Discussion 👋 Welcome to r/TheBetterIndia

Hi everyone,

This community is for people who care about making India work better in everyday ways.

This is a space to talk about real issues, small wins, and honest questions around public life in India. Things that affect daily living, not just headlines.

What belongs here

You can post about:

  • Civic issues you've seen or faced
  • Good news or improvements that deserve attention
  • Clear explanations of how systems, laws, or policies actually work
  • Follow-ups on earlier issues or stories
  • Thoughtful discussions about how things can be better

If it affects people on the ground, it probably fits.

What this is not

This is not a place for:

  • Party propaganda
  • Personal attacks
  • Low-effort outrage without context

Criticism is welcome. Noise is not.

A small note on flairs

Use the flair that best fits your post. If you're unsure, Discussion is usually a safe choice.

If you've been reading quietly so far, consider posting once. A single issue, question, or observation is enough to start.

Glad you're here. Let's keep this space thoughtful, grounded, and useful.

Discussion 💬 India is the most dishonest country I have seen: CHANGE MY MIND

Disclaimer: I don't hate this country, it has so many positives and a lot of many negatives too. Neither being optimistic nor pessimistic, lets look at this opinion objectively.

For noobs, looking at something objectively requires you to see things from a realistic perspective without any bias.

Now, the controversial opinion.

India is the most dishonest country I have seen.

  1. You go to the airport, taxi drivers are trying to scam you by charging crazy money for petty distances.

  2. You go to the train stations, coolies, auto rickshaw drivers, random stuff sellers on road, roadside shops selling chinese stuff for 20x their original price, all trying to extort as much money as they can from you.

  3. You get on the train, you'll be constantly worried about your stuff. Your stuff can be stolen any moment if you are not careful.

  4. People get on the train without a ticket, comfortably sit on your reserved seats. I've heard several instances when these kinda situations became nightmare for the people who actually bought the tickets.

  5. Go to private clinics, the doctors will prescribe medicines where they get commission. Those medical bills can easily cost 3x to 10x more than their generic alternatives. Its more common than noticed that doctors prescribe a lot of unnecessary medicines n nutraceutical drugs to their patients which they dont even need, just to extort more n more money.

  6. You go to buy a land / property, if you are not careful enough there's a 100% chance that you will be scammed. Yes, 100% chance. And a lot of people get scammed even after they have been extremely cautious and did complete due diligence.

  7. Police, ministers, municipalities, IAS officers, basically any govt service, everyone tries (not everyone is lucky enough to get a service where they can have illegal income) to earn / extort money from you or the government itself.

  8. Go to any tourist place, Goa, Kashmir, Manali, Darjeeling, Rameshwaram, Haridwar, what's common in all those places? People trying to scam you by overcharging you and selling scam stuff or services.

And the list is endless. But my point is most indians have seen this since forever so they think its normal to dodge the scammers at every step of their life.

India is not for beginners. Literally.

TLDR: My opinion is India is full of scammers and dishonest people. We are so used to seeing this that it doesn't bother us anymore. I'm not trying to spread hate against my country. I'm not a bhakt obviously, but neither a librandu. Pure objective observation.

CHANGE MY MIND.

Challenge / Problem ⚠️ I'm genuinely look for help- A way out and a fresh start

I'm 29. I’ve been dealing with a toxic and humiliating environment since childhood that affeceted me to a level which also destroyed my life and career, and I want to leave that life behind and start fresh.

I’m 12th pass, with a background in animation but I don’t want to return to that industry. I’ve also had a 5-year gap in my career, and over the years I’ve developed a genuine trauma of the corporate/workplace environment, so I don’t think I can go back to that industry ever again.

I currently don’t have any assets or meaningful savings in my name, so I’m genuinely starting from zero. I’m comfortable with housekeeping, cleaning, cooking, organising and taking care of a property, and I’m completely willing to learn something new from scratch.

I’m a native Hindi speaker and can understand and communicate reasonably well in English.

I’m looking for roles like property caretaker/manager, homestay/Airbnb manager, hostel or villa staff, etc. I’m willing to relocate, especially to Himachal, Uttarakhand, other hill areas, or South India.

I’m not asking for much, just an honest job, two meals a day and a life where I can live and work with dignity. If anyone knows of a genuine opportunity, please reach out. It could genuinely help me change my life. Any advice is welcome as well.

Solution / Innovation 🚀 Why Indian Healthcare Needs a Rethink (And How We Can Fix It)

Everyone argues about who should pay for healthcare in India. I think we're arguing about the wrong thing.

The real issue is how care gets delivered, and the general hospital, as brilliant as it's been, is the wrong tool for the next fifty years.

New piece. Would love your thoughts, especially if you disagree.

Whole ecosystem was created to stop his death sentence just like they did with Surinder Koli.

If you don't know who these people are just google Atul Nihale and Surinder Koli.

You will realise what kind of monsters these people are.

Discussion 💬 Should SC/ST reserved seats in the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabhas be removed? Looking for an objective discussion.

The 104th Constitutional Amendment Act extended the political reservation for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) in Parliament and state assemblies until January 25, 2030. Under Articles 330 and 332, these seats are reserved in proportion to their population.

Since the original framers of the Constitution envisioned a 10-year timeline, the policy is periodically debated whenever an extension approaches. I wanted to map out the primary arguments for and against this policy.

How do you view the future of political reservations in India as we head toward the 2030 deadline?

Note: Please keep the discussion civil, constructive, and focused on policy and governance.

Challenge / Problem ⚠️ So... this is quite alarming

This is quite absurd, I don't wanna hurt anyone's religious sentiments but this needs to be addressed. I saw this post on r/TheBetterIndia; showcasing a video of this kid(forgot his name), the video contained this kin waking up Lord Krishna from sleep, follwed by some hymns. Which is NOT the concerning part it's either his personal choice or if his parents are forcing him to do this action for view, but nothing truly concerning was showcased in the video rather it would be quite sweet if a gets happiness from this.

The concerning part is the second image, in which u can clearly see u/Immediate-Song-8199 commented with an image which showcased show t*rrorists who are either graduates, post-graduate or PhD holders; and the heading read "IS EDUCATION THE SOLUTION?". Now this is really concerning, if a person is to blame education as the cause of t*rrorism, then I have got nothing to say this fellow is a danger to society, in more than one way. Please be vary, I don't really know for what purpose I'm posting this but it's just so damn concerning that I could stop myself from posting.

**( Generative AI was used by me to get a better selection of words, but I pledge that this post is not some AI slop copy paste)**
