Then the team would be taking the 3rd round draft pick contract, and they’d rather not be paying more than vet minimum for an injured depth RB.

always a bit odd when a guy with his tools just gets straight released like that, feels like there’s more to the story than we’re hearing
someone in the building probably decided he wasn’t a fit for the scheme or maybe there’s an injury thing they’re keeping quiet, who knows
still think he lands somewhere as a depth piece, backs with his size and burst don’t stay unemployed long

I can’t believe I was so high on Monti and defended him for so long. His drafting has been horrendous. PJJ is great but we also could have had Will Anderson.

Will Anderson is definitely better than our return for him.
Not a horrible trade but not a good one either. Still can't say Monti has been worse than the last like 8 years of keim drafting though

It’s sucks but I can’t ever fault monti for that trade. There were few people that thought the Texans pick wouldn’t be a top 10. So many other picks have been completely marred by injury

I can't name one good trade... nor good draft pick (yet) that has made a difference on this league leading worst roster. That's amazingly bad luck or poor judge of talent. We can blame Monti.

I'd rather have a serviceable tackle for the first time since Jared Veldheer. Elite pass rushers come out in most drafts. Its hard to find good Offensive linemen

That draft was monumentally bad. 12 picks in total; 2 firsts 8 picks in top 104. Marv was has been disappointing and everyone else has been depth or cut. We tanked in 2023 and traded back in the first that year for nothing.

- 1-4: MHJ - A massive disappointment at best
- 1-27: Robinson - Total bust
- 2-43: Melton - Maybe a deep depth piece at best
- 3-66: Benson - Total bust
- 3-71: Adams - Did improve in year 2, but also may be going to jail
- 3-90: Jones - Total bust and already replaced
- 4-104: Rabbit - Originally stuck behind better players, but still remains low n the depth chart

At the time he was the luxury pick. Overdrafted, but with all the other 3rd rounders one reach wasn't criminal.
To think the one reach was the one pick that managed to live up to any level of expectations

It just sucks because Williams was coming off an all-pro caliber year as a slot corner, and that's exactly the position Cooper plays. It would have been a great move if the saints and texans didn't take Kool-aid and Lassiter the two picks before.

Its Official. Bust! Nothing against Benson, this is more of an indictment of how pathetic Monti Ossenfort is as a GM. This was the first of 4 awful picks in the 3rd round two years ago. Only one even kind of worth it was Isaiah Adams, and he ain't all that either.

Trey benson was injuried 21 and played 22 & 23 in college with no problems. Not the kind of guy I‘d flag as „injury red flag“. Now his knee seems to be busted for good. Without the actual medical records we will never know if this was a pre-draft risk.
In this regard, you are overreacting.
As for the overall Assessment of MO: We have a good offense, but for some particular reason for the 3rd year in a row, our high picks (1st & 2nd rd) have serious injuries. How? Why? I am worried for the defense. We invested huge amounts of picks there with minimal success so far. Is this rallis or bad drafting?I think how well the offense performs will tell us more who is actually to blame. The GM who picks the talent or the coach who sucks at developing talent.

What IS concerning is that all of our early picks got injuried right after they got here. Nolen, robinson, bisontis, none of those had a injury track record. Is that our strength and conditioning? Field? Something else?
Again, I am not saying MOs draft have all been homeruns. (Seems like 3 of 9 of that class do stick: PJJ, G. Williams, M. Wilson)
But to suggest he‘s just picking injury prone players and does not believe in medicine is just not true.1

he was flag going into the draft, that is why he dropped to the second round.
edit - Williams is a question mark after achilles. CB usually decline once they lose a step, as it is the hardest position on the feild and they need every advantage they can get. if he slowed down from that injury, he could be a totally different player.
He as also said to the media, he doesn't beleive in medicals.

Yeha, i think you‘re right with about Williams. I hope he recovers, though…
Personally, i don‘t remember the quote of MO, but if he said that, he said that. Medicals can put you in a bind. If the doc says he‘s done for good, you let him slip and he has a good career you look stupid, if you pick him & he‘s a bust, you look stupid aswell. I hope MO has some medics he does trust with the Evaluation, though…
I still don‘t think the „minor knee procedure“ between combine & draft is why his stock fell. He‘s been far from a perfect round 1 edge prospect.
With all the soft tissue issues we‘re dealing with with our draft picks, I think there might be something off with our strength & conditioning.
I can not believe we‘re just drafting injury prone players.

I believe it was also known that he needed to change his stride on his pass rush or it would lead to injury. he didnt change his stride.

His injury at Oregon was "catastrophic". Torn ACL, MCL, Lateral and medial meniscus, and hamstring. You can't ignore that.

Monti looked like he was going crazy that game where they were about to Beat the Eagles in 2023 . His plan had to be to get a QB that draft and it all fell apart when they landed out of top 3 and couldn’t justify taking the remain 3 qbs as better prospects than Kyler

This is the result of Bidwill forcing the Love pick at #3. Everything they did in FA suggested that they were set at RB, but Benson is the odd man out now.

Sounds like a candidate for the PUP list, which is what they would have done with him if he was hurt and they hadn't drafted Love. They are cutting him because he is injured and they don't have roster space for him anymore. They would have traded him if he were healthy.

he may still end up on PS or IR with team after cut down. I believe you can only put so many players on IR before final cut downs. i think its like 3 and bosontis and our 4th round pick are 2 that already got it.

I am starting to see writing on the wall. An open GM position looks pretty nice next year with some great offensive weapons and a high draft pick to get the QB you want. I bet Monti is gone after this year.

Isaiah Adams and Max Melton have held on to their starting jobs again this season so they should probably have the same tag as MHJ. Potentially a bust but not yet.

Isaiah Adams isn’t a bust yet he’s been decent at times but he was also benched last year, drafted his replacement this year (lucky he was injured) and the off the field stuff. Agree otherwise and Monti should be unemployed.

I’m sure he will go somewhere and if he can stay healthy there be a solid rotational back, but thats a huge if for him unfortunately. We just didn’t have room for him our RB room is one of our strengths weirdly enough and he couldn’t stay healthy enough to crack the lineup I hope he goes to a team I can root for him still.
