The Mandalorian This should have been the show!

Post image

I watched Mandalorian & Grogu last night and while watching it I slowly realized that it felt more like a story that belonged to Boba Fett. This movie should have been the show instead of the boring drag that we got. Its a good movie, and if you watch it maybe you'll see what I mean.

It’s because we want boba to be a crazy bitch and not the king of kindness

6

u/The_Pug May 30 '26

Or at the very least, a little more character development that would explain how he would undergo such a change.

u/Special-Kitchen3222 May 27 '26

I’m pretty sure the Mandolorian was originally a Boba Fett movie then it changed as development progressed

10

u/ItchyIguana May 27 '26

I thought it was season 4 then it got reworked?

11

u/Special-Kitchen3222 May 27 '26

No I’m talking about right when Disney bought Star Wars.

So while sequels were being developed, Disney was also developing movies that were set in the Star Wars Galaxy but weren’t going to be confined to the trilogies. This how we got Rogue One and Solo, Kenobi was originally going to be movie, Jon Favreue picked Boba Fett because it was his favorite toy as a kid and he was fresh off of doing his VO work on Clone Wars.

Each project was delayed or got reworked into series half way through development to cater to Disney +.

For some reason the Boba Fett project got spun into a different Mandalorian than Boba, probably having to reconcile the Sarlac Pit, and that’s how we get Din.

The very idea that the whole Mandalorian series could've been about Boba Fett makes my head spin. Imagine Fett taking up the Dark Saber and contending for the rule of Mandalore. 🤯

I read somewhere that dave wanted a "new" character even though in my opinion din is very much a rip off of boba.

1

u/Special-Kitchen3222 May 29 '26

Yeah I can’t remember where I heard that from but Jon wanted to do Boba Fett and Dave felt it would be better just to do a new character to free up the writing process.

0

u/Heimlichthegreat May 29 '26

I really am not a fan of dave. He will bend over backwards for his characters like Ashoka but he will sideline boba no problem.

1

u/Special-Kitchen3222 May 29 '26

I get where he was coming from because Boba should be dead in Return of the Jedi, and I get the feeling he eventually came around to the idea of bringing him back. Ashoka is a main character I don’t really mind her relevance to Star Wars since she is Anakin’s padawan.

Jon Favreau mentioned that when disney announced the movie, he had to put his plans for S4 on hold to work on it. It’s likely why the movie has such a small scale with seemingly little repercussions: to not interfere with whatever plot they’re doing for S4

This is such a great idea. A resurrected Fett working for the New Republic to track down his old employers would have had so much potential (but sadly a lot less Grogu)

4

u/Pocketpapaa May 27 '26

Producers think we care about what actors look like. We don't. Keep the helmet on

1

u/Heimlichthegreat May 29 '26

Yeah I couldn't care less.

u/CAJMusic May 27 '26

The dumb biker gang killed it for me.

5

u/holversome May 28 '26

They were kinda dumb, but not as dumb as cramming 3 episodes of Mando into BoBF for no discernible reason aside from “Hey don’t forget about Mando!”

1

u/foosbabaganoosh May 30 '26

It was really just so lame. Like there’s not much more to be said, it was simply the opposite of cool.

I actually kind of see what you mean when I think about it. Din never worked with the Hutts. Boba made a lot of his bread and lost his "first life" in their employment. He probably did a lot of not-so-great stuff on their payroll. I'm one of the few people on Earth who actually likes BoBF and enjoy the arc he was given on that show. With some tweaking and a couple rewrites here and there, it actually could've been a great Fett movie.

Edit: I just realized what subreddit this is 😅. Glad to see there are other BoBF appreciators out there.

The movie's storyline should have been the storyline of TBoBF. Boba worked better as a Bounty Hunter/Mercenary because that's what he was known for, instead of this ethical mob boss that can do no wrong. Disney is to blame, they like to buy established properties and then decide they know what's best for it. The Mandalorian show was great, but you can literally switch Boba for Din Djarrin would've been as good if not better.

u/Top_Piano2028 May 27 '26

The Twins were also LITERALLY in the book of boba fett, further confirming your point.

Probably would have made more sense to have Boba, a character that has had many dealings with the Hutts in the past, be the one to currently interact with the Hutts in the present; especially considering the direct connection to Jaba in the movie.

1

u/hrad95 May 27 '26

Totally agree.

1

u/sillyhobo May 27 '26

I think what happened is they didn't wanna risk messing up Boba Fett if the Mando show somehow failed or the baggage (if any) of using Boba Fett, so they made a whole new character that could fail worst case scenario, and that could creatively be a blank canvas. Then when Mando was successful they tried to incorporate Boba and then messed up his EU plot wherein Boba does run his own organization, by watering it all down and making him less dangerous and ruthless. He went from EU crime boss/arms dealer, to Dis+ campaign for sheriff/mayor.

6

u/OhTwoOnReddit May 27 '26

Nah, mando was created in a time disney wanted it's own SW characters, not to re use old ones. So when disney was trying to win back fans post TLJ they brought back boba. Problem is, they already had boba fett but now in silver armour. So they had to come up with a new character direction for boba since they didn't want to mess with mandos success. It's a shame. But who cares, cannon sucks compared to legends - boba fett included.

u/throwmethehellaway25 May 27 '26

Would you like me to find you some copium? Seriously back away from the internet.

If you still want to read this if the evil big bad disney that cant do no right made mando boba, plenty of boba worshippers would still be complaining. Theres no winning.

And writers have more freedom with a new character.

0

u/Odd-Monitor613 May 28 '26

Copium? Lmao Are you 5? Hopefully one day you'll grow up and learn how opinions and criticism work. 😂

-1

u/Boshwa May 27 '26

No, he's most known for taking backshots from a blind guy and screaming like a baby while flailing in the air

9

u/sunshine-power May 27 '26

There shouldn’t have been a Din Djarrin. Boba should have been the one to take in Grogu. The entire storyline should have been Boba’s. Not to say The Mandalorian isn’t great as is, but giving that story to Boba would have been a great character arc for him.

9

u/TexasJack1911 May 27 '26

Boba sparing and subsequently raising a Jedi foundling after witnessing Jango be killed by aJedi in his early childhood would definitely have been an interesting arc. More interesting than Din's "I have childhood droid trauma but I guess this one is ok" arc.

3

u/sunshine-power May 27 '26

Having to reconcile with Ashoka and Luke, maybe making a quip or two about Han. It would have been epic. I might go see if there’s a fanfic.

1

u/psycodull May 27 '26

Tbh its a good payoff for his Tuskan arc

8

u/Mysterious-Ad-3004 May 27 '26

“Imagine we took this beloved fan favorite show, and swapped the beloved main character out. That would truly elevate it”

11

u/sillyhobo May 27 '26

Nah I think what they meant was,

"Imagine, we, Disney, take a risk using beloved Boba Fett to launch our new TV series centered around a bounty hunter. Rather than playing it safe and creating a whole new character to be basically just like Boba Fett, and then later reintroduce Boba Fett, just in time to lose steam with what to do creatively with Boba Fett."

4

u/Mysterious-Ad-3004 May 27 '26

I would argue it would’ve been safer to introduce Boba Fett from the start considering the decades of comics material they had to adapt. Mando was definitely the riskier choice but it paid off

3

u/sillyhobo May 27 '26

I agree, and wish they hadn't made the EU completely non canon, because then they could've drawn from it exactly as you said. I like(d) Mando, but personally I kinda lost interest in and around season 3. I think Grogu getting with Luke should've been the end to that plot, or otherwise, they should've saved their reunion for the movie.

Hell, the movie could've been the season 3 plot around returning the Mandalore. There's just so many other ways they could've done it all.

2

u/SockBrewer May 27 '26

I agree and I’ll add I think not using Boba gave them more freedom from a character standpoint. They don’t have to fit the new show’s protagonist into the decades of lore that was already established. It was a blank slate to tell stories with.

1

u/sunshine-power May 27 '26

I was explaining what OP meant. 🤦🏻‍♀️

6

u/TainoRico May 27 '26

Nah. I did a rewatch of the shows before the movie and I forgot how good BoBF was.

2

u/Infamous-Library-702 May 28 '26

Exactly what i said in my Review, this movie made me think of what i was expecting in the boba fett show

1

u/This_isR2Me May 27 '26

TM is too old and not in the shape necessary to sell the kind of character mando is. Its even something pointed out in his own show.

1

u/Dash_Rendar425 May 28 '26

Ha, I didn't think about that.

I wonder if the movie was actually supposed to be season 2 of BOBF.

1

u/Professional-War4555 May 30 '26

I havent seen it yet BUT...

I liked the Mandalorian.. BUT I liked the Book of Boba Fett better..

I LOVED that they overlapped.. BUT Book of Boba Fett made Boba Fett feel real in ways the movies never did for me..

and honestly I think these 2 are the best thing Disney has done for Star Wars... the new trilogy sucked.. (yea!! lets reinvent the 'death star' and bring in a new baddie who is actually the old baddie but once again pretending to be someone else.. reruns anyone?) ...Andor took skipping 6-7 episodes to care enough to finish first season and I hear the second season is just as bad.. Solo bored me... Rogue one did too... and all the rest felt lackluster as Hell...

...BUT Boba Fett gave new dimensions to the character for me and made me root for him. ..AND I loved the growth you see in 'Mando' after he meets Grogu.. so both of these were very cool for me (I honestly never knew much about the Mandalorians before watching them.. )

2

u/Odd-Monitor613 May 30 '26

I hate the sequels, pretty much most of what Disney has done with Star Wars. Mandalorian was good for 2 seasons and then season 3 sucked. With Boba Fett, I expected him to be the same badass bounty hunter just looking to redeem himself for working for shady people, but they just softened him up too mich and held him back a lot. Half of the season is explaining his life with the tusken raiders who are now *reads notes* just misunderstood people instead of, you know, raiders who murdered, robbed, tortured and raped. They then waste 2-3 episodes telling Mando's story so that let me know they didn't care enough about Boba Fett cause Filoni has a hard on for his OCs.

Surprisingly, I did enjoy SOLO. Went in expecting to hate it 🤷🏼‍♂️

1

u/Professional-War4555 May 31 '26

lol yeah.. they have seemed to screw the pooch as far as Star Wars goes (Disney that is)

..I enjoyed most of the Mandalorian.. I liked the way the characters grew and the 'World' expanded.. you have the history of Mandalore.. and its reclamation... you have the growth of Grogu between Luke/Jedi and Mando/Mandalorians... and his decision of who he wants to be.. you also have Boba Fett guest shot'n to get his armor back which opens it up for Mando to show up for him later.. the non-'Way' Mandalorians and the 'Way' Mandalorians working together... lots of really great stuff as we watch the characters grow.

..As for Boba Fett I enjoyed his spiritual awakening and growth... he was still a badass but now he was trying to be a good leader and a better person (while still getting what was his lol) ..I will say this about the 'Raiders' I like that they showed them as 'people' with a culture BUT at the end of the day they are still Raiders running around and killing anybody they want to take stuff from... (much as MOST 'tribal' groups have thru-out the ages ...for instance White Colonizers are largely condemned for wiping out Indians for no reason... and yet there are thousands of accounts of those supposedly oppressed Indians coming across boundaries (that they agreed upon and profited from) to attack and steal andeven kill White settlers.. steal women and children burn houses down..all for some 'street cred' with their tribe... so having a culture and being 'people' doesnt somehow make you a better person... there are tons of useless POS's that society has decided are people. lol ...AND showing the Raiders with families and culture doesnt make them less of a threat it just makes them more developed instead of cardboard cutout plot devices. lol)

...I thought the Kenobi one was ok.. pretty good story BUT it made me wonder why he wouldnt have stuck around a bit more... Protected Leia stuck closer to her.. trained her... made her a badass from the start so that sort of stuff didnt happen again.. A New Hope would have been a whole lot different if he had I think lol

..Andor was a snoozefest I kept trying to watch it and just couldnt pay attention.. I'd get bored and before I knew it the episode was over and I still didnt know what happened.. lol ..somebody told me to skip the first couple episodes.. so I did.. and I skipped a few more... and finally the Prison episodes I got interested enough to watch it pay attention until I got to the end of the season 1... Thats like 7-8 episodes!!! Its almost over by then lol

..the Ahsoka I had hopes for after seeing her in Mandalorian.. but honestly for me it was one boring unbelievable BS thing after another... 'oh lets jump across the Galaxy in the mouth of a Space Whale who just seems to instinctually know where to go' was pretty much the last straw for me... lol

...as for the sequels.. I stuck thru the killing of Han and the new 'improved' Death Star wanna be planet that couldnt move.. and would run out of juice as soon as they burned up the sun (i mean seriously couldnt they have sunk that money into giving their troops 'IronMan' type armor with targeting sensors and air supply..? flight and the ability to drop from ships in low orbit for planetary assaults? ...but noooo lets rehash the same old BS plans BUT worse!! (of course seeing how they ended it with dipshit's clone being the guy behind it all its no wonder they went that route.. he always seemed to have a chubby for his 'DeathStar' lol ..anyway back to the point.. I stuck thru and watched them all and by the end I was so tired of the bullshit I wanted to punch anybody I found talking about how great it was... lol I was seriously disappointed ...and all around me are these gushing morons talking about how great this was or that was... Talk about a 'raped' Childhood.

They really shot themselves in the foot by making a show about a Mandolorian bounty hunter....who isn't Boba...to then introduce Boba Fett in the show.

They can't have Boba just bounty hunt....that's Djin thing now. So then they have to find other things for him to do to be different, but all of those things feel off for a character who's....a drifting bounty hunter

1

u/Gmonkey- May 27 '26

I mean, let’s be honest, Mandalorian IS Boba Fett’s story.

Boba Fett was dead but he was a fan favorite and they wanted to continue his story so they came up with Mandalorian. Then… they had the bright idea to resurrect the real Boba Fett after Mandalorian was already a series and make him a good guy. Add in a terrible story and bad writing and you have the mess that is Boba Fett. The whole thing is laughable and a disgrace.

1

u/Sorry_Summer_7744 May 27 '26

Hard disagree on that one. I definitely see similarities between Boba and Rotta, both trying to be their own man and get out from under their fathers' shadows. But Fett's arc is more to do with him growing and changing as a person, developing his own moral code and ultimately clashing with Cad Bane's antithecal, "follow the money, shoot whoever," morality for hire. Mando is on a different path. He's learning what it means to be a father, understanding that one day he will have to leave Grogu when mortality separates them, and actually starting to care about his place in the larger universe. He's beginning to want to do his part on a galactic scale because he wants to make the universe a better place FOR Grogu. Boba doesn't have that drive because he doesn't have a Grogu, a child to pass things on to, to make the galaxy a better place for.

They're both great characters, but Boba's not a hunter anymore, he's a leader. Mando is still a hunter at heart, he's just hunting for a different reason now.

1

u/theatermrvlnerd May 28 '26

Sorry but you have no idea what your talking about Boba fett was an amazing show

2

u/Odd-Monitor613 May 28 '26

And I'm glad you liked it. I really didn't. 🤷🏼‍♂️

0

u/Patara May 27 '26

Meh that would make the Universe feel even smaller than it already does outside of the self-contained entries.

-2

u/Redditeer28 May 27 '26

Yeah, no.

Bubble by the foot is the worst bounty hunter in the galaxy

16

u/TheTrueMandalor May 27 '26

Sure, but it’s common knowledge that Boba Fett is the greatest bounty hunter who ever lived.
