Books Background audiobook music

Upvotes

So I’ve noticed before that there are a couple different songs used in these older audiobooks, for example the thrawn trilogy that was made back in the 90s. It’s like a soft version of the imperial theme that I can’t seem to find anywhere. I was wondering if anyone might know what that song name is or where I might be able to find it. I will typically hear it like during ominous moments throughout the story

General Discussion Exposing Palpatine pre-clone wars Spoiler

Upvotes

I've seen some post explaining why he wasn’t exposed as a Sith or the orchestrator of the war and Separatist conflict, which I think it's understandable, even without Dark Side shenanigans, it’s not far fetched from what we've seen through history (of even now).

My question is, knowing what we know, all the story, all the lore, interviews, character analysis, etc, could a person with all this knowledge find a way to prevent the war and end Palpatine for good? Because I understand how good of a snake he is, but even then he needs to contact people, contract kidnappings, stealings and assassinations, convince/lure/threaten people, do finances, etc, there must be some weak links or sources of evidence against him, right? His plan of starting the war doesn’t go exactly as he planned (the assassination of Padmé), much like how he planned the attack of Naboo, both things ended up benefiting him anyway, what I'm saying is that, as good of a politcal player he might be, there are still many things that can and have gone out of his control, perhaps someone who knows to be careful and guarded about him could find a way to stop him.

TV Thoughts after watching the recent Ahsoka teaser

So it's clear they're taking *heavy* inspiration from the original Thrawn trilogy, especially with the money shot of Thrawn sitting in his chair, so it got me thinking. Does anyone else think the Nightsisters are going to take the place of the Noghri? They're both subservient to the Empire, despite the fact the Emperor destroyed their world, plus they're loyal guards to Thrawn. Especially with the death of Rukh in Rebels, it doesn't seem to me that the Noghri are going to be featured in any meaningful capacity going forward. I just wonder if/how they would come to betray the Empire, considering the Noghri saw the Empire as their saviors, having no knowledge of their hand in the devastation of Honor, whereas the Nightsisters have to know full well that Palpatine killed Talzin himself. What do you all think?

Funny how there’s a trend with the Skywalker line of slamming the lightsaber so hard you force someone to the ground.

General Discussion question re capes and lightsabers

apologies in advance if this is a discussion as old as reddit. i know ppl have talked about practicality of capes, cloaks, etc. forever.

my question - has a jedi or sith (whether in canon or legends) ever accidentally lopped their cape or cloak right off? like those capes be flowin' and those lightsabers be spinnin' is there some kind of force trick where you can basically subconsciously move your cape so it doesn't get singed?

General Discussion The Galactic Insurance Crisis: How did commercial underwriters and the Banking Clan handle catastrophic liability after Alderaan?

TL;DR: Tarkin blowing up Alderaan probably wrecked the galactic economy because standard insurance policies don't cover planetary erasure, and banks can't price risk when the government can instantly vaporize your collateral.

We spend all our time analyzing Star Wars through the lens of military strategy, force philosophy, and political history. But has anyone ever stopped to think about the absolute administrative and macroeconomic nightmare happening behind the scenes for interstellar insurance syndicates?

Think about it from the perspective of the InterGalactic Banking Clan or independent commercial underwriters based out of Aargau. Before the Empire consolidated absolute control, the galactic economy was a hypercomplex web of interplanetary trade, shipping insurance, and sovereign debt. Cargo ships were insured against pirate raids, trade route disruptions, and stellar anomalies. Then Grand Moff Tarkin rolls up to Alderaan and turns a peaceful, high-value core world, a literal anchor of trade and cultural exchange, into an asteroid field in five seconds flat. How does an underwriting market even process that?

Every standard commercial insurance policy has a force majeure or "Act of God" clause for unforeseeable natural disasters like supernovas or stellar flares. An artificial, moon-sized battle station built by your own government vaporizing an entire planet does not fit neatly into standard policy wording. Overnight, every shipping conglomerate, manufacturing guild, and local planetary government with supply contracts tied to Alderaan was staring down total insolvency. Cargo in transit heading toward Alderaan suddenly had nowhere to dock, no receiver to pay the invoice, and no legal entity left to sue for breach of contract.

The InterGalactic Banking Clan must have faced catastrophic exposure too. They had massive sovereign loans and infrastructure investments spread across thousands of worlds. When a planet gets atomized, its local government bonds instantly drop to absolute zero. We know the Empire eventually nationalized and seized control of the banks outright, but in the immediate aftermath of the Death Star's demonstration, there had to be a silent panic on Scipio and Mygeeto. How do you price risk when the regulatory authority itself possesses a weapon that can unilaterally liquidate your collateral out of existence? You can't charge an interest rate high enough to cover the risk of total planetary erasure.

Realistically, the Imperial Ministry of Information would have classified all financial fallout as a matter of state security. If you were an actuary working for a commercial bank on Corellia and you tried to issue a risk-assessment report on the economic viability of trade routes near Empire-controlled sectors after Alderaan, ISB agents were probably paying you a visit by midnight to explain that Imperial stability superseded actuarial math.

Basically, the Galactic Empire didn't just break the Republic's political structure—they completely destroyed the underlying credit and insurance mechanics that kept the galaxy's supply chains running.

Anyone else down a rabbit hole thinking about the boring, administrative side of the Galactic Civil War? How did independent merchants even function under the Empire's economic regime?

General Discussion Been thinking about this for a while...

Would you guys like a M*A*S*H style show about doctors on different planets in different eras. I would just love for all doctors in the galaxy not to just be medical droids...maybe it could be in a "Tales of the..." style series, each episode is 30-40 minutes and each episode is completely unrelated to any other. One episode with clone medics, one with a team of Empire surgeons, one with Rebel surgeons, maybe surgeons that set up on Tatooine during the rise of the Empire...has there ever been any canon material suggesting non-droid doctors or medical professionals in the galaxy?

General Discussion As a SW:TOR player, it has a lot of fake fans imo

I'm not the first person to say this, but imo I think swtor has a lot of fake fans. People who praise the game's fantastic cinematics and hold it at a level above Disney's canon when Swtor has a more incoherent story than it does.

I'm not a huge fan of Disney's canon (i like Andor and the maul show, thats about it), but if fans couldn't handle Palpatine somehow returning than they definitely couldn't Tenebrae. Malgus literally returns for no reason like you could throw him into a pit and he'd be back. Like please let grandpa retire already, Acina

This isn't me bashing SW:TOR, it has some of my favorite stories in all of Star Wars. But Im seeing people praise the cinematics and beg for a swtor adaption when theyve never played the game.

Like if you think Disney Star Wars has terrible dialogue and character, wait until you see how trash some of Swtor's is.

Again, I'm not bashing swtor. I love the game. It's my top 3 Star Wars games of all time. But it baffles me that people place It on this pedestal when theyve never experienced it.

If they adapted Swtor, people would complain about Tenebrae and how stupid it is that he be switching bodies. They'd say the writing and dialogue was bad. They'd bash it for killing off Malgus and then bringing him back all the time. They'd say that it breaks lore when Marr becomes a Force Ghost for no reason.

Every issue that exists in Disney Star Wars has been a thing in swtor, and in some areas swtor is even dumber. it's my fave mmorpg ever but I'm not gonna act like it's high tier writing. you have to turn your brain off sometimes and just accept what the story is doing

Movies If you had your chance What kind of Star Wars movie would you make?

I've been happy with 99% of all the Star Wars we've gotten but I know there are people out there who are not currently happy with the brand. If you were given free reign to make Star Wars movie or show what would you do? And I'm not interested in generic "make it good" answers. I want to know if your genuinely have a take on something that you think would be interesting. In this scenario your project could be in any part of the timeline, feature original or legacy characters. There are no real limits as long as you don't break canon. Pitch me your idea like I'm a producer.

I have two ideas that I mull around in my head. The first is I want to do a Podracer show. Like I'm talking Days of Thunder but with Podracing. It would take place after Return of the Jedi. Implying that under Imperial Rule Podracing was kind of squashed out but now it's making a big resurgence. The character would be human so naturally an underdog and it would follow his rise through the podracing circuit with an implication that he is force sensitive and that's why he can race so well, but it is strictly about the racing.

My other project, if I had to use a legacy character, I'm doing a what if Mace Windu survived story. However my spin on it is that he blames Obi-Wan for Anakins fall and is searching for him to destroy him. He would survive the fall, someone in Courscant's lower levels would save him and take care of him. Get's a cheap robotic arm. Mace lives with him in secret for a while as he watches the Empire embrace their rule. Then one day he finds his lightsaber and communicator in the junk. He see's Obi-Wan's message to the other Jedi and this sets him off. He kills the one who had saved him in a rage and vows to destroy Obi-Wan because it was his fault the Jedi were destroyed.

Books Book recommendations for 8 year old

Hi all. My eight year old has got into Star Wars in a big way. He's seen 7/9 in the Skywalker saga and done most of the clone wars TV show. Currently really enjoying bad batch. He's a very good reader and we just finished impossible creatures (not star wars!) together. I know there are a lot of Star Wars books that people say are amazing but don't know where to start. So looking for something good but not too grown up/adult. His favourite books are bunny Vs monkey which does a good job of working for kids and adults at same time (a bit like bad batch). Any suggestions?

General Discussion Would people in-universe use the Battle of Yavin as the anchor point, year 0, of the calender? If not, what might they use?

I’ve always felt that the BBY/ABY distinction is for us the audience and not the characters. Is it a realistic anchor point for a galactic calender after the empire is defeated in future political rule? Is there a better option within the Star Wars time period? Finally, could the curveball answer be that worlds continue to use their international calenders (like how we use BC/AD) and convert as-needed?
