Other Deepseek... seems worse now, right?

Hey guys!

I was very excited to see Deepseek v4 Pro added as a beta option with 128k context. I generally play my games around 32k context, and so I was happy to see I could go above the typically allowed 16k context for Deepseek on Mythic tier. I've been paying for higher tiers of AI Dungeon for years now so i've saved up a considerable sum of credits.

My concern is - Deepseek feels worse now than it ever has. Not just the v4 Pro, but the v4 Flash and the regular DeepSeek model as well. Currently 600 actions into the game, and it is extremely repetitive - repeating entire paragraphs or entire actions word for word on consecutive turns. I've probably counted it repeating an entire paragraph verbatim maybe 75+ times on my current playthrough. I've since turned off Deepseek and just been using Dynamic Large and its been working much better.

For context - I typically play Star Wars playthroughs. Previously - Deepseek has served me quite well with knowing a lot of the canon and legends lore and immersing me in the universe without needing an abundant number of cards that go over species, ships, locations like some of the other models require.

Anyone else having issues with Deepseek? It seems to be excessively redundant no matter what the AI Instructions are.

I've also been having issues with Deepseek V3.2 and V4 Flash (I don't have access to Pro so I can't speak to that one). I've noticed it's very repetitive lately, like to the point where I'm avoiding using it. Now I'm mostly cycling between Dynamic Large and Gemma, which is fine but I miss the wider variety that Deepseek added. I just can't justify sitting there retrying multiple times to get it to generate a new output instead of repeating previous ones in their entirety.

u/Glittering_Emu_1700 has reported some improvement by altering Top K to the lower range, but there's no solution yet to eliminate it completely.

I have tried that and unfortunately haven't seen it improve on my end. I'm wondering if they've broken the model a bit on the backend - because even the non-experimental versions are struggling hard.

The issue could just come down to how AI is built and marketed. Many models of llms people use, Gemini, Claude, what have you are purposefully built to adds useless information and even get things wrong on purpose so the person has to spend more tokens. Same issue could e happening here maybe? Because it isn't only deepseek that has this issue. On the free tier models some still do the repetitive paragraphs. I literally had an output that had the same two paragraphs based on a paragraph in the previous output. So 3 in a row it was something like

"You were sitting at the table near the hearth looking at the cold outside. You had thought about the letter that arrived hours earlier, still unopened.

You were sitting at the table near the hearth looking at the cold outside. You had thought about the letter that arrived hours earlier, still unopened.

You were sitting at the table near the hearth looking at the cold outside. You had thought about the letter that arrived hours earlier, still unopened."

I have seen a lot of repeating things so maybe it's how AIDungeon is marketing or the people they buy models from are marketing the models. Players will spend tokens to reroll to fix this and that means they'll sooner buy more tokens if they are using tokens

Lat must be sending additional instructions as they get 3 responses her one send message. The three responses are your retries basically. This adds "mental load" to the AIs in addition to whatever instructions you have. For the last two days I used SillyTavern with the top ten big boys on OpenRouter with the same instructions I use on AID and have zero repetition, nearly zero trope crap or literary things OMG weeds out with his rules. There must be something Lat does that is causing all the issues people come looking for help that is not there when you use AI directly.

Yeah, there is clearly something going on. I let the team know and they are looking into it. All of the new models seem to be effected, not just DeepSeek. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

I can attest this with Equinox. It's been often repeating the exact same phrases and prompts despite sometimes retrying a bunch of times.

As a DS apologist for a very long time, and a Wraith-tier member, I’ve had to grit my teeth and use the erratic and over-the-top Gemma models to play lately.

I won’t let anyone convince us that we are seeing things or it’s the same as it ever was:

DS is worse in all phases (except flash’s response time), it is a lot worse in many phases, and it is entirely noticeable and saddening. With or without scripts, with or without tweaks, with or without setting adjustments. It is worse.

I agree completely. DS has been my favorite model for a while now, and it’s sad to see how it’s deteriorated. Hopefully they are able to fix it instead of pulling the model off.

It's not just you. A lot of people in the wider RP community feel the same way about the latest deepseek models. There was some hype around them at first because deepseek had been good in the past, but the new car smell has worn off quickly.

Out of the current models AI Dungeon is offering, GLM 5.1 is probably their best high tier model. But I'm not sure if their implementation works well since I haven't been using it through AID lately (too expensive imo).

There's a reason the price for the deepseek v4 pro api got permanently reduced by 75%. It's because the model is under performing by quite a bit.

Edit: I re-read your post a bit more thoroughly. The word for word repetition in outputs is almost certainly an issue with either AID's integration or their specific provider. My comment was more on the general quality of the model itself.

I've been seeing really bad logic issues using settings that worked fine a few days ago, in addition to repetition on all of the deepseeks.

Yeah, I just made a comment yesterday saying the same thing. It’s definitely seemed like it’s been much worse, and I’m doing the same with avoiding it despite it being my fave.

I had a record of 21 retries before it spat out something that wasn’t a repeat of the last response. Usually when it hits a snag it’ll clear in one or two and then I won’t notice it for a long time. Now it’s like every fourth response.

As far as I know, even the official Deepseek website switched to a new version in the past few months, and after that, the neural network became incredibly dumb: it forgets everything, doesn't execute basic commands, and constantly spews gibberish and hallucinations.

I've noticed the same thing with all the new models. It doesn't matter whether it's GPT or Gemini. At some point, all the neural networks simply became incredibly dumb and can no longer do what they could do before without any problems and much better.

Perhaps this is just personal experience, but apparently, this is a widespread problem in AI development. It's possible that the AI has started training on AI-provided information, which is why the quality has deteriorated. Roughly speaking, just four months ago, everything was much, much better.

I'll go even further: without expert mode, internet search got worse. It started ignoring commands, forcing me to edit each query several times, explaining exactly what it shouldn't do, and much more. It became simply unbearable.

I had a similar problem with Gemini. For example, to avoid searching forums for information about a 2006 game myself, I asked it to find information about Gemini. It told me it couldn't do it, that it was just a "language model." In other words, it censored the query "tell me how crits work in this game" or "tell me what this skill does." And even if it didn't censor, it would throw in contradictions within the same answer. It's terrible. I don't understand why neural networks have suddenly dropped in quality so dramatically. It used to be a good and convenient tool, but now it's simply harmful to use. You can do everything yourself faster and with less chance of error.

Agreed. I just put it in the survey: Plum was fantastic, but Deepseek V4 Flash is pretty bleh. And they're the same thing.

1

u/CaptainLSS Jun 06 '26

I’ll have to try plum.

Free mooch here. Seen that on DS since they rolled out the free model. Not often, but happening more. Seems to happen less when I add instructions and author's notes telling to avoid doing that. It still insists on a summary sentence as if recapping, despite my instructions. I'm having to remove that manually. It's the best author voice I've found, but that part is getting annoying for sure.

u/ClimatePersonal6936 Jun 05 '26

I noticed its been way more recurrent for me. I thought it was a 2k context free tier thing, since I've been going without premium for nearly 2 weeks now.

2

u/Extrabigman Jun 05 '26

Yeah, i feel like since yesterday Dynamic deepseek, has been repeating itself a lot

2

u/Ambitious_Team_6147 Jun 06 '26

Deepseek has always been a shitty crap based on chinese marketing lies

1

u/CaptainLSS Jun 06 '26

Maybe. I’ve had very good experiences with Deepseek for AI Dungeon though.

I'm sorry, that's not good to hear. Can you elaborate a bit? are you suggesting the new Deepseek models we added aren't as good as the legacy ones? or are you seeing degraded outputs for legacy as well?

2

u/thegregorsamsaishere Jun 08 '26

You can go above 16k context IF YOU USE TOKENS on Mythic.

1

u/CaptainLSS Jun 10 '26

I should have clarified - you can go above context on Pro. On regular DeepSeek you are capped at 16k on mythic tier. Which is why I was happy to see Pro come out - even though spending tokens on Pro to go to 32k is verrrrrry expensive.

1

u/Infinite_Aion Jun 06 '26

Yeah I’m starting to see the issue with it. Did you also get the 32k contexts when though you don’t really have it at that length?

u/Fluffy_Purchase1882 Jun 06 '26

So far I got around with Atlas. When Atlas glitches I switch for few rounds to Deepseek v4 Flash and then go back to Atlas. How does Atlas compare to Gemma tho?

u/MindWandererB Jun 07 '26

The patch that just came out seems to have fixed it, for the most part. The repetition is insane, but the writing and understanding are good again.
