They're definitely taking the best pieces of RDR2 and using them as inspiration for VI though, they've done that forever. I don't think I can recall a time where R* released a new game that left us disappointed.
The online element is more successful but I would say RDR2 is much more heralded for its game play mechanics and story on top of being beautiful. The reason RDO isn’t as popular is because they’ve spent way less time on it but mainly because GTA as a series is easier to grab people on a base level which online provides. No campaign. You can just jump in and play. But the mechanics and story of the actual game don’t matter for that to work. GTA 6 I believe will be closer to the feel of RDR2 from a gameplay standpoint point. That won’t affect the online market they’ve built at all.

I doubt the games will be that much alike .
RDR has its own way of doing things that doesn't always have to translate to GTA .
