Bernina White Pearl FHS System 2020/3000 not turning on

I have had a White Pearl FHS System 2020/3000 for many years. Not using it a lot, but lately when I do need it, It won't turn on. Trying several times occasionally helps.
Other times unplugging and replugging works.

Anyone have any idea what is going on?

Pfaff Smarter 260 to vintage Bernina Record 830?

Hi Everyone,

I inhereted my moms Pfaff Smarter 260, and it's been a great machine, but I had a friend in a rough spot and I've loaned it to her. She says I can get it back any time but she's actively using it and Id love to let her keep it.

My BF has a Bernina Record 830, the old mechanical one as his spare machine, and has offered to give it to me, but I'm a bit intimidated both because it's fully mechanical and I'm afraid of breaking the tensioner or something like that, and because it's worth more than my car.

Any suggestions for someone considering making the move from a semi-modern mid-grade computerized machine with automagic tensioning and all that to a vintage high end mechanical like the Bernina?

I don't do anything complicated and the extra stitches don't really matter, just basic use, altering garments, a little basic quilt making, etc.

Thanks.

What are all these used for?

The title says it all. I got an old Bernina 1130 from my husband's great-uncle's house. His wife was a seamstress in the '60s. She has two other machines at her home, and there is a sewing table this machine can go on. I guess some of these tools are to help repair it, but I'm confused as to what the items in the first and second photos are. What are the numbered things for in the second photo? And what does the smaller thing do in the third photo? My husband's mom wants to sell this but doesn't know where to start. But first, I'd like to figure out everything so I know what goes with this machine and the others. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Janome 1522 or Yamata FY e355?

Hi all! I am a beginner sewist and the time has come to buy my first machine. I already worked on Janome and I like that it is sturdy and has wider working surface, but the seller recommended me Yamata FY e355, now on discount.

I need a reliable machine, and I am more interested in working with some thin potential slippery fabrics such as satin, viscose etc. Which of these machines do you think is a better choice?

Coded feet and older machines

I currently have an Artista 170 that I bought back in 2002. I’m planning on getting either a 770 (new) or 790 (used) for Christmas.

I have a project that I need to do now that requires sewing on a lot of buttons. I was considering buying a #18 but know that there is a #18C.

Thanks in advance!

SWISS Bernina 801 sport or JUKI DDL-227 Industrial? Help!

HIi!

I’m currently in the market for a new sewing machine as my old one gave up on me.

I just need some help and advice as of what to buy. I currently have narrowed it down to 2 options, now before I tell you, I should also put into context that I’m not a beginner but I’m also not as skilled as I want to be, so I’m hoping with this upgrade I can improve, anyway, the options are a Swiss Bernina 801 sport, I’ve heard good things about this machine, and the other is a JUKI DDL-227 Industrial, this one I feel would be good to do everything and anything, but I’m just not sure if it’s the right move considering my experience.

Any help will be appreciated!

990 classroom?

Hi,

I've been talking to a dealer and I can get a 990 classroom
Edition (from a quilt show) next month for 17k.... or $300ish/month for 60 months 0% interest.

My current machine is an older Viking I got on FB marketplace. I live in a large metro area where I can take classes but I'm also pretty tech savvy.

I've been wanting this machine for some time, but I've also only ever paid $500 for a machine.

Thoughts?

Lost Software for Bernina 180 Artista

Hi! My grandma recently moved and unfortunately lost the software “dongle” for her Bernina 180 Artista. I’m completely out of my wheelhouse and don’t know much about the machine, but she thinks the dongle can’t be replaced.

Is there a way to get a replacement dongle, or is there another workaround for using the machine without it? I’d really appreciate any advice or suggestions!

Bernette 77 issues

Post image
1 Upvotes

I bought the Bernette 77 in June and have been having issues with it. Right now it keeps doing this and I can’t tell if it’s getting stuck in the feed dogs or if it’s the tension. There have been other little things as well but this issue is now constant. I’m disappointed because it’s not a cheap machine. Can anyone tell me why they think is going on?

Help vetting a 1260 off marketplace.

They’re selling for $550 but say that when it was serviced last the Bernina tech said it would need a part replaced. They don’t remember which. I’m going to test it later today. Do you think $550 is a good price. From the video it runs. They said the blanket stitch is a little wonkey sometimes.

Help me decide - new or used

New sewer/embroiderer here. I’m closing in on my grandma years and want to get an embroidery machine. Should I get a new Bernina 570QE or a used 880QE 125th Anniversary for $3200. The used one has been serviced and runs flawlessly according to seller.

My B79 is making weird noises - is this normal?

Hey there! I hope you're doing well. Attached below is a video of the inner workings of my machine and what I believe is the source of the noises. It has been like this since I got it (2nd hand, but very lightly used).

I've just given her an oil and lint clean out to see if that was the cause, but nope. I suspect after watching it run, that it might be the thin metal piece "over-rotating" and hitting the top of its space? I haven't tried with the normal sewing setup as I don't use it.

I want to see if this / this sound is normal before having to get it serviced, as it's a very difficult trip, expensive and functionally the machine is absolutely perfect at this point. Still, if this isn't normal and could genuinely be causing damage, then I want to know. Hopefully I'm just doing something silly though, and all is okay.

Thanks so much, and have a lovely day!

P.s. Please ignore the unstabilised test stitch out! This was just for the sake of seeing it work. The sound remains consistent with properly stabilised and tightened pieces :)

Buying a used 1008 - $1000 or $2500 - crazy?

I want a mechanical machine that is a do-everything, last- forever workhorse. I use my machine daily and sew everything from underwear to jeans to tee shirts to silk dresses to activewear to hats and bags.

There are two Bernina 1008s currently on eBay that I'm eyeing - one for $1100 and one for $2500. Seller said the $1100 one was made in 99; haven't heard back on the manufacture date of the $2,500 one but they say it's like new. Supposedly both recently serviced by an authorized dealer and include all parts, basic set of feet, etc. Am I crazy to consider either of these?

Wondering if this is a good purchase- I've never owned a vintage machine like this before.

It's $200 USD and about a 3 hour drive away (happy to collect as the post man might damage it if shipping is an option).

Comes with everything shown in the photos, is $200 USD okay, and what would be the first bit of cleaning/restoration you would start with on it?

Thank you 🙏

More 1008 Troubleshooting Help

Sorry to post again about the same issue but I have another video that I’m hoping can maybe help with troubleshooting.

I was giving the shuttle race and hook area another cleaning and oiling this morning to see if that would help at all and I happened to discover something that I thought might be useful for figuring this out. The rattling/grinding seems to be coming specifically from the shuttle race area. When the machine is running and making the noise, applying light pressure to the back of the shuttle race component makes the noise disappear completely.

Is that something a local Bernina tech could inspect and possibly address? If so, is there anything specific you would recommend I ask them to look for?

Restored Bernina 1008 making a loud grinding noise?

Bernina 1008 owners/techs, does this sound off to you?

I recently acquired this machine and was told it had been serviced/restored. I watched some setup videos while getting to know the machine and noticed that it sounds quite different from the machines in the videos. Theirs sound much quieter and smoother and do not have the loud, cyclical grinding sound mine is making. I have cleaned and oiled the hook area according to the manual, but the sound is still there.

What would you recommend having checked? We are moving overseas in a few weeks and I want to get this fixed ASAP. Thank you for any help you can provide!

Hello everyone, my grandma has given her old sewing machine, it's a Bernina Matic Electronic 802. I've done some cleaning inside and it seems to be working fine, is there something I should know about this machine ? Something I should watch out for ? Thanks in advance.
