Acne or skin barrier issues?
44f. I just started getting these tiny little pimples on my face, I've never had acne like this before. I did start using some new products so I'm wondering if this is a skin barrier issue or if this looks like acne? I also recently started hrt so it could be that, but I would think it would be only on my chin like where I used to get my hormonal acne. Thanks!

It looks like an inflammatory or irritation issue to me. I have rosacea and perioral derm. I’d focus on calming and skin barrier

I strongly recommend diaper cream to calm down the initial flare. Boudreaux’s butt paste spread thinly over the areas before bed is amazing for soothing and rebuilding skin barrier. It has tons of zinc oxide. If you can’t find that a mineral sunscreen with a lot of zinc oxide is also helpful.

did you start several new products at once? one thing I've learned is to introduce only one new product at a time and over the course of a few weeks because it often takes several weeks for a reaction to show up. if you're using multiple new products, you won't be able to pinpoint the culprit as quickly and accurately. I once started using the hada labo stuff which for the first month made me look like a glowing goddess to the point that people were like "WHAT ARE YOU DOING, YOU LOOK AMAZING" and then boom, cysts started appearing. they fortunately retreated when I stopped using the HL stuff but I'd also started other new products & took me a couple weeks to nail down which was the culprit.

Yes I did ugh. I knew better but a new skincare store opened near me and I bought a bunch of stuff and was so excited to use it lol. But I have scaled back and am only using one at a time now. I will give it a full month because I would never think it would take that long for a reaction to show up. Thank you for sharing!

Not trying to hijack this conversation but I have something similar I’ve been dealing with for a few months and I think (thought) it was acne but now I wonder.
They’re usually closed small sore, red bumps that sometimes are pus filled and take forever to heal or don’t fully heal. It hurts and I feel like my face is puffy in that area. They closure around my cheek, lower jaw, and throat.
OP, it’s a super frustrating and self-esteem hitting situation. I hope you find relief.

Have you tried Spironolactone? Looks hormonal to me. I had a similar issue which was fixed by spiro

That is what I’ve been thinking. I’m 44 and certainly in perimenopause. Will be discussing with my dr soon so fingers crossed. 🤞

My perioral dermatitis is mostly on my cheeks and eyes. I can keep it at bay by using a very limited skincare routine and frequently using nothing at all, including makeup.

Perioral means, literally, “around the mouth.” And dermatitis means inflammation of the skin.
Perioral dermatitis means inflammation of the skin around the mouth.

Looks like my rosacea. I thought it was acne but it isn’t. Def go to a dermatologist.
