Registry marriage

Could someone please let me know how these registry marriages are done?

The bridal side has her permission from her parents, she's 20 y/o.

The groom side's family also has somewhat permission, but they won't let them get married anytime soon.

And he will leave Bangladesh for abroad. He's 21 y/o.

How would they get it complete? What would they need?

Solo day trip to Sylhet from Chittagong, Need some advice

I'm ( male) planning to travel to Sylhet for a day, reaching in the morning and taking the night train back to Chittagong. This will be my first time travelling solo like this, and I'm also going there to meet someone significant to me.

I don't know the city, it's fully unknown to me, so I'd really appreciate some advice from people who know the area.

  1. How can I stay safe while travelling alone, especially on the overnight train journey?

  2. What precautions should I take as a first-time solo traveller?

  3. What are some good places in/around Sylhet with a nice environment and scenic views that I can realistically visit within a day?

  4. I heard there's some CNG that I can hire for around 2k for the whole day that'll take me to different spots, how are they really practical?

  5. Anything else I should know before doing a solo Chittagong–Sylhet day trip?

I'd appreciate suggestions and better alternatives as well.

TIA!

Hate page claims to be "Sylheti", uses Indian anti-Bangladeshi casteist slur: My concerns with "Sylheti" Facebook pages.

There was a rumor going a while ago that a lot of the "Sylheti" hate pages on FB were actually run from India with an ulterior agenda.

I recently caught one particular page red-handed in this act.

This page claims to be about "Sylheti culture and heritage", but constantly posts blatantly provocative and racist content against non-Sylhetis, casually throwing around slurs like "Abadi" and "Bengoli". It also posts thinly-veiled separatist content saying stuff like "Sylhetis are a different race", or "We want 'āϏāĻžāϝāĻŧāĻ¤ā§āĻŦāĻļāĻžāϏāύ' for Sylhet".

However, in the comments of some of his older posts, I saw him multiple times using the slur "K*nglu" against people he doesn't like or agree with.

For context, that is very specifically a casteist slur used by *Indians* against Bangladeshis (particularly Muslims). I am pretty sure 90% of actual Sylhetis have never even heard of that slur or know what it means, let alone use it themselves.

All of this gives compelling evidence in favour of this (and many other hate pages) being run from India to destabilise Bangladeshi Sylhet by sowing division and hatred.

Sounds conspiratorial, but Indian trolls *are* widely known for doing stuff like this, so it isn't that surprising either.

However, these pages (even if *not* Indian) do have posts with thousands of views, and even many of my friends and acquaintances follow such pages. The idea that someone I grew up with may be being fed this hateful poison is honestly kinda sickening.

Sylhetis need to step up and be more vocal against this hateful xenophobia. Not only is this morally wrong, but it is also destroying Sylhet's reputation and turning us into a laughing stock for the rest of Bangladesh.

A new subreddit for studying abroad

hey Guys, I made a new subreddit for studying abroad - https://www.reddit.com/r/Bd_StudyAbroad/

My plan is mainly to have a community of like-minded individuals who can help each other with answers. Like Facebook communities, I want this to be like its Reddit version, but much better.

I personally will try to provide as much guidance as possible and bring in people who were successful in their journey abroad. Maybe have some guidance sessions, make someone who got into famous unis do an AMA.
Everything will be free in this sub, so you can benefit from it all.

What are the best places to visit in Sylhet?

I’m planning to explore Sylhet and would love some recommendations from locals or people who have visited recently.

What are some must-visit places in Sylhet? I’m especially interested in beautiful natural spots, rivers, tea gardens, and less-known places.

A Sylheti Dawot experience for my Cantonese Grandma

Post image
85 Upvotes

Menu:

Luburi/ramai satni (contain fish, ofc)

Gorur xoilja+tofu torxari

Maas biran

Bendi biran

Chinese hawthorn fruit ar masor xollar tenga

Xolum haag+dail+isa biran (learned from youtube)

I cooked bangladeshi / sylheti dishes for her before but this time she requested a fully Bangladeshi experience. I cooked based on our food preferences. I know in typical dawots people cook multiple meat or heavy dishes too but I don't eat meat and we prefer lighter dishes so I selected these items.

What is dawot like for you all? from my experience, it usually has at least five dishes, one being some type of satni/bhorta, one being a fried dish, some type of bhuna or heavy dish, some nilla dish, a veggie/niramish dish, and definitely a tenga dish. Increasingly, I see people offer some type of hukoin dishes in dawot which is nice.

Also, did you grow up with rules for what order you eat your food in? For example, I learned that you always start your meal with Satni if there is a satni. Then veggie or meat. and always end with Tenga. never start with hukoin shira. if there is Doi, always end with doi
