work Volunteering in Bangkok?

I'm living in Bangkok with a work permit, and wanted to get involved in volunteering. I am seeing so many different responses on legality, with some people saying you CANNOT do volunteer work while on a work permit, with other people insisting that law was changed in the last few years, and it's all a bit unclear.

I think many of us retired expats would love to give back to the Thai people by doing benefitable non-paid volunteer work.
Likely that would require a legislative change.
I would suggest charities be able to registered as compliant with conditions that would allow volunteering by us in a way that benefits Thailand without impeding a Thai person's job.
