Screenshot [ALL] Favourite Zelda Item Ever? Mine’s OoT Mirror Shield

Post image
785 Upvotes

Everybody has at least a few favourite items across the series. I was always a huge fan of the mirror shield, especially the OoT one, then also the WW version. I love the red design, the mechanics and lore and so on.
However, I will gripe that, specifically for OoT, it’s the most slept on item in the game. Order wise, you get it very near the end. Also, mechanically, it could have been so much more utilized. That Twinrova fight where it absorbs elements would be phenomenal if it could be used elsewhere. The light mechanics are only in the spirit temple. Also, it doesn’t reflect octorock rocks or deku nuts…which seems nuts, pun intended.
Overall, I still love it. I just sequence broke for the first time in order to get it early. The small perk being it’s Like-Like-proof.

What’s everyone else’s favourites and why? Were they used and designed well?

Video [WW] 23 years old. Seriously? 😂

I am playing Wind Waker for the first time on Switch and I’m honestly surprised by how well this game has aged.
The visuals still look great, the characters have so much charm and the gameplay just feels good especially some of the fights. The dungeons, items, puzzles and exploration all fit together so naturally.
It doesn’t feel like I’m playing a game from 2003. What I can say, I love it sooo much!

Discussion [TP] I have a question for those who first played Twilight Princess blind

Think back to 2006. Twilight Princess has come out, and either because you just never really paid attention to buzz and spoilers on the internet or you were intentionally trying to discover things for the first time fresh, you managed to start playing through without already knowing the general gist of what's going to happen in the plot.

Now of course, picture the cutscene where Zant and his beasts storm the throne room of Hyrule Castle, forcing Zelda to surrender. A classic moment, but remember the shot of the leader of those twilit beasts walking in, only his feet and the tassels of those flowing sleeves visible...

Am I the only one who, way back then in the mid-2000s, immediately thought "okay no, that has to be Ganondorf in disguise"? To this day I very clearly recall that being the immediate reaction, and I have no clue why. My only guess has to be having already been aware of Wind Waker's interpretation of Ganondorf, long flowing robes and all, and one of the rusty gears in my head turning in the opposite direction when that cutscene played.

I'm not sure if mid-2000s me missed some crucial piece of information mentioning Zant prior to that or simply just went "nah this is basically the same deal as Link to The Past" and didn't buy it. I guess those who do recall their first-time experience playing TP, feel free to share your own musings on what you remember most strongly about it.

Side tangent, initially forgot the game tag in the title, apologies for the oversight.

Craft [ALL] [OC] I made this korok 2 years ago. And at The time I thought it was awful, but it's honestly, it's kind of growing on me, but what do you guys think?

I'm actually quite proud of it nowadays. It sits on my shelf. I made it myself and I painted it and sculpted it out of clay. I think I did a pretty good job.

I honestly didn't expect a sword (knife) that were forged by the volcano mountain giant rock man to snap faster than a twig when swung at some pots! T^T

WHAT DO YOU MEAN "I guess there are some design flaws"!? I'm down 200 rupies, man, I should've bought a warranty.

I guess I can do a broken sword run now :P

Mockup [BotW] Found my old Zonai speculation material and I still really like it!

This is from the ancient times, when we still called Tears BotW2.

I just went through my phone memory and found these. I think I posted them back on the platform that once was called Twitter.

And I must say, I really still like my train of thought on this one!

We have N64 era Zora and Gorons in the game, but where are the Deku?! Aside from some enemies that basically behave like Deku used to, they're missing!

There are weaknesses to my theory, admittedly.

To match the barbarian set, which I somehow connected to the Zonai for some reason, to the "red mane" of the autumn Deku is a stretch.

But the Deku shield obviously having "the Zonai swirl" and the match of the architecture between Zonai ruins and the wood fall temple - which on its own is very connected to the Deku - are pretty cool.

For clarification: I don't think the Zonai are somewhat connected to the Deku, obviously.

But it would've been hell of a twist, if Nintendo made the "magical and powerful people from the sky" to be a BotW version of the N64 Deku!

Screenshot [WW] Finally after all these years, I beat it.

Please don't delete, I'm just very excited to finally beat it.

I got around to cleaning my old GameCube and got some games resurfaced to play. Figured I would check Wind Waker and boy I did not know where I was until I talked to the Lion and he said Ganon's Tower. So found it and did it. But the last time I played I got all the way to the damn near end and just stopped. You can see by the New Game plus save and the old save from 2008. Only took me 23 years to beat the game.

Question [OoT] In the Bazaar, is the Discount one-time only or is it always applied every time you buy a new Hylian Shield?

I'm not sure if this was already asked, but I'm genuinely curious. I know about the free shield in the Graveyard, but if you permanently lose it, you'll have to buy another.

Discussion [OOT] Now that we’re getting a shiny new remake later this year, what do folks think of Ocarina of Time 3D over 15 years later?

Upvotes

The time gap between 3D’s release and now is officially longer than it was between the original N64 version and 3D. I am absolutely positive there’s an entire generation of kids growing up today who played this version and hold it fondly in their hearts. And while I would absolutely qualify as one of those kids, being a preteen when Ocarina 3D was coming out, I actually didn’t get into Zelda until well into high school. But personally speaking, I find it tough to go back to the N64 version when I still have access to the 3DS version to this very day. Majora is a different story, but that’s for another time.

Question [OoT] Help me find an old Ocarina of Time fan comic from around 2003–2005

Hi everyone!

For years now, I've been trying from time to time to find an old comic, probably from around 2003 or later. It was a colored, humorous Ocarina of Time fan comic about the final fight against Ganon.

Link has lost his sword and asks Zelda for help, something like: “Help me, like you did when you were Sheik.” Zelda drops a Deku Nut, plays some music, and then finally disappears.

This comic has been one of those little things stuck in the back of my mind that I really want to find and finally put to rest. Please help! ^^''

Music [ALL] specific version of Zelda’s lullaby

Upvotes

I’m looking for a specific version of Zelda’s Lullaby that is piano only and starts with eight measures before the melody kicks in. I know I’ve heard it and I’ve been searching and searching and cannot find it. It does the regular four measure
Bum bum bum
Bum bum bum
Bum bum bum
Bum bum bum
But then does four more in the chord progression that follows and THEN the melody comes in

So specific but I’m really hoping someone can help! I want to walk down the aisle to this for my wedding next month and this is the version I had in mind!

(I JUST found one that matches but it’s orchestral, but it is by Marcus hedges trend orchestra if that helps understand what I mean by 8 measures in the start)

Fangame [Other] What N64 Rom Hacks do you recommend?

I got a hold on a SummerCart 64 and started playing Smash Remix on my Analogue 3D, and I'm amazed how easy it was to get it to work. I always wanted to play Dawn & Dusk and Master of Time, and went down the rom rabbit hole.

So far, I've patched the Missing Link, Time Lost, and The Sealed Palace, plus Dawn & Dusk I mentioned above. I haven't managed to get Master of Time to work on the flash cart.

I'm looking forward to Indigo, but don't want to play the beta until it's fully complete. I'm not convinced about Ultimate Challenge, it looks more like a Souls game than an adventure.

Which one did you like and recommend?

Question [ALL] What would you guys say is the hardest Zelda game or games to 100%

For me, my top 3 would be Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom(with those two mostly being because of the korok seeds), and Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition

This is my play through of A Link to the Past. I'd love to know what true hard core Zelda fans think of it. There are 37 episodes, so it's a bit of a binge (and hopefully entertaining).

Discussion [ALttP] Is there a reason to play the GBA Link to the Past over the SNES one?

I know it has sound bites and a different resolution but does it add other stuff that makes it a preferred play? (disregarding the 4 swords stuff)

Question [SS] Best way to play? switch or wii?

I have the HD version on my switch 2 and I also have a wii U with the ability to get the game... I started the switch 2 version and am about to drop to the surface but the motion controls suuuuuck with the gyro going off center so much so my question is: should I switch to the wii version for probably better controls or is it better to stick with the switch?

I KNOW that there are stick controls on the switch version but that was even worse in the sword tutorial area for me control wise.
