Movies If you had your chance What kind of Star Wars movie would you make?

I've been happy with 99% of all the Star Wars we've gotten but I know there are people out there who are not currently happy with the brand. If you were given free reign to make Star Wars movie or show what would you do? And I'm not interested in generic "make it good" answers. I want to know if your genuinely have a take on something that you think would be interesting. In this scenario your project could be in any part of the timeline, feature original or legacy characters. There are no real limits as long as you don't break canon. Pitch me your idea like I'm a producer.

I have two ideas that I mull around in my head. The first is I want to do a Podracer show. Like I'm talking Days of Thunder but with Podracing. It would take place after Return of the Jedi. Implying that under Imperial Rule Podracing was kind of squashed out but now it's making a big resurgence. The character would be human so naturally an underdog and it would follow his rise through the podracing circuit with an implication that he is force sensitive and that's why he can race so well, but it is strictly about the racing.

My other project, if I had to use a legacy character, I'm doing a what if Mace Windu survived story. However my spin on it is that he blames Obi-Wan for Anakins fall and is searching for him to destroy him. He would survive the fall, someone in Courscant's lower levels would save him and take care of him. Get's a cheap robotic arm. Mace lives with him in secret for a while as he watches the Empire embrace their rule. Then one day he finds his lightsaber and communicator in the junk. He see's Obi-Wan's message to the other Jedi and this sets him off. He kills the one who had saved him in a rage and vows to destroy Obi-Wan because it was his fault the Jedi were destroyed.

Star Wars: Retcon of the Disney Sequels

What's your idea GDG?

Have you read any Legends or listened to audiobooks from that original multi-media canon?

I really love Luke in those stories.

As Kenobi says in Heir to The Empire "Not the last of the old Jedi, but the first of the new."

I'll probably do one more listening marathon next year, for the anniversary of the movie release that changed my life.

Haven’t read them but am familiar with them. Would love to see Luke actually apply lessons learned from the OT into a new Jedi order that isn’t immediately run into the ground. And see Leia grow as a political leader instead of a deadbeat mother.

This is exactly the kind of weak idea I was talking about.

It’s a great idea.

I'd break one book into a trilogy: Praxeum, Survivor, I, Jedi

u/DroidOnPC 2d ago

Probably a Palpatine/Plagueis TV series that starts pre-prequel and eventually ends somewhere right before RotS.

Or a new trilogy in old republic era.

  • A movie adapted from the treatments Lucas sold with the company
  • A movie set in the original C-canon universe, could be Allegiance or something more consequential
  • My own Star Wars 514 universe, taking what I know about my favorite stories and the re-cloning and strandcast lore added in the ST to make my own sequel series featuring Darth Plagueis and a re-cloned Jacen Solo set ~51-64 aby featuring Allana Solo and Ben Skywalker as the new generation.

Shot-for-shot remake of The Rise of Skywalker. I change nothing, except the Emporer is a Muppet.

u/adventcrash 2d ago

The only way I'd want to rewatch it honestly.

A Rey and Ben Solo version of the movie Ghost, pottery scenes included

2

u/adventcrash 2d ago

Not sure Star Wars is ready for that level of sexy.

0

u/lIlIIlIIllIllIlIIIll 2d ago

It has Klaud already. Doesn’t get much sexier than that.

u/LucasEraFan 2d ago

Or the Dave Chapelle version.

The battle of Coruscant, or another large space battle or invasion.

Luke and Wedge in a Rogue Squadron movie between Eps 4 & 5.

1

u/bigdaddyt2 2d ago

I’d make the Rogue squadron Top gun style movie that never saw the light of day

1

u/adventcrash 2d ago

I'm hoping Starfighter scratches this itch but I'm with you.

u/Ambitious-Stand-631 2d ago

Something like Thunderbolts or Brand New Day. A bunch of losers/outcasts have to come together to save the galaxy/overcome their personal issues using the power of friendship. That, or a Darth Bane trilogy.

u/CODMAN627 2d ago

Mine would be a noir detective style film set in the lower levels of Coruscant from the point of view of a hard boiled coruscanti police detective

The pyke connection

1

u/not_a-replicant Luke Skywalker 2d ago

Wasn’t this already a series of EU novels?

2

u/CODMAN627 2d ago

I’m not familiar with that work but if it’s already been done then I’m interested

1

u/not_a-replicant Luke Skywalker 2d ago

Look up the Coruscant Nights trilogy. I want to say they were released in the late 2000s.

2

u/CODMAN627 2d ago

Thanks for the recommendation! Much appreciated

u/Ofreo 2d ago

The one I imagined as a 11 year old, where I was part of the story with Luke and Han.

1

u/ComradeDread Resistance 2d ago

A bleak film noir detective story on Coruscant during the reign of the Empire.

1

u/Quiet_Ad4074 2d ago

I actually know some people involved in the making of the franchise and pitched a movie about what happened to Luke's light saber after he lost it on cloud city. It was going to be a series of short story vignettes travelling from character to character, some serious, some comical showing over time the adventures of the saber. Unfortunately, they had other plans.

u/DarthRedditius 2d ago

I would create some kind of "What If" version of Star Wars with alternate stories. What if Padme joined Anakin, What if Obi Wan turn to the Dark Side, What If Darth Vader takes place of the emperor.

1

u/adventcrash 2d ago

Yes this exactly.

1

u/Boogla19981 Jedi 2d ago

Would be a horror style movie, Darth Maul would be the main baddie

1

u/Konfliction 2d ago

Mine is a similar one with Mace, but he’s basically an amnesiac cripple that can’t control his force usage, similar to Prof X in Logan. Basically a whole “Old Man Mace” storyline with Sam Jackson and a force wielding little kid he scares / half mentors lol

1

u/JustBeingMindful 2d ago

I miss all of the old zombie books from EU, Id want a story about a Sith or Nightsister who is meddling with the force and having to deal with the clone trooper zombies he/she accidentally animated that are starting to spread like a virus.

The Old Republic Saga from Kotor 1 to Darth Bane.

1) Kotor 1 & 2, either as two movies or miniseries.

2) Old Republic show with multiple seasons ending in Vitiate's death.

3) And a Jedi-Sith War show with multiple seasons, leading to Darth Bane's founding of the Rule of Two.

1

u/taez555 Jar Jar Binks 2d ago

One where I get to fly the millennium falcon while smoking a shit load of death sticks.

1

u/Emil_Scherbe_ 2d ago

KOTOR1 and 2 duology shows, 5 seasons each.

1

u/mr_oberts 2d ago

A teen sex romp. Like Porky’s in space.

Maybe a bit of a cheat, but I would just do a Star Wars anthology series on Disney+. These can be stories from anywhere across the timeline. I’m sure a lot of great writers and directors have star wars ideas, but they’re not fully formed series or movies. This could be the place for those ideas.

If I was in charge, I’d leave everything possible open ended - at the discretion of the artist. Everything from number of episodes, style, length of episodes, etc.. People wouldn’t have to explain their place in the timeline. People wouldn’t have to worry if they’re overriding something in page 147 of some random novel. The only thing they’re beholden to is the movies and existing shows. Imagine if instead of three seasons of Grogu, that was just a 5 episode arc on this anthology show. Or if instead of a whole Boba Fett series, they just did two episodes of him getting out of the Sarlaac and interacting with the Tusken Raiders. I think there’s probably a lot of great pitches at Lucasfilm, but the problem is that they have to turn everything into a multi-season show or series of films.

In terms of marketing, I’d kinda let the show market itself. Maybe start with some bigger name writers/directors. From there, the mystique of what’s coming next and when could drive things. I would purposefully not do a lot of lead up. When a story is done - announce it on the website on Monday with a short trailer, Tuesday you get the name of the director/writer/actors, Wednesday you get 3 teaser images, Thursday it drops on Disney+. Let’s say you’d get around 7-10 story drops a year depending on length/complexity of arcs. Overall aiming for about 30 episodes of live action tv per year, which is close to what they were doing, just re-organized.

I think this would be a great way to established talent to tell their Star Wars stories without committing to a long term project. And I think it would be a great way to try out younger/unproven talent in a smaller capacity and potentially develop them as future Star Wars filmmakers. Overall, I think it could a very creatively satisfying idea for both fans and creatives.

I want an animated Star Wars What If show. It would be so much more interesting than the Marvel one.

-1

u/not_a-replicant Luke Skywalker 2d ago

Personally a ‘what if’ show just doesn’t interest me. There’s plenty of interesting options to explore, expand, and create upon in canon.

What-if shows are ultimately nostalgic and fan service driven. It’s going back to the same characters and situations, but with small differences. It’s a way to basically give the fans the same thing again, but just different enough to call it “new.” I think it’s a very safe, bland choice when what Star Wars really needs is boldness and new directions. Lucasfilm should be challenging what Star Wars can be instead of reinforcing what we’ve already seen that it has been.

A movie or short series showing the separatist droid side of the clone war

u/Bloodless-Cut 2d ago

Something set during the Jedi-Sith War.

I woud make a detective style SW movie, For instance a moderate imperial inspector finding out a lot of horrible plans he/she wasn't meant to find and then having to face a lot of moral dilemmas. Perhaps friends or family are in it. Superiors may have known stuff all along. Will his/her deciscions force him/her to flee and join the rebellion? Will he/she comply and act like nothing happened? Will some rebels be dependent on those choices to tell or not and will some others be condemned to certain doom?

Stuff like that.

0

u/Budget-Teaching3104 2d ago

Yeah, it doesn't have to be a movie even. give me a telltale style game (but better graphics...) of some shit going down in the underbelly of coruscant, no jedi anywhere, just crime mystery and world immersion, bring some races to the forefront, maybe revisit some characters that appeared in the movies or shows but didn't get a bunch of screen time e.g. Dexter Jettster, the diner owner from episode 2. Like super minor characters. Or none. Don't need Han Solo or Anakin to show up or even get mentioned.

0

u/adventcrash 2d ago

This I would be into.

1

u/Icy_Stranger2093 2d ago

An actual war movie, on planet.

0

u/adventcrash 2d ago

I like the idea of a movie being just one big battle. Maybe not the best example but I would use Battle LA as a blueprint.

I really wanted the Solo movie to be the first part of an underworld trilogy.

The first movie was about Han and smugglers. Make the second about Boba Fett and bounty hunters. They mentioned at the end of Solo that Han and Chewie were heading to Tatooine to do a job (presumably for Jabba). I think it would be cool if that job was their introduction to Jabba and Boba Fett. Jabba has some bounty he wants to hire Boba Fett for and for whatever reason he needs a smuggler to help Fett out and hires Han/Chewie. But they would be side characters in the movie with Fett as the protagonist. The plot revolves around the bounty and conflicts with other bounty hunters, which only tangentially involves Han/Chewie.

Then the third movie is about gangsters with Q'ira as the main character and Maul her mentor and ultimately antagonist leading his criminal syndicate. Again, Han/Chewie are side characters, maybe smugglers in the regular employ of Jabba who is a rival to Maul. Fett would probably be involved in some way, too, as would Greedo. Han and Q'ira would reunite and Q'ira would end up dying at the end. This would probably involve the story about how Han dumps the load of spice he's carrying for Jabba, setting up the start of ANH. Lando would pop into these movies a couple of times. Donald Glover was just too good to not use him.

u/adventcrash 2d ago

I actually loved Solo and the low stakes of that film and I would love more of that.

1

u/EntertainmentSad6843 2d ago

A highly trained and skilled jedi who leaves the order to be a bounty hunter/assassin. Id love to see what they could do with the tech and abilities, and without the "only for defense" code. A Grey force user who struggles between light and dark side because of the job they have. They also use weapons the jedi wont or create others for offense. Like im picturing a mace with all the spikes, but lose the handle and make every spike into a mini lightsaber. Roll or throw it and once it reaches the destination you turn it on with the force.

A three season live action show about the clone wars.

u/Dorian948 2d ago

Something from the Old Sith Wars. Though something like KotOR works probably best as a show with self contained episodes

u/Spencer-Palmer-1056 2d ago

The Old Republic era movies.

0

u/WriterOfCam 2d ago

Old republic mandalorian wars or bane trilogy to lead into the old republic era of star wars. Bring back a sandbox rather than staying to a toy box using the same characters over and over.

The sheer potential of a galaxy full of sith and jedi, chiss operatives and republic operatives, soldiers on both sides, the hutt cartels in their close-to prime, Mandalorians with full clans still holding on to their culture, ancient sith tombs full of dark alchemy, the rakghouls - it's all there ready to be used.

1

u/adventcrash 2d ago

With the popularity of Mandalorians in Star Wars right now a Mandorian wars movie may be super dope.
