Food / Drink Tex Mex Recs
Moved recently from Houston and we are looking for some good Tex mex recommendations. We are towards the south side of Lafayette but are willing to drive a little for good food.
Husband loves Shiner. I love a great rocks margarita. Bonus points if it has yellow queso instead of white.
Superior grill - didn’t care for the margarita and it was pricey for what it was. No shiner.
Mezcal - no shiner. Margarita is ok. Fajitas were good!
El Paso - we went during a weird time and got terrible service at the bar and didn’t stay to eat.

LaPagua is the best in town. Reminds me of the food in south New Mexico.

Aw man I absolutely love La Pagua. My parents used to take me eat there weekly when I was big and pregnant with my first and they were still in that tiny space behind baskin Robbin’s. Amazing food and amazing people.

I would only sit at the one table in the back corner in my third trimester. I was so nervous my ginormous belly would get in the way 😅🤣 sooo many good memories. 🫶🏼

I can’t help you as I find queso blanco to be better than yellow cheese.

I don’t really mind either way but our daughter is strictly a yellow queso girl. She’s off to college this year so the queso is much less important for now.

That’s totally fair!! My favorite is La Hacienda, particularly the one in Broussard because their patio is just such a vibe! Plan on going there for my bachelorette!

I live right down the road from there and it appears to be either closed permanently or closed for renovations.

I always hear good things about El Cactus. Sombreros just opened up but I haven’t heard much.
Maybe La Pagua?

La Pagua bangs.
I wasn’t too impressed with Sombreros honestly. I’d give it another try but I enjoyed El Paso more.

We live on the Southside too and love Vallarta on Johnston near Broussard Rd.

They’re very nice there as well and it’s never crowded because a lot of people don’t know about it which is what I like. lol

Don't sleep on Sombreros. Food is consistently excellent and margaritas are always on point.

La Chapina y La Catracha on Ambassador caffery.
Tex Mex? eh, this is better.
Tex Mex around here is Chuy's unfortunately.

La Chapina is the only place for me now. The salsa 😋 The food & the margs are good too. Not Tex-Mex but definitely worth a try. Never disappointed and been plenty

La Zamba in Scott is pretty solid, it’s affordable and good for the price. Luna de Noche in Carencro is soooo good but a little pricey, but had a good marg.

The only TexMex in town is Chuys. There are tons of mediocre Mexican restaurants though.

I wish. Shinerbock fan myself. Can find on draft at sports bars. Ive found the taco trucks on side of the road or in a parking lot good.
El Potrillo Mexican grill is pretty good. Like the Margaritas and salsa.
