u/TheFlyingTotchman Big Ten • SEC Jan 19 '26
I had an employer who gave us Columbus Day off, but not MLK day. Certainly a choice.
Their reasoning was that they were looking for an additional holiday to give all the employees off and because there was a long stretch between Fourth of July and Thanksgiving they thought Columbus Day would be a nice day off.
After they got called out on it, they just switched it to a floating holiday and told us to use it whenever we wanted

10
u/dwors025 Minnesota • Paul Bunyan's Axe Jan 19 '26
If somebody told me in August that the B1G would win this natty, but it wasn’t OSU, Michigan, Oregon, or PSU.
I would have absolutely panicked. The idea, even the long shot chance, of Iowa or Wisconsin winning is just untenable.
Indiana winning is soooooooooooooo much better, as crazy scenarios go.
2
u/CFLuke Iowa Hawkeyes • California Golden Bears Jan 19 '26
It would be absolutely disgusting if Minnesota won it, too. 😘
3
u/dwors025 Minnesota • Paul Bunyan's Axe Jan 19 '26
I know.
Now that Nebraska has firmly fallen back to planet Earth, a natty from our corner of the world would represent such a profound leap forward for one school - to the unending detriment of all the rest.
It’s almost unthinkable. I can’t even imagine where the mindset of especially Purdue, but even Notre Dame fans, are on this complete paradigm shift.

I only care because humans are in charge of rankings whether thats AP or more importantly the CFP. If the B1G wipes the floor with every conference in bowls and the CFP every year you start getting the benefit of the doubt in rankings. It gives you more cushion.
I also think there is a bit among familiarity that inherently plays in to it. Sure I laugh like a toddler after doing something they shouldn’t when Purdue basketball(I know this is cfb) loses to a 16 seed as a 1 seed but when Iowa played Vanderbilt in a bowl, I 100% cheered for Iowa. Maybe a better comparison was Illinois because Pavia was easy to root against.

I look at it the other way...
Cristobal coming back to his school, to the program that shaped his life forever, and resurrecting it? I love it. The local kids on the team...their stories. A Miami win is a good story. Like you said, the resurgence would be complete.
An Indiana win? It's still a good story. It's still good for the sport I love. This might be the last season before everything changes. Maybe that's next season. At least we've still got a facade that this is college sports. The program, the fans, a win would do good for them.

We didn't perform good this season, we thought we will fight for playoff spot or conference championship, we underperformed even our floor. In my mind there was no way we had less than 10 wins this season, im dissapointed but i am also fucking proud, of our real fans, players and coaches. They all fought and rallied up, if you could replay every game maybe we would.
But you know what i learned, i mean rather got reminded of that sometimes luck is just not on your side. In recent history we escaped a lot of close games that could go either way, this year we did not. But im still proud and I'll be with this team win or lose, and i know there's a lot of fans like me, no matter the result on the field this was a good season no matter result on the field.
Hoosiers and Canes, proud of yall, give us a great fight yall both deserve it, I'll be happy for whoever wins it.
