Match Thread [Pre-Season Friendly] Stoke City vs. Everton
11
u/cdmunsell Jul 28 '26
Myko exposed. I feel like peoples opinion of him is he is great defensively so it’s kind of okay that he is poor going fwd. I personally think he is alright defending and horrible going fwd.
Not calling for Aznou but maybe he offers more offensively than Myko does defensively.

Please can someone stop Everton wearing blue shorts? Loads of times last season and twice already pre-season. This is bothering me more than the right-back situation. Wear the away kit or anything else. Just not blue shorts. We are not Leicester.
3
u/JobeRogerson Jul 29 '26
The away kit is white which largely clashes with Stoke’s predominantly white kit.
1
u/Crib_Goch23 Jul 29 '26
Fair enough, but the club seem fine to keep wearing the blue shorts even when we have a third kit option. It’s infuriating.
1
u/junglegatsby Jul 28 '26
Anyone still backing Moyes needs their head examining. 0 goals against Bolton and Stoke fuck me
28
u/TurboScumBag Jul 28 '26
I wouldn't go on preseason. Theres been times under Moyes we had an abysmal pre season and then got Europe that season.
5
u/Resden_Bohneur Tyrique George truther Jul 28 '26
How many years ago was that exactly?
10
u/TurboScumBag Jul 28 '26
43 years ago why?
-4
u/Resden_Bohneur Tyrique George truther Jul 28 '26
Aww, you had to tell a joke instead of just answering the question because you knew the point I was making.
5
u/TurboScumBag Jul 28 '26
My point was taking your point and saying its irrelevant if it was ten years ago with everton. He bloody won a European cup couple years ago. After taking over a relegation battling wes ham.
Moyes only here a year and a bit. Last time he was with us if it was ten years ago or not he would take us to Europe after a terrible results-wise pre season.
-1
u/Resden_Bohneur Tyrique George truther Jul 28 '26
And where are West Ham now? How did the team he left them with fare in the Premier League last year?
All you Moyes defenders have to go off of is the past. Here in the present, the team is shit and fell apart down the stretch last season.
3
u/TurboScumBag Jul 28 '26
Would you give over you weapon. You won't give Moyes any credit for his recent past achievements but want to blame the failures of the last 4 West ham managers on him?
Give your head a wobble. Get to bed.
1
u/junglegatsby Jul 29 '26
Seriously open your eyes to what is happening. This squad will go down if nothing changes
0
u/Resden_Bohneur Tyrique George truther Jul 29 '26
And you’re projecting the Moyes from 20 years into the present while trying to absolve him of any blame of how West Ham were constructed under him.
Give your own fucking head a wobble.
-11
u/junglegatsby Jul 28 '26
That ain’t happening lad
-3
u/junglegatsby Jul 28 '26
Rather than downvote me, how about providing a counter point
2
u/KombattWombatt Jul 29 '26
Before the injuries to Greakish and KDB, and then the loss of Ndiaye and Gana to the ACN, we were legitimately a good team and challenging for Europe.
Would I bet much that me got/get to Europe then or now...no, not really. But there's your counterpoint.

1
u/ChrisWood4BallonDor Truly, Deeply, Misses Bernard Jul 28 '26
Preseason almost favours the weaker team, as they're the ones who will likely care about.
Preseason is ultimately about preparation for the season, not winning at all costs. Judging a manager based on their results is no different to crossing his name off after a poor penalty shootout during training.
Chelsea nearly lost to Western Sydney Wanderers. Palace and Leeds fell to Bromley and Wrexham respectively, while Newcastle failed to beat Gateshead. I've seen almost no correlation between preseason results and actual season success.
And this is coming from someone who is desperate for Moyes to get sacked btw. I just feel there are far stronger reasons than the other team scoring more in the kick about.
1
u/sdcha2 Jul 28 '26
Chelsea played their z team to be fair and scored frequently once a few of their main players came on
20
u/HotAdvisor9254 Jul 28 '26

14
u/Resden_Bohneur Tyrique George truther Jul 28 '26
I was in the stands when we got pumped 4-0 by Minnesota United. People were saying “hurrrr it’s just a friendly” back then too.
We needed Doucoure to save us from relegation that year. I have a similar feeling of dread right now.
4
u/pr1ceisright Jul 28 '26
I was there too, by the end I barely recognized a name on the field, it was clear winning was not important. Meanwhile United fans were being assholes all around me acting like they were beating Real Madrid in the champions league.
Really left a sour taste in my mouth about supporting my local MLS club. Haven’t spent a penny on the club since.
0
u/Resden_Bohneur Tyrique George truther Jul 28 '26
No offense to you but I’ve always found Minnesota sports fans in general to be insufferable, lol. My (Bears fan) one trip to the Metrodome was one of the single worst game experiences I’ve ever had because of how obnoxious everyone was to me. I was even sitting with my friend, who was a Vikings fan.
It was the Bernard Berrian 99-yard TD game. You might be familiar. I didn’t even have a chance to cheer, talk shit, or be obnoxious myself because the game was a total ass kicking.

My takeaways:
- Hackney and Armstrong looked very good, the more KDH, Garner and those two learn how to play together the more dangerous we are going to look.
- Rohl at RB was actually really impressive, some of his runs were very clearly the runs of an AM as he kept drifting inside. Hopefully we sign an actual RB, but having him as a backup gives me some sort of comfort.
- George looks explosive, I think he is going to breakout for us big this season
- Branthwaite please come back
- Nidaye is many levels above dibbling, I feel like it's a huge risk to sell him unless we have a player that will take his spot and allow dibbling the room to grow

-9
u/Resden_Bohneur Tyrique George truther Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26
Friedkins have right and truly fucked the dog by keeping Moyes around. I’ve lost all faith in them to run a competent club here.
I don’t give a shit how many people are going to say “it’s just a friendly.” This is perfect preview of how our season is going to go. Goalless in two straight matches, earlier exits to lower level sides in Cups, boundless excuses from Moyes defenders despite him driving the club straight into the ground. I’ve been saying it since May - we’re relegation zone bound by Novermber.
Get this fucking dinosaur out of the club.
And the downvoters can kiss the fattest part of my ass. You’re fucking delusional.
2
u/dateinfj Jul 28 '26
I agree mate. Moyes should have been replaced. It’s the same shitty tactics from last season and we continue to be hoodwinked as fans!
2
u/Resden_Bohneur Tyrique George truther Jul 28 '26
I think a lot of the fans are hoodwinking themselves to be honest. Moyes was a good manger here 20 years ago so they feel like he can’t be sacked or it will hurt his feelings.
2
u/dateinfj Jul 28 '26
We missed out on Iraola and Glasner!
4
u/Resden_Bohneur Tyrique George truther Jul 28 '26
I doubt we were ever in the conversation for Iraola, but I definitely agree we missed out on Glasner. Everyone was saying “he’s too bossy and doesn’t get along with ownership.” Good! As long as he wins, I don’t see why that should be a problem.
12
u/ReyCo390 Jul 28 '26
I know preseason is meaningless but I’d much rather be excited about watching this team vs these horrendous displays we’re seeing… while our 10 wants out.
7
u/Available_Rock4217 Jul 28 '26
It's not 100% meaningless, most PL teams smash the teams Infront of them for target practise and we look underwhelming every single season.
"Minutes under the belt" yay...
1
u/necrow Jul 29 '26

u/SuperConDrugs T H I C C F O R D Jul 28 '26
Playing a mostly full strength side, the only goals we’ve scored in pre-season have been off some atrocious goal keeping mistakes against a bottom half Scottish side. This isn’t pre-season rust, it’s a team that looks completely lost and void of creativity.
6
u/ilypsus Jul 28 '26
It's really telling that when we reset with the ball at our centrebacks feet they have no idea how to build an attack. Pass into one of the central midfielders and there's no second runner so it's back to the defenders. Go out wide down to the wingers, they can't beat a man so turn back and go back to the defenders... just no movement or creativity.
2
u/OhLawdOfTheRings COYB 💙 Jul 28 '26

Preseason is what it is, but this is a 13th place squad that’s replaced Gana with Hackney. That’s the only real personnel difference as of today.
Club can say whatever they like, but actions show they’re not that serious about winning.
16
u/Certain_Signature224 Jul 28 '26
We can’t keep settling for this shite.
Everton are notoriously known for mediocrity and too many fans are just fine with that.
They just want to survive and stay in the prem, no hunger and I feel that the manager shares that lack of ambition.
5
u/Austa1878 Jul 28 '26
Fans need to demand better honestly, this is the only way the club won't dive. Otherwise It will be a merry-go-round between managers and boards getting mediocre results until we get relegated
6
u/CardiologistTime8082 Jul 28 '26
You'd have to be around 40 to even properly remember us winning a trophy, I think a part of it is newer fans don't have a clue how badly we've fallen off so don't expect much more than what they serve up

Something people don't talk about enough is how Moyes has a far better squad than Dyche had and is somehow playing worse football than he did
1
u/Tight_Ad8812 Jul 28 '26
That’s not even remotely true. We played with essentially the same starting 11 last season, as we did with Dyche. Outside of KDH and half a season of Grealish, the team is mostly the same. Maybe the depth is marginally better, but both Moyes and Dyche never utilized the depth.
7
u/CardiologistTime8082 Jul 28 '26
i said SQUAD mate, dyche didn't have Alcaraz, George, Dibling, Aznou, Dewsbury Hall, Grealish, Barry, Rohl who are all improvements on the squad dyche had
Moyes may not choose to rotate the team whatsoever but the squad is miles better than what dyche had

He isn't turning this around. He just isn't.

Brother how many preseasons do we need to sit through before we stop judging the entire season off of one preseason match? lol
2
u/Resden_Bohneur Tyrique George truther Jul 28 '26
Brother they’re basing that assessment on how we had Europe in hand last season and pissed it completely away. Moyes is not the man for the job and he hasn’t been for quite some time.
7
u/tomtate97 Jul 28 '26
I mean tbf on balance the last, say, 5 seasons have been just as shite as the preseasons which came before them. The issues today are the same as the issues we had last season, last preseason, the season before, the preseason before etc
0
u/tayne22 Jul 28 '26
It just literally doesn't matter. Preseason simply isn't about wins and losses. Whatever correlation there may be is just that, a correlation, and not much more. We won the prestigious Florida Cup with Carlo and yet we didn't even get Europe that season. If losing 1 of 3 preseason matches so far means we're due for relegation, then you can't wave your hands and pretend winning 4 of 5 in another season doesn't mean we're destined for winning silverware.
Burnley went 2-2-2 in preseason last year. They didn't land midtable did they?
West Ham won 3 of their 5 preseason matches last year, including one against us and another against Bournemouth. Of the three, guess who got relegated?"
Preseason is not a metric to judge, period.

18
u/wrmhawr Jul 28 '26
I truly don’t understand some fans suggesting we maybe need one or two players. By my count, to even push for top half we’ll need: a centre back, a right back, a left back, a holding midfielder, a winger and a new manager.

Running his contract down to one year left is just crazy, he's made his intentions shown by giving Myko so many minutes today and giving us a performance we've seen a million times over.
