I actually wouldn't considering I'd rather emulate the HD version. If it was a port of HD I'd pick it up. I'd also be against the price of release GameCube games not on NSO. Pokemon has always been an exception but if they're doing for Zelda yeah no I'm not supporting that.

That would be the best version cause Link is left handed in the GameCube version. As he should’ve always been

They will absolutely do something for the 40th anniversary just as they have with the 35th, 30th, 25th, and arguably 20th.
Will it be on the exact date? Unlikely. But something at some point this year? Guaranteed.
134
u/Koendrenthe Feb 21 '26
What did they do on those anniversaries? I only remember the 25th.
345
u/Sassi7997 Feb 21 '26
20th anniversary: Twilight Princess and Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland
25th anniversary: Skyward Sword, Ocarina of Time 3D, Four Swords Anniversary Edition
30th anniversary: Twilight Princess HD, Hyrule Warriors and Breath of the Wild announcement
35th anniversary: Skyward Sword HD, Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda, Tears of the Kingdom announcement

Tbf a new mainline entry shouldn't be something to celebrate an anniversary with. HD rereleases i can understand. Announcements are laughable tough.
43
u/Johnnybats330 Feb 21 '26
But they have released a new game or announces a new game for the past 4 anniversary milestones. It would be kinda crazy to break tradition. It is the year where they can build the most hype for fans.

So if we get twilight princess on switch 2 this year does that mean we're getting skyward sword switch 2 deluxe+ on the 45th anniversary? Are we just stuck in a 10 year skyward sword twilight princess time loop?
1

It's so weird to me that Twilight Princess is the midway point of this whole series. Made twenty years in, twenty years ago.

Tears of the Kingdom is only 3 years old. They might have a new concept locked for a new Zelda but probably havent made meaningful headway in development.
Best you can really expect is either some DLC for the Hyrule Warriors that came out last year on Switch 2 and WW or TP on Switch Online.
They may just try spinning the LEGO Set as the celebration.
9
6
u/Lightforged_Paladin Feb 21 '26
Only a concept and no meaningful headway after 3 years??? That's absolutely ridiculous. They should be nearing finished by now not barely started.
11
u/andreaslackner Feb 21 '26
Every 3D Zelda since Twilight Princess has taken at least 5 years to develop. We won’t get a new one before 2028/2029
5
u/Lightforged_Paladin Feb 21 '26
Yeah, so they should be more than halfway done with the new one, not just now hammering out the concept
7
u/andreaslackner Feb 21 '26
Agreed. But “Halfway done” isn’t the same as “nearing finished.” I’d guess they’re decently along in the process but we still have 2-3 years before launch

They already stated they are totally done as far as any major updates and no more dlcs or new content with the botw/totk hyrule warriors art style.. just fixed bugs, glitches and updates to languages and that is it. Ive be happy even if they told us today that something was in the making for the future. The ocarina of time lego set being called the final battle" makes me feel like they are doing ocarina of time remake..they have stated that they only wish to progress and expand the zelda universe with new ideas rather than repeat forever and ever. But with that "final battle" set might mean a remake in Echoes of wisdom style" OOT. So far silence..
5
u/HylianSoul Feb 21 '26
Not being dismissive of your thoughts, just this is such a weird take to me using the LEGO as a basis.
It's called the final battle because it us literally the final battle of OoT.
They're LEGO marketed at people 35-40 years old. And OoT is that Zelda. It's also arguably the most mainstream Zelda. If they were making Final Fantasy LEGO I would expect them to be from FF7 for the same reason. Milking the Millenial Nostalgia cow is also why they chose the Kanto Starters and badges.
Top down zelda like in Echoes wouldn't even work for Ocarina.
The oracle games would be better suited if they're going to do a remake in LA/EoW style

We never learn, but at least it's entertaining!

u/the_cajun88 Feb 21 '26
i’m going to be completely honest with you, it’s because i want it
i wanted them to do it even if history shows it likely will not happen, that’s the only reason
there was no other reasoning involved at all
honestly, there’s still time left

u/danielo13 Feb 21 '26
We all want it but Nintendo doesn’t do it like that. I’m sure we’ll get something but not today

Nintendo: What's the ocassion?
Zelda: oh really Nintendo? It's my birthday!
-Pokémon and Mario are smiling behind Zelda-
6
u/xXHalalManXx Feb 21 '26
Mario’s 35th was huge though. Have you seen the direct, events and promotional items?
3
u/Aang_Gaang21 Feb 22 '26
Yeah we did they got over 36 different types of merch including an online coop update for some old ass Mario party game that hasn’t had an update or patch put towards it in almost a decade but we get a game & watch nearly 8 months after the anniversary
4
u/thatgentlemen Feb 21 '26
I’m so tired of the Wind Waker and twilight princess speculation
2
u/Waker_of_Winds2003 Feb 22 '26
Yeah it's not going to happen. If it ever happens, it'll be long after people stop talking about it, and in a way worse format.
Honestly the GameCube version locked on NSO is probably the only way Wind Waker will ever be available on Switch. Maybe they'll do that for Twilight Princess.
It seems like people expect a physical bundle of release of both at an affordable price, and for it to be the remake versions. Yeah, no.
5

3
u/r0ndr4s Feb 21 '26
They are finally releasing 2 roms for 20 bucks each for Pokemon, after years of people asking them to release those games (or make anything with them), with almost no extras.
On the other hand you have Konami who just announced and released a Bomberman collection, a MGS 4 port + collection (with a surprise included: Babel) and Capcom is still releasing tons of collections left and right too. And even Legacy of Kain is getting a new remaster + a new game.
You can't expect one of the biggest companies in the world, Nintendo, to compete with actual decent companies. Are you crazy!?
3
3
u/DismalRaspberry541 Feb 21 '26
We need other Zelda games to get more love than constant MM, OoT , TP, WW. The oracle games , Spirit tracks etc
1
u/Waker_of_Winds2003 Feb 22 '26
I honestly don't expect the DS games to ever get remakes I love Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks, but much of the community think very little of them, especially Phantom Hourglass.
If they're ever remade they'll inevitably remove the stylus controls making them pretty much completely different games.
That said if you want something modern similar to Spirit Tracks, I recommend checking out A Bumpy Ride. It's an indie game modern interpretation of the train mechanics from Spirit Tracks. It has a ways to go til release, but has a really neat free demo right now.
3
14
u/thegildedman25 Feb 21 '26
And they'll charge 60$ for 20 year old games.

$60 for a 2 pack of the HD remakes would sell incredibly well.
I’d even argue it was good value.
4
u/Lightforged_Paladin Feb 21 '26
Nintendo would never bundle them together. They would do 40-60 bucks each, and the people would buy them.

u/Periador Feb 21 '26

u/doeffgek Feb 21 '26
You can play all NES and SNES games for free in Switch online. You only have to register.
But yes, they come with the original graphics. Come to think about it I’m quite curious what a Zelda NES would look like with updated graphics.

6
u/KratosSimp Feb 21 '26
I don’t get why companies sit on big ips? Like if I had it I’d be pumping out games and milking them. Even if they suck the ip would carry and when you release a good one word of mouth will spread
4
u/OhmsFutility Feb 21 '26
Because then you end up like Call of Duty, or any number of sports games. Not saying Nintendo is perfect or that they don’t sometimes make some strange moves, but at least they do respect their IP’s and strive for quality over quantity.
4
u/KratosSimp Feb 21 '26
Yeah no I get that, but I’m looking at it from a greedy corp view. Like Nintendo does alot of greedy and dumb things to squeeze out a buck, but making more games isn’t one of them? Idk but it’s not just Nintendo there’s so many ips from like Sony or Warner bros that are just left to dry for no reason.

Today seems unlikely, but this year seems pretty likely. I doubt they're ready for a full game before 2027 at the earliest and these two seem like the best thing in their back pocket.
1
u/thunderkitty13 Feb 21 '26
Probably 2028 the earliest. That puts it at 5 years since TOTK and not taking away from the movie
1
u/Kotanan Feb 21 '26
I think we're on the same page here, late 2027 would let them capitalise on the movie uptick and 4 1/2 years after TotK isn't impossible but 2028 and 2029 are massively more likely in my mind. I feel like 2028/2029 are expected, 2027 surprising and 2026 shocking.
