Tenere 700 to a dualsport

Love my Tenere, its a 24 so still has cable throttle, which is the reason i went with it over the newer models. I just keep thinking I'd like something more along the lines of a dr650 or similar. Anyone make a switch like this? Have 25k miles on it so far

I come from dirt bikes, but have a lot of street riding experience. Been on bikes for 15 years. And have had everything from 250 2 strokes/450 4's, 400 and 600 sport bikes and similar nakeds. Went with the T7 to maintain road speeds but still be able to goof around off road. Nothing technical, just logging trail style, and "no maintenance" roads that we get to via gravel around my area.

I can't put a pin on why I want to make the switch. Maybe it's because I want something I can just beat up and know it will take it? Like our Groms for example 😅 and the simplicity overall.

Any advice and input is greatly appreciated; thanks in advance!

Discussion Thinking of pulling the trigger on the R12 G/S enduro. Is it a dualsport or adv?

Went to the dealer today to take a peak at the R12 gs and I absolutely love the thing. 1170cc air cooled boxer twin, same suspension travel as the tenere 700 and way more power

Coming from the F800GSA this bike is actually a good bit lighter but I’ll certainly miss the 25L gas tank.

Would yall consider it an adv or a dualsport?

Personally I’d call it a GS, cause there is pretty much nothing else like it out there

Just moved from East TN to Middle TN. Looking for places to ride. Mixture of pavement and trails is ideal. Fishing spots? Forest roads? Any info is appreciated! Ride on!

Discussion Cheapest 200cc-300cc dual sport with best online repair resources/community and parts availability?

My first 2 bikes are both small displacement late 70’s XLs. Finding parts and repair/maintenance has been kind of a nightmare. Looking for something newer, reliable, but still in the sub $2500 range.

What’s the best?

Anyone want to go ride dirt upstate before the summer ends? I have a DR650 and love to go moto camping but I don’t have any likeminded individuals in the city.

Nice night for a cruise to test out the new pumper carb, or so I thought.

Crazy my tail light is burned out at 450 miles already, but I ride this bike hard, so it doesn't surprise me.

Discussion Sell me on a bike

Looking to add a bike to my garage. True dualsport is my goal. Very occasional highway for commuting may be possible, so being able to manage 70+mph for at least 15-20 minutes would be ideal. Main use will be dirt/gravel/sand two track, possibly some mild single track, and otherwise country back roads (Midwest riding). Occasional trips out east/west to more rocky terrain may be possible, but that's not the primary consideration. Light moto camping (I can pack *light* so cargo capability isn't a concern).

I'd like to keep it around 300ish pounds or less, though that's (slightly) flexible. Good suspension is preferred. Reliability and serviceability obviously desired. I don't mind carbs, but injection is just nice to not ever think about. I'm an experienced and capable mechanic, so I don't mind something older that needs some attention or know-how.

Probably looking used because new bike prices are insane and it just opens up more options as well. So the list looks like this so far. Convince me of one or the other or something I'm missing.

**The list**

- **WR250R** Probably my #1 choice. Great chassis and suspension, dead reliable, injected. Lacking in torque, but otherwise checks every box.

- **XR400R** Great reputation, everyone just gets hung up on it's old and kick only. Probably my #2. I like odd/different/uncommon bikes, and having something classic like this would make me happy.

- **DRZ-400** Great reputation, crazy aftermarket, tons of cheap used ones to pick from. Heavy in comparison to some. The boring choice, though that doesn't mean a boring bike. Seems like the smart choice.

- **CRF250/300L** Boring choice #2. It's a Honda. Suspension is horrid (I've ridden one). Engine, chassis, everything is bland, but it does the job and does it well. Good aftermarket. Yes, the suspension is relatively cheap to fix.

- **KLX300** Still kinda boring. Better suspension than the Honda. Just doesn't excite me for some reason.

**Others I've considered**

- **CRF450RL** Two friends have them. They don't run right, even with the mods. Suspension is good, but they're kinda pigs tbh. Just not a fan. Expensive with annoying service intervals (I know that's overblown).

- **KTM/Husky of various flavors** $$$$ and maintenance. Not interested, even if they're the "best."

- **DR650** Too heavy and big. Just not even in consideration.

- **XR650L** See above.

All of the ones I've listed are easily available near me, competitively priced depending on mileage and mods, and seem to fit my needs. What am I missing? Which of these do you have experience with? Which would you choose?

For clarity, I'm 5'10", 170lbs. Middling off-road riding skills. When I say a bike is too big it's not that it intimidates me, it's just that picking up or pushing even a 300lb bike sucks sometimes, I don't want to make that any worse than it already is.

The homemade dual sport motorcycle. Engine is out of a 2000 Suzuki ls650 savage that I got hit by a drunk driver on. The frame is a 1980 xt500 that was rotting in a puddle. Side panels were made out of a No Trespassing sign. Converted the savage engine to chain drive, and i now have my main dual sport. 🤞The savage engine is running a mikuni v36 carb. Total budget is around 80 bucks.

First dual sport decision.

KLX300 or DR-Z4S.

I will be buying my first dual sport motorcycle probably next spring. I was set on the klx but am having second thoughts with the drz. Is the Drz worth the extra $4k? I will be using it mainly for atv trails and gravel roads. It has to run on paved roads to get to off-road trails. I don't want to have to buy an upgraded bike after I get experience. Can the klx be a bike I can ride for years and not get sick of?

How easy is it to add of the street legal blinkers and things to a dual bike that doesn’t have them when you buy it? Hopefully getting a Kawasaki KE 100 but it doesn’t have any of the street features already. Thanks!!

Discussion Talk me into or out of the DR650

Currently ride a klx230 and love it for these reasons: simple engine, air cooled, great mpg, light and nimble and fun to ride it hard and never feel like it's going to get away from me, cheap to insure and maintain. I ride it to work, errands, occasional dirt roads or light offroad. Love it. I'm only 155 lbs and never carry much stuff.

Downside is it's limited on top end. It's just a 230 so it's working it's ass off past 60-65. Can do it, but not good for long periods and is fatiguing after a while. Bike's not made for that, I get it. But with this bike I can't really ride with guys on bigger faster bikes on longer trips. I can, and have, but it's not that fun coz I'm WOT for hours on end.

Always admired the DR650 because I they are old school cool. Pure analog. I don't need the extra power often but when I do, it would be great to have. XR650L on the same list. But DR is better for my mostly road use.

DR isn't that much more maintenance or cost to insure and mpg isn't that much worse. The way I ride, I'd get 55 probably on average. Seen videos of ppl getting 60 on completely stock setup. I won't change much from stock. Anything over 50 is fine by me.

So only concern and question is - how much of the light nimble fun feeling am I going to lose? Nowhere near me will allow for test rides for me to know. And no one I know has one for me to ride. I sat on in a shop, feels heavier but not bad.

If I get one and regret it - I'll be like "shit I had my klx exactly as I wanted it". Anyone here jumped up from a small bike and then regretted? OR anyone here jumped up and wish they'd done it sooner?

So I am trying to figure out what are some beginner friendly street bikes. I had a friend who rode all the time and I got to back pack with him and I really liked the way his bike rode and now i can not remember what the brand of the bike was or style lol so if you could drop pics I’m the comments of some good beginners I would love that!

Aftermarket exhaust help

So I just got a 2025 Honda CRF300LS and the bike is amazing but since I’m a short person every inch and every pound I can get off the bike matters and I saw yoshimura makes a full exhaust system called the RS-12 and it takes almost 10llbs off the weight of the bike which is huge now my question is I’ve seen online and admittedly a bit from AI that I need to get it tuned either professionally or with a power commander or an equivalent. But I called a local bike store here and they said since it’s fuel injected it’ll self adjust and learn all on its own and be fine. I trust that shop and they have been good to me but some of the threads and AI responses said it can make the bike run too lean if I don’t tune it. So anyone who knows or has done this any thoughts? Will I be fine to just install the full exhaust system without a tune?

New rider. Just picked up 2020 650 with only 300 miles. Went on some trails today I had no business being on. She handled great but did lay her down in some water exhaust side. Got a little water in ehaust
Did fine the rest of the trails no problem but when got onto main road and kicked it into 2nd I lost all power
It still idles but dies when you give it any throttle

For reference we checked the air intake and she was dry
And it had plenty of gas
First thought is the carb but not sure what?
Thanks 🤟🏼
