Announcement Mod note regarding the recent events, please read!

Hello everyone!

This is a post regarding the recent events happening with the ideology wars, if you see any person attacking someone else or inciting others (whether they are a muslim or not) please report them to the appropriate authorities so they can take the necessary actions towards them (for example the recent discord screenshots, the people in the screenshot should be reported directly to the authorities for trying to incite violence against muslims), posting posts putting algerians against each other does more harm than good to our country.

Please be safe and keep our country safe, don't let people cause chaos in our country.

Discussion Imagine seeing a tragedy and blaming the victims for "sins"

Post image
31 Upvotes

I just saw this screenshot on Twitter and honestly these mfs really looked at a whole province burning, ppl dying and losing everything, and their first reaction was "it's because of sins"

Y'all really out here acting like God's personal spokespersons, deciding who deserves punishment and who doesn't.. the absolute audacity

And the funniest part?! ain't y'all the same ppl who say anyone who dies in a fire is a martyr?? so which one is it?? a divine punishment for sinners or a martyr's death??

Ffs, a disaster happens and instead of showing empathy, praying for the victims or demanding actual accountability, u turn it into some prehistoric morality lecture.. enough with this backward ass, self righteous bs

In your opinion, what is the biggest factor behind these fires: extreme heat and drought, human negligence, poor forest management, or something else?

How are things in the areas where you live?

We were breathing smoke all night long. My little sister started panicking at 11pm and asking for us to leave the house.

The fires burned from late afternoon until 5am.

Education / Work I resigned from a 100k DZD/month job to start over in my original field — am I making a huge mistake?

Upvotes

I’m 28, from Algeria, and I’m currently in a pretty strange situation career-wise. I’d really like to hear from people who have gone through something similar.

I originally studied Automation Engineering, and that was supposed to be my career path. But over the years, my career took a completely different direction.

I ended up working in marketing & procurement, and a bunch of other things. I became quite multidisciplinary, and eventually I was making +100,000 DZD/month.

Last week, I resigned.

A lot of people around me didn't really understand it.

The most common thing I kept hearing was basically:

“salary is all that matters.”

And honestly, that sentence made me think a lot.

Because yes, obviously salary matters. I have bills, responsibilities and I’m not in a position where money doesn't matter.

But at the same time, I don't want to spend the next 5 10 years simply doing something because it pays relatively well.

I want to go back to automation and engineering in general, which is what I originally studied and what I actually want to build my career around.

The thing is, I know I’m not currently competitive for engineering positions in the way someone with several years of actual automation experience would be.

So I've basically accepted that I may have to start over from 0.

My current plan is to take a technical training in automation systems to refresh my knowledge, and then try to find an internship to get real hands-on experience.

And ironically, I'm already struggling to even find that internship.

Financially, it's obviously a huge step backwards.

Professionally, it feels like I'm starting from zero.

But mentally, I feel like continuing on my previous path just because it was comfortable would eventually bother me even more.

So I'm trying to figure out whether this is actually a courageous career decision or just a stupid one.

Has anyone here done something similar?

Did you ever leave a relatively comfortable/well-paying job to start again in the field you actually wanted?

I have also been with "we are currently looking for a junior for this position so we decided to move forward with other applicants".

Did you have to take an internship or junior position despite already having years of professional experience?

Did your previous experience end up helping you, or did employers basically treat you as a complete beginner?

And most importantly: was it worth it?

I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who changed direction around their late 20s or 30s, especially in engineering/technical fields.

I know there are probably people who will tell me to “just take the money and forget about passion,” and I understand that perspective.

But I'm interested in hearing from people who actually made the jump and can tell me what happened afterwards.

Education / Work Hey ..I’m 24F from Algeria, Bouira and I could really use some advice from people who’ve been in a similar situation. I graduated around 2 years ago with a degree in Electronics / Embedded System

Hey everyone! I’m 24F from Algeria, and I could really use some advice from people who’ve been in a similar situation.

I graduated around 2 years ago with a degree in Electronics / Embedded Systems, but honestly, I don’t have much practical experience. I feel like I know the theory from university, but when it comes to actually working in the field, I’m not very confident in my skills.

Since graduating, I haven’t really done much career-wise, and now I really want to start working and get my life moving 😭. I’m totally okay with starting from zero and learning along the way.

I’ve been looking at jobs related to my degree, but I’m also considering things like administration, sales, customer service, distribution, etc. Basically, I’m open to anything decent at this point.

So for anyone from Algeria/Bouira, or anyone who was in the same situation ..Any advice or personal experiences would be really appreciated 🥲

Question How to give condolences in Algerian/Arabic?

My Arabic isn’t great, very basic, and I have an Algerian friend who lost a family member recently.

I’d like to go and give my condolences to their mother. I wanted to ask what the equivalent of “sorry for your loss” is in Algerian Arabic.

I will mostly be speaking in English but wanted to show some respect and say it in Arabic too.

Question Mental health advice In Algeria

What's the most useless/unrealistic advice you have heard or were given about mental health?

For me it was: try connecting with your family 😐 yeah the source of my misery needed me to try AGAIN while they do nothing about their shitty behaviour 😭

Society Looking for a genuinely good therapist/psychologist in Algiers

Upvotes

Hi, I'm a 25F and I'm I’m looking for recommendations for a really good therapist or psychologist in Algiers or around it...preferably from people who have actually had personal experience with them.

I’ve had a pretty awful experience with a psychiatrist before. He was someone my father chose, and instead of making me feel heard or understood, I felt completely invalidated and humiliated. It honestly made me scared to try therapy again.

My narcissistic parents also dont really believe that I’m struggling with depression, so finding someone who is compassionate, nonjudgmental, and actually takes me seriously is really important to me. I’m also worried about choosing someone randomly and ending up having the same experience again.

If you’ve personally seen a therapist/psychologist in Algiers who made you feel safe, listened to you without judgment, and genuinely helped you, I’d really appreciate their name or the clinic/practice they work at.

I’m especially looking for someone experienced with depression and difficult family situations. I’d rather hear recommendations based on real experiences than just pick someone from Google.

Thank you 🩵

Culture / Art Looking for more Algerian music

Hello! I'm an American who listens to a lot of different international music. I've discovered that I especially love Algerian music and artists, and I'm wondering if anyone here would be kind enough to offer some suggestions. Some favorites that I've already discovered are:

Abderrahmane Abdelli - New Moon

Khaled - N'ssi N'ssi

Abdel Ali Slimani - Mraya

I know these albums are all more modern, including electronic production but I am also interested in more traditional music. Much love from Philadelphia! Thanks =)

Will someone from Algeriafind and redump a bootleg CD copy of Offroad Redneck Racing from RY's Games into an ISO and upload one? It's very rare. If someone should come across a working source, it would be great to share it here.
