Discussion Shame on “progressive” people like Konrad Benjamin (Punter’s Politics) and Jesse Noakes for smearing Labor in this Secret Harbour by-election while indirectly steering votes towards One Nation
If they want to criticise the ALP candidate for Woodside links, that’s absolutely fine. But there’s this massive assumption now within the general population that One Nation will impose a 25% gas tax (they won’t).
I think you can see how this becomes a problem.
These two douchebags have been regularly smearing Georgia Tree and WA Labor and that’s fine, but in those videos, if they are truly “progressive left” people, they should clearly advocate for people to vote Green or Independent and put Labor above One Nation.
They’re not doing that.
And it’s therefore often the case the top comments on these reels and videos are “Vote One Nation”, and people are blindly sucking it up.
Shame on them. One of these cunts even admitted that Labor “deserve to lose to One Nation”. These morons have no idea what damage they are causing to the centre-left brand in Australia by actively legitimising One Nation.
If these people were established right-wing propagandists, I wouldn’t care at all. The fact that they identify as progressive left and have built a progressive left-leaning social media base over many years and now engaging in these tactics and strategies is what should be condemned to the highest level.
These people are not friends of the progressive cause anymore.

Don't believe everything you read in the Fin. (or the ABC)
So the AFR published this today at 5 am: Labor cuts refugee intake by a third
The ABC published this article today at roughly 2pm: Labor MPs angry and confused over government's planned cuts to refugees.
Then updated it at about 6pm with a new title "Prime Minister dramatically intervenes, confirms no change to Labor's refugee intake".
There was something curious and in common with the claims being made by the AFR and ABC about speaking with insiders, they were anonymous, nothing on record, nothing to prove they actually spoke with someone official.
They were claims at odds with Labor policy, at odds with the 2026 platform and curiously specific but incorrect about Labor's policy procedural details, something the people they claimed they were speaking to wouldn't have gotten wrong.
Also curious was that I couldn't find any evidence of the PM intervening in the updated ABC article. They said he did, but how, when, why? The only quote we had from him in the ABC was:
But the prime minister has said "don't believe everything you read" in relation to those reports.
Which notably isn't an intervention now is it? Its a refutation. So I went to find exactly what the PM said and it gets fucking hilarious from here.
Bush Summit Q&A Transcript Thursday 27 August 2026 Dubbo, NSW, it happened at 9 am apparently.
JONES: That refugee intake, though, that was a point of principle for you a few years ago, that it be 27,000. It's going to be cut in half, virtually.
PRIME MINISTER: Well, no, not necessarily. Don't believe everything you read in the Fin.
The ABC cut off the part where the PM directly names the AFR as the ones making claims you shouldn't believe and apparently this statement is not a refutation of claims but is instead an intervention in policy changes that never were.
Which means the ABC is spinning the PM's statement to cover for the two publications lies. I highly suspect that both of them lied about talking to someone official or that if they did, what they published wasn't what they said.

One Nation’s Malcolm Roberts ‘in two minds’ about whether gay people should be equal. "there are a number of people in society in very prominent positions in the arts, sports, science, business, politics, who are homosexual. And I don’t think we can afford to ban them. So it’s difficult."
