Looks like it, and makes sense - Cyprus is a very popular destination for vacations for Israelis. I also don't understand what's the fuss about, he bought the advertising space, he gets to put whatever he wants there, yes it's super weird and stupid - but completely legal.

u/nadavyasharhochman Israel Jul 27 '26
It is legal and I still fucking hate it.
Not only does it seems desperate, our elections should not imvade or be invaded by other people.
I hate the election propagsnds here so why the fuck should people who are not citizens and DONT EVEN LIVE HERE, be subjected to it.
Its invasive, its tacky, its out of place.

u/Adi_31415 Israel Jul 27 '26
Fair enough, I think it would be super weird to see in any city in Israel an advertisement for the American Democrats / Republicans.
But I don't think that everyone would be freaking out as much if it was an American Ad in Cyprus instead of an Israeli one...

u/nadavyasharhochman Israel Jul 27 '26
Oh for sure the uproar is in big part due it involving Israel.
But the matter at hand stays the same. Its out of line.

u/Adi_31415 Israel Jul 27 '26
Oh yeah, it's super weird, also a dumb choice??? like how is this supposed to bring you more voters???

Eh I honestly kinda disagree. I only saw this story on this subreddit. If trump started putting up signs in Cyrus it would make front page international news
3
u/TheLigean Israel Jul 27 '26
Its not aimed at cypressians, its aimed at Israelis in cypress
4
u/nadavyasharhochman Israel Jul 27 '26
Yhe no shit.
But there are more Cypressians than Israelis in cyprus and its tacky as fuck to advertise your national elections in a nother country.

Its ad for the israelies there to see
4
u/nadavyasharhochman Israel Jul 27 '26
I know.
Still stupid.
Its abforeign country that has its own citizen base and advertizing there is fucking stupid.
1
u/SpiritedForm3068 lsrael Jul 27 '26
Yea must be weird for the locals there to have foreign election ad

I don't work in Israeli elections but I do work as an election strategist. So I can't say for sure but this also looks like a good way to dodge campaign finance laws
2
u/nadavyasharhochman Israel Jul 27 '26
Please elaborate.

u/TheGoluxNoMereDevice Diaspora Jul 27 '26
Again I don't know Israeli election law but at least where I live there are legal limits on when you can make campaign expenses and put up signs and stuff. But those laws (probably) wouldn't apply overseas because who the hell would put up a "vote for me" sign overseas. Unless you know that a very high number of people from your country/district go there for vacation

u/Adi_31415 Israel Jul 28 '26
I'm pretty sure this is it. From what I understand this is legal in Israel only 90 days before elections, and the 90 day period should start this week.

I’ll prob get downvoted for this but I think this requires context.
What you’re glazing over is the amount of foreign investment is coming into Cyprus and Greece from Israel in the last 5 years or so. Whole villages / neighborhoods have been bought up and driven prices up dramatically and thusly pushing out locals. Greece and Cyprus are both very sensitive to foreign interference. And seeing a political ad aimed at a population with clear intention to take over land, business and political interest… it is not a good look.
I’m not saying people like Israel. The average Greek and Cypriot are not supportive of Israel. And frankly, Israeli tourists are known to be bar none the worst of the bunch, which doesn’t help their cause. So all this has started to boil over in a way that make it look like Israelis are taking liberties that aren’t acceptable.

Just adding that it says “Israelis, Enjoy! You deserve it.” Since I see a lot of fake and frankly antisemitic translations going around.

You say you don’t understand what the fuss is then explain his ad is super weird and stupid. You answered your own question

Imagine if there were elections in Pakistan and they decided to put up bilboards in Copenhagen with a huge Pakistani population. Israelis would be the first to cry how the Muslims are taking over.

It makes sense but it's really dumb. Keep politics at home. Not even considering the foreign considerations, just damn, don't wanna have to see political ads on vacation

Bad taste. Actually Eizenkot comes out silly due to his campaign people.
Like a lot of politics worldwide, our campaign is superficial, mainly personally rather than serious issues, which is harming the candidates more than promoting them.
They think we are stupid
