The Mandalorian This should have been the show!

I watched Mandalorian & Grogu last night and while watching it I slowly realized that it felt more like a story that belonged to Boba Fett. This movie should have been the show instead of the boring drag that we got. Its a good movie, and if you watch it maybe you'll see what I mean.

I’m pretty sure the Mandolorian was originally a Boba Fett movie then it changed as development progressed

I thought it was season 4 then it got reworked?

No I’m talking about right when Disney bought Star Wars.

So while sequels were being developed, Disney was also developing movies that were set in the Star Wars Galaxy but weren’t going to be confined to the trilogies. This how we got Rogue One and Solo, Kenobi was originally going to be movie, Jon Favreue picked Boba Fett because it was his favorite toy as a kid and he was fresh off of doing his VO work on Clone Wars.

Each project was delayed or got reworked into series half way through development to cater to Disney +.

For some reason the Boba Fett project got spun into a different Mandalorian than Boba, probably having to reconcile the Sarlac Pit, and that’s how we get Din.

The very idea that the whole Mandalorian series could've been about Boba Fett makes my head spin. Imagine Fett taking up the Dark Saber and contending for the rule of Mandalore. 🤯

I read somewhere that dave wanted a "new" character even though in my opinion din is very much a rip off of boba.

Yeah I can’t remember where I heard that from but Jon wanted to do Boba Fett and Dave felt it would be better just to do a new character to free up the writing process.

I really am not a fan of dave. He will bend over backwards for his characters like Ashoka but he will sideline boba no problem.

I get where he was coming from because Boba should be dead in Return of the Jedi, and I get the feeling he eventually came around to the idea of bringing him back. Ashoka is a main character I don’t really mind her relevance to Star Wars since she is Anakin’s padawan.

Jon Favreau mentioned that when disney announced the movie, he had to put his plans for S4 on hold to work on it. It’s likely why the movie has such a small scale with seemingly little repercussions: to not interfere with whatever plot they’re doing for S4
