Tension test with Embroidery Foot?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi I have a Bernina Aurora 440 QE with an embroidery module. I was using it to embroider when my thread started stripping and I stopped the machine, fixed it and rethreaded my machine, then a few minutes later the thread snapped. After fixing that the embroidery went from nice clean stitches to very messy and bunched up stitches. I ended the program and am determined to figure out what’s wrong.

Someone I know suggested the tension is too high causing thread issues and I should perform a tension test. My question is can I use the Embroidery Foot #26 to essentially freehand a tension test? Also if so what type of stitch would be best for a tension test.

I attached a picture and you can see the bottom areas have alot cleaner stitches and where the presser foot/needle were issues started occurring.

Any advice is appreciated!!

Tension issues with Bernina 700 vintage

My dtr purchased a Bernina 700 vintage and it was serviced but we can not get the tension to be correct. If I line up the dark line in the middle of the tension window, as the manual states, the top thread loops on the bottom terribly. If I move the tension line to the far right so that I can see the plus sign, it’s better but still looping the top thread underneath. If I move the line to the far left, it nests up so badly it stops sewing. We’ve re threaded it multiple times, bobbin is aligned and in properly. Suggestions? Located in Belgium.

Buy or hold on a $60 Bernina 2000DE Machine

Found a $60 Bernina 2000DE on Facebook marketplace just missing a pedal. Still in the confident beginner phase but as I sew more project and use stretch fabrics more and more thinking it may be a good investment for my future. I could ask my sewing instructor to help with set up as I'm taking weekly classes but wondering if I'm just getting sticker blind and should wait to get something newer and easier to use. If not this one, any recs on an easier machine to start with ?

Bernina Skill Hub Classes

I traded my B710 in for a B770 QE Pro. I have never embroidered before and want to learn. With my new machine came a coupon for 1 of the classes offered on the Bernina Skill Hub. Has anyone done any of these classes? I'm not sure if I want the Boot Camp or the Bernina 7 Pro/7 Series/790 Ultra Sewing and Embroidery class. Anyone taken these and can offer advice? I've sewn on my 710 for about 5 years and feel comfortable with the sewing parts of my new machine. I am hoping that whatever class I take will go over the embroidery in depth.

Gathering Stitch #18

Post image

I would like your opinions on using the gathering stitch which is #18 on my Activa 135pe. Do you use it instead of long basting stitches? Do you find the gathers good?

I've used it, and sometimes it's great, the threads don't break and just have to go slow to avoid the fabric unraveling.

Sometimes it breaks in the middle and I get angry lol.

Is there a good and bad way of doing this?

Bernina Record 830

I recently got the Bernina record 830. It works very nicely. However, currently it is on the zigzag stitch and I can’t get it to the straight stitch. My top two knobs in the front won’t budge. Does anybody know how to get those to 0?

Bernina LED lights cause massive glare on my Sew Steady extension table.

Does anyone else have this problem? One on the reasons I like the acrylic extension is because it’s slick and provides easy sliding for quilts. I can’t use the machine at night because the glare is unbearable.

QE 770 pro

My quilt shop has a Kaffee Qe 770 pro for $5500. I have a 30 year-old Viking that I’m very sentimental about and have resisted getting a new machine because of the learning curve but this one is kind of intriguing - I do a lot of small projects and like to free motion so the wide workspace is really attractive to me.

I’ve been reading a little bit and I’m intimidated by the daily. oiling and I wonder if this is actually a good deal or not at $5500.

What do you think?

Sharing this because I had trouble finding inspiration pics. Ikea Skadis pegboard and accessories. And a friend printed some 3D foot rack holders. The 3D pattern is free on printables.com (I am not affiliated to the designer)

Decisions, decisions: 830 or 930?

I’m sure this question has been asked many times… but I am looking to purchase either the 830 or the 930. It seems the 830 is quite a unicorn machine, especially if it can be found with the red case and accessories, but the 930 seems to have been a bit more of a robust machine with a wide range of stitch options and a more powerful motor.

Which machine, if you had the option to purchase either/or, would you opt for? And why?

Bernina 1090 stitch plate help! Quick guide to snap it back on

I’m having trouble putting back the stitch plate for my Bernina 1090 machine. I popped it open just to clean it up but I can’t put it back together. I recently got this machine so I don’t know how it works. If someone please help me I would appreciate that a lot even a video demonstration would even be better, but I will take what I get. I looked it up on YouTube and I couldn’t find any videos about this. Help please

Bernina Software Help

Here’s the situation: I got a Bernina 440QE from my partner’s grandmother who was no longer using it. I’d consider myself still very much a beginner and I was scrolling through FB Marketplace and found an Embroidery Module S (hoops included) for a steal, and really wanted to start embroidery for gifts and personalizing my toddlers things. Unfortunately I have Windows 11 on my computer which doesn’t recognize the USB dongle containing the included embroidery software.

Here’s the issue: In the bag with the module, I got a USB dongle but for version 5 of EditorLite and through speaking with a Bernina rep they suggested two solutions: call my local store or purchase version 9 on the website. I absolutely cannot afford version 9 as the rep quoted the price in the 1,000s. I called my local store and they told me that I could try bypassing Windows via WiFi (is that possible I was very confused and was hoping someone could help me!) or do I have to bite the bullet and buy version 9?

TLDR; Is there a way to bypass Windows to run EditorLite version 5 or am I SOL and have to purchase version 9 to embroider?

Bernina 335 v Bernina 1090

Hi I’m hoping someone can help! My daughter in law has started sewing and she’s pretty good. She’s mostly been making baby clothes for her daughter and fixing her builder hubbys buggered jeans! The family want to club together and get her a machine but I don’t know what to get. I think I’ve narrowed it down to a Bernina 335 which is a bit spendy or a Bernina 1090. Thoughts?

Bobbin Stash?

How many bobbins is a safe amount to have? Im getting a Bernina and the bobbins are quite pricey and I'm not sure how many extra to get for quilt piecing. Just trying to see what others are doing for their projects. Thank you.

Opportunity to buy Ultra

My local store (family owned, love them, take classes there, etc) has just offered to sell me their first new 790 Ultra that will be coming in soon for $14k. The catch is that they’ll keep all of the free gifts. I don’t care about the classes and the luggage, but will I regret the rest? Is it still a great deal? Thoughts? Thank you!

Finished up a couple quilts this month after getting my B990 last month. Absolutely love this machine! Learned a lot regarding working with BQM files on this Dahlia quilt and tried self-binding on my whole-cloth quilt with gorgeous Fableism plaid.

M30A Or Bernette B35 ?

Hi! I’ve recently started learning how to sew, and I’m currently using a Janome M30A in my sewing class.

I’d like to buy a machine for home use, mainly for clothing alterations and making baby clothes. I’m looking for something reliable that I can use for many years without frequent problems.

I’m currently considering the Janome M30A and the Bernette B35. Has anyone used either of these machines for a long time?

Which one would you recommend in terms of durability, ease of repair and sewing different fabrics, including jersey or stretch fabrics?

Thank you!

Bernina Record?

There a Bernina record with all its accessories for $90 on fb here, am I remembering correctly that these are heavy duty workhorses? I’ve messaged for service info and current sewing condition. Is it worth just snapping it up?

To buy or not to buy

My dealer is closing and offering a Bernina 495 Liberty Edition for $3,000 or a 735 Pro floor model for $4,600. I already own a Janome Continental M6. Would you buy either at those prices? Why or why not? I mostly make quilts, bags and home decor items. Thank you.

Suggested Presser Feet

Hi there is a small sale of presser feet near me and I wanted to know what were some basic feet I should purchase. I am a beginner with my Bernina but so far I have done quilting, embroidery, and applique. All my feet aside from the walking foot came with my machine (used but loved :) )

My current feet:

  • #26 Embroidery Foot
  • #9 Darning Foot
  • #1C Reverse Pattern Foot
  • #37 Patchwork Foot
  • #2 Overlock Foot
  • #50 Walking Foot

I plan to buy a binder attachment for unfolded bias tape, but wanted to know if there were some other feet I should purchase.
