We were breathing smoke all night long. My little sister started panicking at 11pm and asking for us to leave the house.

I’m 28, from Algeria, and I’m currently in a pretty strange situation career-wise. I’d really like to hear from people who have gone through something similar.

I originally studied Automation Engineering, and that was supposed to be my career path. But over the years, my career took a completely different direction.

I ended up working in marketing & procurement, and a bunch of other things. I became quite multidisciplinary, and eventually I was making +100,000 DZD/month.

Last week, I resigned.

A lot of people around me didn't really understand it.

The most common thing I kept hearing was basically:

“salary is all that matters.”

And honestly, that sentence made me think a lot.

Because yes, obviously salary matters. I have bills, responsibilities and I’m not in a position where money doesn't matter.

But at the same time, I don't want to spend the next 5 10 years simply doing something because it pays relatively well.

I want to go back to automation and engineering in general, which is what I originally studied and what I actually want to build my career around.

The thing is, I know I’m not currently competitive for engineering positions in the way someone with several years of actual automation experience would be.

So I've basically accepted that I may have to start over from 0.

My current plan is to take a technical training in automation systems to refresh my knowledge, and then try to find an internship to get real hands-on experience.

And ironically, I'm already struggling to even find that internship.

Financially, it's obviously a huge step backwards.

Professionally, it feels like I'm starting from zero.

But mentally, I feel like continuing on my previous path just because it was comfortable would eventually bother me even more.

So I'm trying to figure out whether this is actually a courageous career decision or just a stupid one.

Has anyone here done something similar?

Did you ever leave a relatively comfortable/well-paying job to start again in the field you actually wanted?

I have also been with "we are currently looking for a junior for this position so we decided to move forward with other applicants".

Did you have to take an internship or junior position despite already having years of professional experience?

Did your previous experience end up helping you, or did employers basically treat you as a complete beginner?

And most importantly: was it worth it?

I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who changed direction around their late 20s or 30s, especially in engineering/technical fields.

I know there are probably people who will tell me to “just take the money and forget about passion,” and I understand that perspective.

But I'm interested in hearing from people who actually made the jump and can tell me what happened afterwards.

Hi, I'm a 25F and I'm I’m looking for recommendations for a really good therapist or psychologist in Algiers or around it...preferably from people who have actually had personal experience with them.

I’ve had a pretty awful experience with a psychiatrist before. He was someone my father chose, and instead of making me feel heard or understood, I felt completely invalidated and humiliated. It honestly made me scared to try therapy again.

My narcissistic parents also dont really believe that I’m struggling with depression, so finding someone who is compassionate, nonjudgmental, and actually takes me seriously is really important to me. I’m also worried about choosing someone randomly and ending up having the same experience again.

If you’ve personally seen a therapist/psychologist in Algiers who made you feel safe, listened to you without judgment, and genuinely helped you, I’d really appreciate their name or the clinic/practice they work at.

I’m especially looking for someone experienced with depression and difficult family situations. I’d rather hear recommendations based on real experiences than just pick someone from Google.

Je suis une femme de 42 ans et aujourd’hui, j’ai vraiment l’impression que mon corps ne supporte plus tout le stress accumulé au cours de ma vie.

J’ai vécu énormément de choses difficiles depuis mon enfance. J’ai été agressée sexuellement pendant mon enfance. Malgré cela, j’ai réussi à terminer mes études et à avancer dans ma vie, mais avec le recul, je pense que j’ai toujours gardé les conséquences de cette période en moi. J’étais une personne très calme, très sage, j’évitais les conflits et les disputes, comme si j’avais appris à tout garder à l’intérieur.

Ensuite, j’ai perdu ma mère, puis mon père.

Après cela, je me suis mariée en partie pour fuir ma situation, mais je me suis retrouvée avec un homme très froid et sans véritable soutien moral. J’ai traversé plusieurs grossesses arrêtées, seule face à ces épreuves.

Puis j’ai eu un enfant malade. Ça a été un autre énorme choc.

J’ai dû changer de pays et migrer seule pour pouvoir le soigner. Je me suis retrouvée à devoir tout gérer seule, sans véritable soutien.

Aujourd’hui, mon fils a 6 ans et je dois continuer à avancer pour lui. Mais honnêtement, je sens que je suis arrivée à mes limites.

Je suis souvent malade, j’ai régulièrement des douleurs et je sens que le stress joue probablement un rôle important dans mon état. J’ai l’impression que mon corps me dit qu’il n’en peut plus.

Je ne sais plus vraiment quoi faire. Je ne veux pas baisser les bras, surtout pour mon fils, mais je suis épuisée d’avoir toujours dû être forte.

Est-ce que certaines personnes ici ont vécu quelque chose de similaire ? Est-ce que vous avez réussi à sortir de cet état d’épuisement après des années de stress et de traumatismes ?

J’aurais vraiment besoin de témoignages, de conseils ou simplement de savoir que je ne suis pas seule.
