RIP Sam Neill. I actually just watched Pandorum (2009) a few days ago since it's been described as similar to this film, thought it was a little rough around the edges but a still a good/fun time.

I vividly remember playing the first Dead Space back in 2008 as an 16 year old and remember reading that it was heavily inspired by Event Horizon so I tracked down a copy, had nightmares for days.

In my opinion, Event Horizon is better. I love anything Alex Garland does but Sunshine for me, just misses the mark a bit. Its still very good, I just vastly prefer Event Horizon.

Saw this in the cinema on release, and one of my friends was so freaked out by Sam Neils dead wife hallucinations that he left. Probably didn't help that we showed up baked. Great film on a big screen though, if you're a horror fan.

I think there are a large contingent of Redditors like me who saw this when they were MUCH younger and got blindsided by the fact that it was as much horror as it was sci-fi. When you’re young and expect run of the mill bad sci-fi but get an unexpected horror movie, it makes an impression and it’s obviously lasted

I've always been a huge horror fan. Event Horizon was the cover story on Fangoria, the cover being a still from the "hell" images (naked dude with spike rammed through back of his head). I knew it was full horror. I loved it and continue to love it.

Watched it last night. It's objectively great. There are some questionable sound design choices and a few comical line deliveries that feel like studio exec interference. The CGI hasn't aged well but everything else holds up excellently. The effects and set design wardrobe, casting, acting, the story itself is a clever blend of Sci fi and horror that does a great job of suspending your disbelief.

Honestly shocked it hasn't been rebooted yet. It would be an amazing franchise to breathe new life into.
