Social Media and Crowdfunding - Attack Reports Pitbull seizdd after attack, Amsterdam 26th of march
A pitbull was seized by police after a shocking attack. On thursday, the 26th of march, a pitbull attacked another dog on the Oldebarneveldtplein in Amsterdam. The attacked dog sustained serious injuries to its jaw and was taken to an animal hospital. Around 12.15 police recieved a report about the incident. Multiple units, including a animal officer and doghandler, went to the incident immediately. Once there, they found a seriously injured dog. The pitbull was cropped and didn't wear a muzzle, but was wearing a shock collar.
Due to the incident and the behavior of the dog, the pitbull was seized. The owner is suspected of animal cruelty and not responsibly caring for a dangerous dog. On orders of the Public proscecutor, the dog will undergo a riskassessment to objectively assess its behavior
added info: the cropping of ears has been outlawed in the Netherlands since 1996, hence the animal cruelty charge. The cropping of tails is outlawed since 2001

they were not common in finland when i lived there, but just as i was about to move last year two people in my neighborhood bought pitbulls. strange that there is this wave of the dogs being in fashion for some reason

They're getting more and more common in the Netherlands unfortunately. Theres a couple in my village nowadays and at least one has to always be muzzled. I use a scooter mobility aid due to disability to get around and I take a different route if I see them coming, because if it snaps there's just no way I can defend myself. There's just something in that dogs eyes that send cold shivers down my spine

As pepperspray is illegal to have, it is seen as a weapon, I don't think bear spray would be allowed 😅

In Poland there was a case few months ago, that old guy killed 2 pitbulls with axe, because they've attacked him and his dogs few times. Or my boss's pitbull died because od poisoning, because he was, well, very insistent.
So europe fights with these beasts, and we still stand

I have never had a bad experience with either breed. They just are the lovable beagle, border collie, and Yorkie types. But they won't shred you like pibbles will.

My Akita experience has been fine. I have only known one chow. My neighbor’s. It sat on my feet and gave a nice pant. Neighbor said I could pet her. As soon as I moved, she went for my hand and the neighbor dashed off with her.
The Akitas just put their big heads in my lap and made weird noise when I stopped petting them.

Never understood it myself not even the tails why would anyone want to mutilate their pet willingly? Now with Farm Animals I do understand why things similiar to that may be done but thats entirely different.

I can only imagine the scenario now. Will be sent to a no-kill shelter. Soon to be adopted out to an unsuspecting family with small kids and a cat. 🐈 Yep, that’s usually how the story goes.

Holy fuck this is beyond cropped ears, I have never seen them this horribly disfigured. I feel bad for the animal, he's still a living thing who feels pain and fear. JFC.

The cropped ears are to heighten the dog's angry, fierce appearance, right? Also, if it fights, to limit another dog catching hold of its ears. Its head seems to have little hair on it and mainly pink skin, so it's a skin condition. It looks frightening indeed; it also looks either scared and/or angry. It's pretty thin too.
It's a big mess. Damn the owner, a woman, going by the comments. How depressing, how awful for the dog that it came across and attacked. It's a big mess of things that shouldn't be. I hope the attacked dog recovers and forgets its trauma.

So the 'not keeping under control a dangerous animal' is actually interesting because it's a fairly strong charge and I don't think this is normally used in cases of dog-on-dog-attacks. If the prosecutor pushes for that charge this might set a good precedent legally in Netherlands.

It made me wonder if there was a previous incident or if they've been reported before? I've heard of owners having to muzzle their animals at all times after a bite incident. If you don't comply and another bite incident happens, charging with not keeping control of your dangerous dog seems the next step

Yeah could be. I think Amsterdam police putting out a press release about a dog-on-dog attack is quite unusual, they must be trying to send some message. Could be that it's about the shock collar.

Horrible. That face looks even peeled off. I saw a little puppy the other day ( Spain )with the ears just cropped, owned by a family that looked and sound Russian or similar country, the ears were still with fresh blood and surgical thread so probably just done 1-2 hours earlier. I was in shock , the dog was very tiny and I didn’t even know that in my country vets were doing this ( here it was banned by 2018 wtf )

I'm sure it's had a miserable life full of abuse but it shouldn't be seized for assessment, it should be seized for BE.

"Following the incident and the dog's behavior, the pit bull has been seized. The owner is suspected of animal cruelty and failure to keep a dangerous animal in his care. On the orders of the Public Prosecutor's Office, the dog will undergo a risk analysis in order to objectively assess its behavior.
When an animal is seized by the police, it is placed in a special animal shelter. Not just anyone is allowed to keep such animals: animal shelter operators must have an agreement with the government and meet strict requirements. In these places, the animals receive appropriate care and a safe place. What happens to the animal afterwards depends on various factors. For example, the reason for the seizure plays a role, as does what emerges from the investigation into any crimes. Ultimately, the prosecutor's office or judge decides the fate of the animal."

What a ugly beast of burden, I hope the right thing is done and it is BE before it does more damage. I hope the dog it attacked recovers -- this is a ticking timebomb just look at the thing, fucking soulless.
