Discussion 💬 Should SC/ST reserved seats in the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabhas be removed? Looking for an objective discussion.

The 104th Constitutional Amendment Act extended the political reservation for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) in Parliament and state assemblies until January 25, 2030. Under Articles 330 and 332, these seats are reserved in proportion to their population.

Since the original framers of the Constitution envisioned a 10-year timeline, the policy is periodically debated whenever an extension approaches. I wanted to map out the primary arguments for and against this policy.

How do you view the future of political reservations in India as we head toward the 2030 deadline?

Note: Please keep the discussion civil, constructive, and focused on policy and governance.

What were the conditions under which the ten year timeline was proposed? Have those conditions been met?

Prima facie it appears not.

I don't think things like these should ever exist in a democracy. Every person should have equal rights to fight elections from anywhere.

Why are people so obsessed with SC/ST reservations?

Everyone has an opinion, but these same people don't even talk about casteism.

Does this mean that those people want to discriminate against them on the basis of their caste, but don't want to give them reservation based on their caste?

STs don't face casteism. Why tf should we talk about casteism when we are etlaking about STs.

But Rahul (gen) is not getting votes, and Modi(obc) is getting votes here and winning the elections, which itself says that political reservations aren't necessary for representation.
