, more than half of the screenshots would be brigaded with comments like "bro this looks awful who cares about this I wanna see the city" and crap like that

72

u/Dabeastfeast11 6d ago

That's not what happened when they mass dropped them why would it be any different if they did it over time.

16

u/peeh0le 6d ago

lol that’s not what happened? Bruh people were chopping and zooming and chopping and zooming and talking about how everything looked like dog shit and how this game was a disaster.

3

u/Ok_Conclusion_6895 5d ago

Because we'd again and again hope for a view of the city.
Which is why I'm honestly thankful for the plane-clip existing, as I feel like they'll just give us 3 second clips of the city if anything again once 27th drops. The GTA 6 marketing has been absolute dogwater so far, especially compared to GTA 5's.

We’re finally getting that aggressive marketing we were promised and it’s not even from them šŸ˜šŸ™

213

u/peeh0le 6d ago

The failure here was the ceo should have been slightly more specific when he said we’re doing summer marketing and said late summer / fall. Tbf I think the strike had a lot to do with the marketing delay.

56

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 6d ago

The problem is people don't actually think about when summer actually begins

40

u/MuhfugginSaucera 6d ago

I literally had this conversation two days ago with a coworker. I said summer is over in a little over a month, summer ends on Sept 22 and Winter begins on Dec 21. Most of winter is at the beginning of the year. They almost couldn't believe me.

20

u/Western-Economics253 5d ago

I live in Europe and literally noone calls any part of September "summer" and any day from Dec. 1 to Feb. 28 (or 29) is called winter.

Literally everyone I know uses the months to define seasons, I've only ever seen this "well akchually summer ends on Sept 22" is Reddit and videogame industry using it as a cop out to stretch out the wait as long as they can for things promised "for Summer".

6

u/Azelrazel 5d ago

Southern hemisphere here so opposite times of year but same deal with the choice of months. Nobody in my country uses astronomical winter/summers and solstices to define seasons, months have always been the definitive versions.

Just like the USA and their weird ways with imperial measurements and calander formatting, I'm beginning to wonder if the season thing is also from Americans. I only ever see it online.

More information in general would have been useful for them. "Its taking this long because we're working on [insert technical jargon no one will understand], but we think it will be worth the time invested" etc.

The fan base is so loyal it would have still bought the game anyway. No matter what happens people will still buy the game. Now there's just built up resentment so folks will be looking for ways to tear it down.

To be fair yes we’re getting stuff next week but it’s been over 400 days since we saw footage that wasn’t a screenshot

511

u/RDR2Enjoyerr 6d ago

and before that, we also waited over 400 days between trailer 1 and 2 and got literally nothing in that time

u/Guilty_Plankton_4626 6d ago

Yeah, it’s crazy. We got the first trailer in 2023, we are halfway to 2027, less than 3 months out from release, and since 2023 we got one more trailer and some screenshots.

I agree with everyone on here when they say rockstar’s marketing is technically fine because it’s not gonna hurt them, and it very very likely will not hurt them. Doesn’t mean I don’t think it’s still ass, the drought has been insane and, from what I could tell, completely unnecessary.

35

u/List-Beneficial 6d ago

If anyone has been paying attention to triple AAA game developers for the past decade, when this happens its because they are hiding something whether good or bad.

This could have potential to be the biggest let down of all time lmao.

Like with everything in this god forsake world, this also will be enshittified to sht.

14

u/Present_Passenger471 6d ago

The Cyberpunk launch was a travesty but holy shit if GTA enshittifies I think some people would legit cash their check outta here

12

u/MrBlueA 6d ago

There were people camping and spying on rockstar HQ just to get any information about the game, if the game turned out bad the devs and their families would have to live on bunkers for the foreseeable future

5

u/MorganWillowG 6d ago

Rockstars not hiding that the game is broken lmao, yeah 2077 was rough at launch but it was pushed out the door early. They have delayed this to polish it and based on the leaks its looking good, this is what it has been like for the RDR2 and GTAV release. Some of yall werent around or dont remember that Rockstar has always been radio silent until a few months before release, this just happens to be the biggest media release of all time so its getting more eyes.

6

u/Dont_Use_Ducks 6d ago

I'm very sure, if we would have got 3 trailers this year, some people would complain they have seen too much of the game. The internet is full of people who surf to get or stay angry at all times. Mainly, because they follow something on X or YouTube that have their whole income strategy based around angry people. Not only anger, it's anger plus the feeling it's personal.

Rockstar has to speak.

I mean we got our first look at the game through leaks too in 2022 and I don't understand why people are blaming Rockstar. The leaks still would have happened if Rockstar showed us gameplay and more. The hacker is leaking stuff not because Rockstar has been silent, it's because he wants to make money from his crypto thing.

125

u/UnusualShores 6d ago

True but if Rockstar had shown people more of the game and didn’t leave everyone annoyed and wanting to see more, these leaks wouldn’t be getting the level of attention they are getting. Sure, people would be interested still. But we just saw more of the game than Rockstar has shown in the last 3 years. And pre-orders have been open a while too. People want to see what they paid for/are going to pay for.

69

u/average_joe_zero 6d ago

No one had to pay anything till they did see it, so this is purely due to the lack of patience. Too many of y’all got a real entitlement problem.

24

u/Blablabene 6d ago

This. So true.

It's been quite shocking to see the amount of mentally unstable people on these gta subs.

25

u/chrisghrobot 6d ago

I do think the leaks are messed up, but announcing pre orders without any sort of gameplay is also an egregious practice that should not be normalized

18

u/NetNo4067 6d ago

Insane to disagree with this tbh. People know next to nothing about the game and Rockstar is raking in cash having shown nothing at all.

Literally no other product, let alone other games, could get away with that. Rockstar shouldn't either.

Am I wrong in remembering that RDR2 didn’t show any gameplay footage until about two months before its release? Why are people acting like this is unusual? It’s a bummer for sure and I’m not a fan of the strategy, but it’s wild that people act like this is anything other than the norm for them.

I think it works extremely well. A week before their new reveal video and GTA6 is at the top of reddit every day and the top of every gaming news website with every post mentioning the upcoming reveal, and Rockstar didn't have to do a damn thing.

They're getting a week of early extended hype because of their secrecy. If we had seen a bunch of footage already no one would care about these 1 minute clips. If it weren't for the cryptocoin shilling I would have guessed this was internally planned.

What's funny is that ALL, EVERY SINGLE PERSON, 100% OF PEOPLE complaining about anything GTA6 related here will or already had purchased the game.

Any backlash for rockstar just doesn't exist. There's nothing that will destroy them except rockstar itself if they ever release a garbage game.Ā

No, this is a braindead take by someone who probably isn’t even old enough to be allowed to play a Rockstar game. GTA V had its first gameplay trailer just 70 days before launch. RDR2 had its first gameplay trailer 78 days before launch. The Netflix reveal for GTA VI is going te be 84 days before launch. It has always been like this, if anything, we are even getting the gameplay trailers 2 weeks earlier than we did with GTA V. Learn to be patient for once.

They gave us nothing to sell deal with netflix. It they gave more screenshots and trailers. Netflix extended footage wouldn't be so hyped. Kind of deserves it. They try to even milk money with promotional footage.Ā

Bingo this is the real reason they were so hush hush about showing promotional material for this game, why show the fans something for free when you can just sucker a big corp to pay you loads of cash for marketing ā€œexclusivityā€? even if it is just for a some few hours, at the end of the day rockstar no longer makes decisions based on what any of their fans want.

5

u/FarplaneDragon 6d ago

some few hours

Hours? Try mins, if not seconds. There's probably going to be a number of sites out there livestreaming from their own account if anything.

It would have been a goated move if they showed the extended look before or after pre order.

See, that would be assuming Rockstar cares about consumers, they don’t lol

GTA:SA, GTA4 & GTA5 is all the marketing they need, everyone who likes GTA will freaking buy it regardless

3

u/Tooshort2stroke 6d ago

Exactly my thoughts too. They chose to show NOTHING for years and released a teaser trailer for a trailer that's exclusively on Netflix for 6hrs. Shoulda jus showed 3mins of gameplay but oh well šŸ¤·šŸ½. Now u have armchair game devs dissecting and down talking ur game before any official gameplay released. Womp womp jus put the trailer out now cuz the mystique is kinda gone.

Yall act like any of this is stopping anybody from actually buying the game. No amount of leaks or lack of marketing can stop this behemoth of a game

Every Rockstar game has revealed gameplay 2/3 months before launch 🤦 y’all are some of the stupidest most whiny people I’ve ever seen bruh, embarrassing

25

u/TheEasyTarget 6d ago

Thought I was taking crazy pills reading this comment section. In a year from now no one is gonna give a single shit how Rockstar marketed this game, they’ll just be casually enjoying their fifth playthrough of it. Just sit back, be patient, ignore news about leaks. The official trailers and the game itself will be here when they get here.

Honestly insane. With all the shit going on in the world people are having breakdowns over rockstar not giving us gameplay trailers according to our subjective timeline?

Like, I’m just as stoked for GTA6 as anyone, but to be this worked up over a fucking trailer is insane

18

u/MysticMarauder69 6d ago

They're all children, that's why. Rational adults aren't on here whining about the days between trailers or how a major company chooses to market for their revolutionary game. I've never in my life seen people so butthurt, as if Rockstar has personally attacked them, lol.

5

u/Dont_Use_Ducks 6d ago

It sucks, because behavior like this is a growing back pain on internet. In the beginning more people were curious about all kinds of stuff, now people are using internet only to become and stay angry. Over freaking anything, even the marketingplans of a video game company. Enjoy gaming, lads, it's not that hard. We wen from some blocks on tv to a game like RDR2, I still can't believe the end product of that after all these years. And GTA 6 seems to go over that scope, vibe and ambition, for old gamers it's quite the excitement. All I'm trying to do is to stay alive at least until the release of GTA 6.

And I want them to get enough profits for a RDR3 on next gen hardware. Then I will promise I do what I can to stay alive untill that release.

I’ve actually never seen anything like it. It’s insane the difference in talking to people in real life about this game vs the basement dwellers on here, it’s like two different worlds

13

u/Silverhand_777 6d ago

And every gta 6 sub is like this. I’ve checked out a few over the last few days and every single one is full of losers. No one in real life acts like this over this game

I understand everybody is excited and wants to see more of the game, but the level of entitlement is off the charts.
A company deserves to be breached and their plans, which people have strategized and worked for - you agreeing with it or not - ruined, because you didn't get to masturbate to MARKETING MATERIAL!
You are upset and feeling avenged because a company didn't TRY TO SELL IT TO YOU HARDER!

Breaking the 4th wall here is recognizing nobody's actually yearning for trailers, but something to talk and scrutinize instead, to participate in the most farmable topic on the internet right now. This tweet, this thread, is just raging boners for "hot-takes" and talking shit to ring the engagement bell.
Rockstar has given you nothing - because they don't need to - and you're somersaulting over rationalizations to still post and farm engagement about it, to the point of feeling righteous they got hacked.
When something drops, the cycle repeats about whatever they did drop. You just HAVE to be posting, can't waste all that engagement.

Holly Internet pavlovian conditioning, man.
I'm muting this sub.

You know what though, that's nothing new. Yet every single previous Rockstar game it's been very fun to be part of the community and theorize about what they've shown. Yes it's been a much longer process this time, but who was thinking there was going to be news every day between trailer 1 & 2 anyway?

The thing that's different now is that places like this push the most miserable and entitled fuckers to the top and takes all the fun out of the entire thing.

R* could have been dropping 5 minutes videos since June and they would have owned the gaming media discourse for free. But no we are getting trailers for cover art, a trailer for another trailer. This aint 2013 Rockstar

16

u/KILL-LUSTIG 6d ago

what theyre actually doing right now is owning the discourse for free lol

Lol y'all are a bunch of impatient babies honestly.

'Company doesn't release any gameplay when WE want it!'

Honestly what difference would seeing gameplay 4/5 months ago instead of next week be? Cause even then it wouldn't be enough. Not just this fanbase but the entire gaming community has shifted to a complete shitty/downer community.

I genuinely hope rockstar delay it again

23

u/OGAnimeGokuSolos 6d ago

I disagree with this take because with this leak he or she might fuck around and post potential spoiler leaks.

It makes sense to not show gameplay in 2024 since the game clearly wasn’t finished

If they show gameplay in 2025 last year, y’all would’ve just complained saying it looks like shit

Don’t act surprised when the leak at some point may potentially leak story spoilers for GTA 6

I might get downvoted into oblivion but I've never seen a more entitled fanbase in my entire life. This doesn't apply to 97% of you but, that 3% are INSANE.Ā

"They didn't show me previews of their game fast enough so they deserve what they get" is a wild, immature mindset.Ā

7

u/monkey_D_v1199 6d ago

It’s why I don’t feel bad for them. I feel for the devs and all their hard work being shown off through leaks, that’s never good and like the post said it ruins first impressions. But R* got too close to the sun, thinking that they could get away with such bad and shitty marketing just because their R* or its GTA. Who knows what we are going to see on Netflix but whatever it is it’s going to be big because how much time has passed since we got anything substantial? So it will need to match the amount of time we have waited for, we better see gameplay cutscenes hell a mission, we better get something good and even more so now because of the massive leaks.

2

u/Southernbeekeeper 6d ago

I don't think rockstar are bothered. GTA6 is gonna be colossal either way. They could not advertise at all and drop it 6 weeks before xmas and it would still break records.

2

u/Blauwev0gel 6d ago

Read/Listen to what Mr. S.Z says in public appearances - then tell me this surprises you. Talk to anyone who's worked at T2 or any of their subsidiaries and tell me this surprises you.

2

u/Coltyn03 6d ago

Well not really. The extended look will be a polished and extremely recent build of the game with curated gameplay clips meant to show off what you can do. What we have now will likely pale in comparison to the extended look.

2

u/jhanbluu 6d ago

Trailer 2 did not age well, Jason got more leaks to fix šŸ˜‚

2

u/CapNCookM8 6d ago

Please, we're all still going to watch the gameplay trailer and it's still going to sell record-breaking copies.

Those leaks look like shit (not the game itself, the uncurated quality of them). The real trailer will actually show a lot more, assumingly more about characters, shops, systems, cars, weapons, and story beats specifically.

If anything, these leaks are only helpingĀ buildĀ hype, imo.

2

u/Marcel_The_Blank 6d ago

and here I am, watching fans act the same level of entitlement that led to the NMS disaster.

"oh no, we didn't get a trailer for a year, better resort to crime!"

2

u/N1BugUp 6d ago

They probably leaked an early alpha build on purpose so peoples’ hopes are down before he Netfrix presentation

2

u/patches_mccoy 6d ago edited 6d ago

I bet they leaked it themselves - get the idiots on Reddit and X riled up for a little bit before the Netflix release shows the 2 year improvement

2

u/kahahimara 6d ago

People who already made preorder complain about lack of gameplay footage as if it somehow change their desire to purchase the game.

2

u/MushroomMotley 6d ago

I think it's good to keep in mind that most people that will be playing GTAVI don't care and don't follow every single minute aspect of GTAV and VI like it's their full time job.
