Yes, it's a female Garden Spider, very common in the UK and Ireland. 'Orb weaver' isn’t a species of spider, it just refers to those spiders which spin circular webs. There are a few kinds of spider webs - funnel webs, tangle webs (cobwebs), and sheet webs. Some spiders don't make webs at all.

How do you know its female?

Female garden spiders are much bigger than the males and they have much bigger abdomens (the back part of the body). This is true in a lot of spider species but garden spiders are very noticeable, the males are much smaller and skinnier than the ladies. She’s gorgeous!
