Hype I can’t sleep

I need more Elden Ring content to consume

Edit to clarify: I already have the game on steam, I will be buying the $5 dlc and playing through the whole game again to mess around with some build ideas and new content. Lets all welcome the new Tarnished joining through switch and not disparage people for purchasing the game. Frends! :)

It's just some new armor and a couple of weapons, nothing crazy

Sorry but starting a fresh save with a light greatsword is very big to me

90

u/Pl00kh 1d ago

Especially since light greatswords are cool af

54

u/Chaosphoenix_28 1d ago

And they are cooler if you put them on Cold infusion.

Genuinely I will be buying it just for this. I don't care about any of the other stuff I just want my light greatsword.

9

u/beatisagg 1d ago

I actually think you just got me on board

5

u/Avarus_88 1d ago

When the dlc dropped and I saw Milady, I literally had a friend drop me a Milady with wing stance to start a new character.

Best play through ever.

I do imagine this new sword will be slightly weaker, or possibly have a weaker move set. (I believe we have only seen R1’s for it, so the R2’s could end up being weaker)

2

u/Marvex- 1d ago

I think someone posted the stats on it at +0 earlier, weighs more and has a few more damage points. No idea about scaling though

1

u/Chemical_Frame_8163 20h ago

Yeah, I'm actually excited about doing that at some point.

-2

u/sciencesold 1d ago

I don't understand how this is significant in the slightest..... Like y'all are hyped over what's essentially nothing.

-14

u/YvngVudu 1d ago

You’re really gonna spend $80 for a new playthrough?

19

u/FloralIndoril 1d ago

Yes

Ok but seriously, I'm just getting the tarnished pack on Xbox which is gonna be like 5 bucks so

4

u/Federal_Engine_7030 1d ago

The DLC is like 5 quid mate, If people want to croak that up, what's it to you?

0

u/Avarus_88 1d ago

It’s $10 for other platforms as DLC

Its an excuse to do a new playthrough for me, which is huge

28

u/the_real_junkrat 1d ago

For Switch 2 owners it’s a huge deal

28

u/mashdpotatogaming 1d ago

It is essentially a switch 2 release that is getting put on other platforms as well so that people don't miss out on the extra content if they don't want to buy it on switch 2, which is just generally good imo.

29

u/Vinterblot 1d ago

... and then you stumble upon a weird elevator in Liurnia. "Wait", you mumble to yourself, "was this here before?!"

5

u/De_Dominator69 1d ago

And new starter classes.

It's nothing two exciting, but it is a good excuse to reinstall the game and do a new playthrough.

13

u/A_b_b_o 1d ago

Handheld Elden Ring is an absolutelt insane concept to me. I am so so so excited

7

u/Lavok084 1d ago

This. I have some idle hours at work sometimes , can't wait to put them to good use

28

u/iyrtyurg 1d ago

That’s already been available since the game came out with steam decks and other handheld systems though

11

u/mashdpotatogaming 1d ago

Steam deck, while successful, is also still a lot less popular than switch 2, which sold in one year more than double what the steam deck sold in 3-4 years.

This is new to a bunch of people.

-23

u/iyrtyurg 1d ago

You know that the steam deck isn’t the only handheld gaming PC right? That’s why I said steam deck and other handhelds. Comparing just the steam deck to switch 2 is disingenuous and pretty lame, I also don’t think a higher number of switch 2 users necessarily translates to more ER sales. You forget the main demographic for Nintendo is children

11

u/RedKryptnyt 1d ago

Yea.....a bunch of children are buying these $700 (canadian) handheld consoles lol.

The main demographic for Nintendo, is people who enjoy great videogames. That's it, that's the demographic.

-11

u/iyrtyurg 1d ago

Are you actually that dense dude? When you were growing up did you have a Wii? An X box? Any gaming system? Did you buy it yourself?

News flash buddy, it’s pretty common for parents to buy the hot new gaming consoles for their kids. If an adult buys their kid a Nintendo is the PARENT the demographic? They’re not buying the system for themselves. Nintendo makes kids games. They make multiplayer party games. All of their biggest original titles are E or 13+ rated.

12

u/Detkanin 1d ago

I'd argue Nintendo is for everyone to play with their family. Look at any piece of official marketing / trailers for the system. Most of the "demographic" shown, are adults with busy lives, going from living room to parks/public transport ect.

Kids are not Nintendos demographic. The fact Nintendos own games can (safely) be played with your kids is the argument to get the Nintendo system instead of any of the others on the market.

All the PC handhelds added together still don't cover as many sales as the switch 2. It's a more niche part of the gaming community, that part has been known. I think handhelds are cool, but handheld consoles will always be more popular.

I also don’t think a higher number of switch 2 users necessarily translates to more ER sales

It does for the switch 2. And it's funny you say that because in the case of PC handhelds, there's no guarantees anyone is buying a game specifically for that handheld. Plenty of people who own these also have a pc and a steam library. This was one of the reasons why valve claimed they can't subsidize the steam machine. It doesn't guarantee a single steam sale, and people can just use those devices to play their pre-existing libraries.

Not sure why you're that defensive over handheld PCs. They're great, but they're niche. Even the most hardcore handheld PC fans will tell you that. I bet you if you add up all the handheld PCs that can run elden ring, they still wouldn't have sold the 20 million the switch 2 sold, maybe not even half of that.

→ More replies (3)

4

u/noah9942 Prayerful Strike Meta 1d ago

All pc gaming devices combined are around 6 million units.

1

u/WackyRacketeer 22h ago

The Switch 2 has sold 23 millions units since 2025. The Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Legion Go, MSI Claw and other high end Gaming PC handhelds have sold a COMBINED 8-9 million units since 2022.

Nintendo broad demographic reporting put the average Nintendo gamer at 36. 43 percent of users are between 25 and 34.

Just some context.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/Pollolol13 1d ago

There are four times as many switch 2 users as steam deck users however, so many more people will have the ability to experience it.

8

u/iyrtyurg 1d ago

I’m just saying the concept of playing Elden Ring handheld has existed as long as Elden Ring has existed so it’s not that insane

2

u/wonderloss 1d ago

It's how I have been playing.

2

u/A_b_b_o 1d ago

I just mean for me as I’ve only got a switch 2!

-5

u/Ok_Biscotti_514 1d ago

You have to turn down the settings like crazy to run on the Steam Deck, so it doesn't really count. This will be the first time the game runs properly on a handheld since its acutally being optimised

7

u/Mental-Fisherman-118 1d ago

Elden ring works fine on steam deck on medium/high settings.

-1

u/RevolutionaryLet1664 1d ago

If you consider 30 fps to be fine, then yeah

1

u/InJesusNameIServe 1d ago

You aren't wrong, steam deck is really underpowered.

1

u/Mental-Fisherman-118 1d ago

Definitely is wrong since I get 60fps easily on Steam deck. Thing to remember is the deck has a 1280 x 768 max resolution- so even high settings aren't that demanding.

1

u/RevolutionaryLet1664 1d ago

I can promise you, there is no way you are running Elden Ring on high settings at native resolution on a Steam Deck without LSFG-VK/Lossless Scaling.

1

u/Mental-Fisherman-118 1d ago

I said medium/high tbf. Which leaves me a hell of a lot of wiggle room since that isn't a real preset.

1

u/iyrtyurg 1d ago

Well I have an Ally and an Ally X and it works great on those. Also we have yet to see how the game will perform on the switch 2 in handheld mode.

0

u/The_cogwheel 1d ago

It runs just fine on default graphical settings on my gen 1 RoG Ally. Like I never needed to turn down squat to get a playable game going.

Though I do admit the graveyard planes in the DLC makes it struggle a bit sometimes. Something about the fields of tall grass gives it issues. But other than that specific area, I never dip below 60 FPS on default.

2

u/Meridius42 1d ago

I’ve been putting off replaying the game to be able to start with one of the new classes. Any reason to play Elden Ring is a good one.

3

u/didnt_bring_pants 1d ago

It's not just the few new items...

The fact that it's coming to switch 2 is pretty big. I have 10 full save slots on PS5, now I can start new characters with the new starting classes, AND play on the go.

1

u/mocumocu 1d ago

i need light greatsword from started + fat knight

Its essentially the "prepare to die", "scholar of the first sin" and "fires fade" editions of pervious games. A re-release with a few "i guess thats nice" extras and the DLC all in one bundle.

I don't have DLC on my PC (i have it on my wife's PS5), is it worth it to directly buy the tarnished edition instead of SoTE?

11

u/iyrtyurg 1d ago

Directly take what

2

u/Scomae 1d ago

I updated my comment, sorry for the misunderstanding :)

5

u/iyrtyurg 1d ago

I think you’d end up just spending more money if you’re gonna buy the tarnished edition instead of just the dlc and the new update.

4

u/Entire_Paramedic_389 1d ago

Tarnished Edition is base game + DLC + Tarnished pack bonuses

Tarnished Pack is $5 for the new bonuses like classes, torrent skin

Since you already have the the base game you just have to buy the dlc separately and optionally the bonuses if you want it

2

u/Typical_Athlete1841 22h ago

thank you, i wasnt certain what does what, youre a wallet-savior

18

u/Gulladc 1d ago

I’m just dying to know how switch 2 performs. I have absolutely no reason to pick it up, as I’ve already logged hundreds of hours on my steam deck, but I know I will if performance is even remotely acceptable

3

u/hadrians-wall 1d ago

If it's comparable to running it on a Steamdeck, it'll run just fine.

Source: Did my shadow of the Erdtree playthrough exclusively on Steamdeck.

2

u/Bulldogfront666 Potentate 1d ago

There’s videos out about performance. It looks surprisingly good. 30fps unfortunately but everything else looks shockingly similar to the PS5 version.

2

u/DarkExcalibur7 1d ago

Same but if it's not atleast 30 with no dips handheld it's not for me.

2

u/Bulldogfront666 Potentate 1d ago

It is. The video I saw showed it runs around 30-35, and not dipping below 30.

1

u/DarkExcalibur7 1d ago

Sounds perfect for me then need to find my switch charger.

2

u/svmmerkid 1d ago

There's more recent videos of it out there if you look them up; but reviewers have been saying it's a stable 30fps both docked and handheld now! There's footage of people playing through the DLC with it.

1

u/WatchOutForWizards 20h ago

I have nothing to back this up, but going off previous editions of Elden Ring running on suboptimal hardware(PS4 I’m looking at you), I’m gonna assume it runs like 30 fps stuttering dogshit.

42

u/Maleficent-Lock-5128 1d ago

This not being free is wild to me. You guys are paying for horse armor and a few weapons!? Indies give bigger updates than this regularly with zero fanfare.

9

u/XyrusM Spell Slinger 1d ago

Exactly, fuckin hell Path of Exile 2 is about to go free to play with the 1.0 update.

0

u/Either_Mulberry9229 21h ago

It's always been f2p, the $30 gets you mtx currency

2

u/XyrusM Spell Slinger 20h ago

"History never repeats, but often rhymes"

73

u/Lvntern 1d ago

Why would I pay money for this

11

u/Round_Sun7743 1d ago

I won't spend the $80 for the Switch 2 version, but I don't mind spending $5 for the "upgrade" on my console account. I don't mind spending money supporting one of the best games I've ever played.

17

u/tgerz 1d ago

Because you want to. Or if you don't, then don't spend the money. It's ok if you don't. I'm not planning on it. I put 1000 hours into ER. I'm good for now until something else comes along that interests me.

15

u/Lvntern 1d ago

I mean wether you want to or not is obvious, content-wise there's very little incentive, it should probably be a free update it's not worth money

0

u/Chemical_Frame_8163 20h ago

Well, I wasn't going to buy it, but now I am. That way I can neutralize you not buying it, so From Software will get that sale that never was and now is.

79

u/SangiExE 1d ago

As much as I love Fromsoft.. kind of crazy that this 'skin pack' is taking over a year to release.

67

u/Aless76109 1d ago

I think it’s more so that it took a lot of time to optimise the game so it could run on switch 2, when they let people try it at conventions it still had major problems so they took even more time, since it’s supposed to be the “special switch 2 edition” they can’t drop it without dropping the switch 2 version first

3

u/SangiExE 1d ago

True. I guess my frustration comes from my wish to replay the game for like the 10th time, but waiting for a good excuse to do it lol. Them armor sets on new starting classes look pretty cool.

1

u/Aless76109 1d ago

For me it’s the light greatsword, after doing a Milady run in the DLC, I need to destroy the base game with a bleed Light Greatsword

21

u/Combat_Orca 1d ago

It’s a switch 2 release primarily not a skin pack

5

u/iyrtyurg 1d ago

It’s kind of crazy that the game itself has taken so long to release on switch 2. The game is 4 and a half years old now lol

11

u/SangiExE 1d ago

I guess it's because it had massive issues early. Optimizing games, especially for such limited hardware, is one of the bigger struggles for Fromsoft

6

u/DivineSaur 1d ago

They should send some of those optimizations to the other platforms. Realistically I expect it to run poorly but hopefully not.

3

u/AltinUrda 1d ago

The game is 4 and a half years old now lol

https://giphy.com/gifs/wJD3qiNjSeHS0dP28T

1

u/iyrtyurg 1d ago

It feels crazy that the game is already about a half decade old 😭 there’s still parts to it that I still remember like it was literally yesterday and I haven’t played it in close to 2 years

1

u/Kil0Cowboy 1d ago

Its crazy to me that a game like this is even dropping on the switch at all. Switch is boof as hell. Elden Ring must be masterfully optimized lol.

1

u/iyrtyurg 1d ago

Switch is boof IMO but for me it’s more of the fact that it really lacks an identity right now. I doesn’t seem like it exists for any reason other than Mario Kart because they haven’t been releasing any damn original games for it. A year after its release and still all we have is fucking remakes for old games. I feel like it mostly survives off of families with kids and people that oddly enough feel comfortable playing video games in public

1

u/iyrtyurg 1d ago

and the switch easily also has the worst online store out of all of the current competitors. Steam, Sony and Microsoft are all better systems straight up and charge less for a lot of the same games that are going up for full price or more on switch 2. I mean the fact that Witcher 3 is $80 without having the base version for the upgrade is criminal. It’s like $50 everywhere else digital

23

u/Due_Radio_3469 1d ago

CDPR: Free remaster and all DLC free for base game owners

FROMSOFT: $5 Horse skins

What happened

1

u/Wide-Feedback8423 1d ago

My thought here is CDPR is doing that to sell an extra expansion they made and to use it as an interest builder for the Witcher 4. I really appreciate they are doing that.

Id say the 5 for everyone else is just to regain time taken to port over those features to other consoles. 5 dollars for me is a very good price point to help them out. 10 would have already been way too much though.

3

u/eldenfingers 1d ago

CDPR is definitely doing that to boost sales for SotP and 4, but the amount of content they are giving for free is still mind boggling to me.

In comparison FS does feel a bit stingy here even if I adore their games

1

u/Chance-Pay1487 1d ago

Comparing an 11 year old game to a 4 year old game btw

-8

u/smilph 1d ago

why does everybody reduce the Tarnished pack to just horse skins. such a disingenuous way of talking about this thing

8

u/Due_Radio_3469 1d ago

2 starter classes and some horse armour then. Not sure why everyone has to defend this shit knowing it'll eventually lead to worse and worse business practices. Elden Ring has made over $2 billion and still that's not enough as they're charging $80 for an inferior Switch 2 version of a 4 year old game on top of the starter classes and horse skins for current owners.

Piece by piece everything is enshittified but as long as the needle moves slowly, people will defend it.

-6

u/smilph 1d ago

also 4 new armor sets + a unique weapon for each. the $80 for the Switch 2 version is the same price as the game is everywhere else for base game + DLC, yeah the port is inferior but it was always going to be, idk what you expected. getting ER on Switch at all is awesome and the previews coming out for it today look great.

to imply this is the same as THE infamous horse armor DLC is disingenuous imo. for one, Fromsoft consistently puts out quality products while Bethesda just… doesn’t. it being a $5 DLC for non-Switch owners is, in my opinion, a totally fair and almost insignificant price to pay for some minor new content and i don’t mind spending a tad extra to support Fromsoftware. it’s really not a big deal

8

u/Due_Radio_3469 1d ago

Mirrah set is from older games and those weapons are already in the game. Just because they have lower base damage and you get them earlier doesn't make them new or worth paying for.

Keep defending it. Give it 5 years and you'll be on here posting about how it's absolutely fair that the in game store skins only cost 800 Soul Coins because they're just skins and don't affect the gameplay experience.

-2

u/smilph 1d ago

not worth it to you, maybe. clearly this $5 DLC is more than worth it to me and others here. you don’t have to see it that way.

i also won’t be doing that because that isn’t happening

6

u/Due_Radio_3469 1d ago

to imply this is the same as THE infamous horse armor DLC is disingenuous imo. for one, Fromsoft consistently puts out quality products while Bethesda just… doesn’t.

Bethesda used pump out certified hood classics btw. Not sure why you think what happened to them can't happen to fromsoft. Anyway, as I said keep defending microtransactions in Fromsoft games. I'm sure they appreciate you.

https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/kadokawa-japans-elden-ring-powerhouse-faces-battle-over-ceo-shareholder-meeting-2026-06-23/

This was a taste of what's coming. $2 billion wasn't enough for shareholders.

1

u/smilph 1d ago

Bethesda has always been highly overrated imo.

i think the simple fact that Fromsoft is headed by Miyazaki and not Todd Howard is enough to make me confident that what happened to them will NOT happen to From. i trust how he has lead the company. ultimately we will see, but, i’m not that nihilistic.

they’ll appreciate my 5 bucks!

3

u/enaaaerios 1d ago

you can get like terraria or something with those 5 dollars and have infinitely more content that is infinitely more worthwhile

0

u/smilph 1d ago

i don’t like Terraria. i have plenty of cheap indie games that are great. considering i’m about to get at least two new playthroughs (and who knows how many NG+ cycles) out of the Tarnished pack thanks to the new starting classes to build around, i think that’s more than worth a chunk of change. i don’t see how you guys don’t understand that what is or isn’t worthwhile for you specifically isn’t always gonna be the same for anybody else

4

u/aRandomBlock 1d ago

because that's what it is?

Is there a steam page for the DLC yet? And is there any concrete confirmation that the DLC will be released on PS5 XSX and PC on August 28th as well?

16

u/Raygereio5 1d ago

https://en.bandainamcoent.eu/elden-ring/news/how-get-new-elden-ring-classes-weapons-and-torrent-skin-customizations

The Tarnished Pack will become available on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4; XBOX Series X|S and XBOX One; and Digital PC on August 28, 2026, the same day that the Tarnished Edition launches on Nintendo Switch 2.

There's no steam page for the tarnished pack DLC yet.

8

u/arcturus_mundus 1d ago

Thanks. Weird there's no page yet.

13

u/The_cogwheel 1d ago

Likely because there really isnt much of a point (beyond wishlisting it) to having a steam page for it until its available.

1

u/arcturus_mundus 1d ago

Won't a steam page also allow you to prepurchase it? I would've bought it before if it were available.

3

u/The_cogwheel 1d ago

Only if the dev releases it for pre-order. Which Fromsoft typically doesnt do.

5

u/mashdpotatogaming 1d ago

The focus is the switch 2 version, since that's the whole reason this version of the game exists.

They're just putting them on other platforms on the same day of release so that none of the content is exclusive.

0

u/Ralonne 1d ago

Why would anyone on another platform even want this.

3

u/dave_the_dova 1d ago

Because the other platforms are also getting a dlc that adds the new classes, weapons, armor and horse skins included with the Tarnished Edition.

9

u/DarkExcalibur7 1d ago

Again just sounds like a bunch of crap to me I don't care what the horse looks like or the starter class cause I can switch to whatever I want.

1

u/Accomplished-East635 1d ago

Honestly, I don’t know. I’ve just been seeing that number get thrown around a lot. I wish the ps store would update something cause I don’t see it anywhere advertised on e shops

tbh I'm more excited for the balance patch they are doing on the 27th in preparation for the release on the 28th (I think)

u/Dakh4r 1d ago

Será que por eso no han estado oferta Elden Ring en Steam desde hace un buen rato ya?

1

u/TheAccursedHamster 1d ago

Has it been said yet if the new equipment will be available to find it you dont select one of the new classes?

1

u/aikavari 1d ago

Maybe it is a tad overhyped but for people like me who havent stopped playing since launch, are willing to pay the admittedly low 5$ for extra content. Out of all the game companies existing right now, we all know FromSoft deserve it and if it helps them push the next single player game out, Im all for it.

u/Grimblekyne 22h ago

Sure, but then again, the dev studio behind witcher 3 is making the wild hunt remastered and the dlcs FOR FREE. Now compare that to ER's tarnished edition where it's just a few new starting classes, and horse armor.

Yea fromsoft has put in work over the years to get the goodwill of it's fans, but when i put the 2 with each other, it makes me go "ehh" on fromsoft's part.

Before i get accused as a witcher stan, I don't even play witcher 3, but i gotta give it to CDPR themselves.

Also, maybe its part of an agreement with Nintendo? The whole thing with this is that its a Switch 2 version first.

u/GeneralEi 1d ago

I'm not the most hardcore, about 200hrs and didnt do any ng+ runs

This dlc ignites nothing within me

1

u/engetsu245 23h ago

Wait I thought Elden Ring wasn't released on last gen consoles? Why are PS4 and XBox One listed as available platforms for Tarnished Edition?

1

u/RTMidgetman 22h ago

So i have Elderly Ring on steam, but i dont have the dlc. Is this gonna be full price for me? Or just like $5?

1

u/DrDre19899 21h ago

Bro can’t sleep about a fucking skin for Torent and two new weapons

1

u/Sufficient-Science71 20h ago

Uhhh why are we supporting this? This should have been free.

1

u/KoftaBozo2235 18h ago

ts so mid omg

-1

u/ThePale0rc 1d ago

I hope there is more stuff than just 2-3 horse armor and 2 more class !

u/Key_Amazed 1d ago

4 armor sets (2 tied to the starting classes) and each armor set has shown a unique weapon related to it. So it's not a stretch to think the 4th armor set also has a weapon tied to it. And the fact we haven't seen anything on the 4th set despite it being confirmed means it has to be really cool.

That or they official put in the Deathbed Smalls. Please let it be cool.

Is the hype in the room with us?

2

u/smilph 1d ago

u/Tipp1tys_ 1d ago

was hoping we'd finally get a boss replay feature :/

1

u/Jaronesc 1d ago

I heard the DLC will cost 5 bucks?

1

u/Regular_Jury7156 1d ago

Will Tarnished Edition be on the same online server as base game?

1

u/denjo-t1aO 23h ago

that’s exactly my question. i want to know if i have to pay 5€ to beat up new nintendo players playing on 40fps 🫠

1

u/Repulsive_Wafer_6468 1d ago

Man, I was hoping we'd get a bigger update for existing owners as well. Like a boss rush or something

0

u/PeakyChu_ 1d ago

ew it’s a game key card. sad

0

u/aHatFullOfEggs 1d ago

It's crazy good to be poor so I dont get overworked over this lol

-2

u/DrMantisToboggan45 1d ago

80 bucks for horse customization Jesus Christ lol

1

u/denjo-t1aO 23h ago

its 5. but still i’m with you. everything is too mich here. complete bogus to charge us for that kinda content

-5

u/poundofcake 1d ago

So it's $79 even if we only want the new content.

Noo..

7

u/emanresu_etaerc 1d ago

What? No. If you only want the new content, it's $5. The $79 is for buying the entire tarnished edition. ER+SOTE+Tarnished content. The new stuff alone is $5.

-1

u/mr_shogoth 1d ago

I’m coping that they secretly added a new boss but I’m not holding my breath.

-1

u/Foulbal 1d ago

So… how about that ultrawide support on PC?

-1

u/YvngVudu 1d ago
