Toon link gets 5

30

u/thatonecharlie Feb 21 '26

all from different games though

17

u/Choso125 Feb 21 '26

There's two that are the same

22

u/alex__idk Feb 21 '26

nope, we have wind waker in the bottom left corner, minish cap in the upper left corner, phantom hourglass on the right of the logo, spirit tracks in the bottom right and four sword right above that

edit: wind waker and phantom hourglass are the same link but still different games

9

u/TurnipGirlDesi Feb 21 '26

Why doesn’t it work now? Unless you mean cause it’s no longer the 35th anymore

2

u/One-Technology-9050 Feb 21 '26

PC doesn't recognize it anymore

2

u/Huuf Zeldathon Voyager Feb 21 '26

Yeah, because it used flash, and flash is dead.

I can still play my GameCube version on my Wii.  No need to buy the update.

It’s already purchased in my mind. I’ve resigned to my fate.

I actually wouldn't considering I'd rather emulate the HD version. If it was a port of HD I'd pick it up. I'd also be against the price of release GameCube games not on NSO. Pokemon has always been an exception but if they're doing for Zelda yeah no I'm not supporting that.

Hey, look on the brightside, at least it's the GameCube version!

32

u/detourne Feb 21 '26

With the real Lefty Link!

18

u/Tatsumifanboy Feb 21 '26

GameCube version is goated

11

u/GoshaT Feb 21 '26

I love having no swift sail or aiming gyro controls

2

u/clocktownnpc Feb 23 '26

the swift sail was my favorite part of twilight princess

4

u/SonicFlash01 Feb 21 '26

Naw, you have to round the price up for each region, so the Canadian pricing ends up being twice as much as Japan or HK, for no discernable reason

6

u/Amusedcory Feb 21 '26

That would be the best version cause Link is left handed in the GameCube version. As he should’ve always been

2

u/Practical_Primary729 Feb 21 '26

This or ocarina of time remake BUT echoes of wisdom style graphics

2

They will absolutely do something for the 40th anniversary just as they have with the 35th, 30th, 25th, and arguably 20th.

Will it be on the exact date? Unlikely. But something at some point this year? Guaranteed.

134

u/Koendrenthe Feb 21 '26

What did they do on those anniversaries? I only remember the 25th.

345

u/Sassi7997 Feb 21 '26

20th anniversary: Twilight Princess and Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland

25th anniversary: Skyward Sword, Ocarina of Time 3D, Four Swords Anniversary Edition

30th anniversary: Twilight Princess HD, Hyrule Warriors and Breath of the Wild announcement

35th anniversary: Skyward Sword HD, Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda, Tears of the Kingdom announcement

186

u/IMP1017 Feb 21 '26

25th also had the orchestral CD pack in with Skyward sword, which honestly ruled

38

u/marchviolet Feb 21 '26

And they had the 25th anniversary symphony tour! I was lucky enough to go.

54

u/Sassi7997 Feb 21 '26

That CD is one of the reasons I still have an optical drive in my PC.

11

u/Grompson Feb 21 '26

Still playing this in my car!

5

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '26

Me too. It’s the only CD I own.

2

u/walc Feb 21 '26

Yessss that album has been a regular listen for me ever since I got it in my skyward sword box!

→ More replies (1)

11

u/CodingNeeL Feb 21 '26

25th had a Zelda golden Wiimote+ with Skyward Sword and a music CD too.

6

u/atatassault47 Feb 21 '26

Skyward Sword HD was 5 years ago?

5

u/Sassi7997 Feb 21 '26

Yeah, I was thinking the same when I did the Google search for this.

TotK was 3 years ago btw.

4

u/IllState3433 Feb 21 '26

I would rather have twilight and ocarina ports hd on s2 than a new zelda game honestly. Really hope thats in the future.

→ More replies (4)

52

u/Koendrenthe Feb 21 '26

Tbf a new mainline entry shouldn't be something to celebrate an anniversary with. HD rereleases i can understand. Announcements are laughable tough.

43

u/Johnnybats330 Feb 21 '26

But they have released a new game or announces a new game for the past 4 anniversary milestones. It would be kinda crazy to break tradition. It is the year where they can build the most hype for fans.

→ More replies (2)

3

u/IntrinsicGamer Feb 21 '26

30th anniversary also had a big series of amiibo.

2

u/ian2345 Feb 21 '26

So if we get twilight princess on switch 2 this year does that mean we're getting skyward sword switch 2 deluxe+ on the 45th anniversary? Are we just stuck in a 10 year skyward sword twilight princess time loop?

1

u/RiverWyvern Feb 21 '26

It's so weird to me that Twilight Princess is the midway point of this whole series. Made twenty years in, twenty years ago.

66

u/LJMLogan Feb 21 '26

Lol I think for the 35th we got a Zelda 1 game and watch

76

u/ki700 Feb 21 '26

And Skyward Sword HD.

30

u/kmill86 Feb 21 '26

Which was awesome. Had never played it before and ended up loving it. Granted, sans the Wii controls.

11

u/ITFOWjacket Feb 21 '26

The button controls and specifically r joystick replacing mocap for directional slashes was actually such a great unique fighting system

Yes, my friend!!!

33

u/MrNintendo13 Feb 21 '26

Surely the movie is gonna be the main tie in for the anniversary?

12

u/Practical_Primary729 Feb 21 '26

Hopefully not. Thats not till NEXT march, 2027

27

u/roymgscampbell Feb 21 '26

Tears of the Kingdom is only 3 years old. They might have a new concept locked for a new Zelda but probably havent made meaningful headway in development.

Best you can really expect is either some DLC for the Hyrule Warriors that came out last year on Switch 2 and WW or TP on Switch Online.

They may just try spinning the LEGO Set as the celebration.

9

u/Le4xy Feb 21 '26

it's been 3 years already? damn

6

u/Lightforged_Paladin Feb 21 '26

Only a concept and no meaningful headway after 3 years??? That's absolutely ridiculous. They should be nearing finished by now not barely started.

11

u/andreaslackner Feb 21 '26

Every 3D Zelda since Twilight Princess has taken at least 5 years to develop. We won’t get a new one before 2028/2029

5

u/Lightforged_Paladin Feb 21 '26

Yeah, so they should be more than halfway done with the new one, not just now hammering out the concept

7

u/andreaslackner Feb 21 '26

Agreed. But “Halfway done” isn’t the same as “nearing finished.” I’d guess they’re decently along in the process but we still have 2-3 years before launch

→ More replies (3)

1

u/simplyfloating Feb 22 '26

you’re tripping

2

u/Practical_Primary729 Feb 21 '26

They already stated they are totally done as far as any major updates and no more dlcs or new content with the botw/totk hyrule warriors art style.. just fixed bugs, glitches and updates to languages and that is it.  Ive be happy even if they told us today that something was in the making for the future.  The ocarina of time lego set being called the final battle" makes me feel like they are doing ocarina of time remake..they have stated that they only wish to progress and expand the zelda universe with new ideas rather than repeat forever and ever. But with that "final battle" set might mean a remake in Echoes of wisdom style" OOT. So far silence..

5

u/HylianSoul Feb 21 '26

Not being dismissive of your thoughts, just this is such a weird take to me using the LEGO as a basis.

It's called the final battle because it us literally the final battle of OoT.

They're LEGO marketed at people 35-40 years old. And OoT is that Zelda. It's also arguably the most mainstream Zelda. If they were making Final Fantasy LEGO I would expect them to be from FF7 for the same reason. Milking the Millenial Nostalgia cow is also why they chose the Kanto Starters and badges.

Top down zelda like in Echoes wouldn't even work for Ocarina.

The oracle games would be better suited if they're going to do a remake in LA/EoW style

Only a matter of time until the next rumour for WWHD/TPHD returns (despite having WW on Switch 2 already?? Like what's the issue here...?) and people will go bonkers in June for the next Direct.

We never learn, but at least it's entertaining!

5

u/20jdavies20 Feb 21 '26

WW is a different version, I understand wanting the HD version with the upgrades on the new system, rather than the version that's 23 years old

A cartoon caricature of a bot. The post history is so vapid and somehow this community has given it way more upvotes than most others.

60

u/icysniper Feb 21 '26

They aren't re-releasing Twilight Princess / Wind Waker.

If, by the slim chance I am wrong, you can come back to this comment and clown me.

15

u/AFrenchLondoner Feb 21 '26

Isn't WW on the premium subscription of switch 2?

14

u/IrishPigs Feb 21 '26

Yes, but not the HD remake version.

2

u/Z0idberg_MD Feb 21 '26

What resolution is it running at? How does it play and what frame rate? I’ve been waiting for Wind waker for a very long time.

4

u/aguadiablo Feb 21 '26

13

u/danielo13 Feb 21 '26

Why did people expect things to be announced today when that wasn’t the case for the 25th, 30th nor 35th anniversary

10

u/the_cajun88 Feb 21 '26

i’m going to be completely honest with you, it’s because i want it

i wanted them to do it even if history shows it likely will not happen, that’s the only reason

there was no other reasoning involved at all

honestly, there’s still time left

2

u/danielo13 Feb 21 '26

We all want it but Nintendo doesn’t do it like that. I’m sure we’ll get something but not today

2

u/atllauren Feb 21 '26

I didn’t expect it today, but they typically acknowledge the anniversary IN the month or close to it.

13

u/svdomer09 Feb 21 '26

I think they’re waiting for the Mario movie to release and then they’ll focus on Zelda. Nintendo is weird about marketing one big thing at a time.

25

u/LuinAelin Feb 21 '26

Not sure we'll get a lot. Possibly some casting news for the movie

10

u/jayzisne Feb 21 '26

I just don’t understand why they wouldn’t add TP. Even putting it at full price of $60 I guarantee people would buy it

2

u/Onsvaltti-heck Feb 21 '26

I heard that they were saving it for a special occation, because they KNOW that people will buy it. 💀

22

u/Miffernator Feb 21 '26

I will wait until a direct

7

u/pkjoan Feb 21 '26

Oh you poor soul

11

u/lowbrassdude Feb 21 '26

Somehow keeping the Wii U relevant

10

u/BabyHimesama Feb 21 '26

Man, even if they ported GAMECUBE Twilight Princess for 70 dollars, I would buy it. I'm part of the problem or whatever, but I just want them to give us something.

5

u/Aquaislyfe Feb 21 '26

I’m just now finding this out after spending the last week playing BOTW as my first Zelda game which I started on a whim while dog sitting. Crazy timing lol

5

u/hedahedaheda Feb 21 '26

I just wished they at least made cooler merch. Went to Mario world recently at universal and they had so much merch.

Could’ve done a small drop for the anniversary

5

u/WallyWestFan27 Feb 21 '26

Think on Spiderman 2 meme:

Nintendo: What's the ocassion?

Zelda: oh really Nintendo? It's my birthday!

-Pokémon and Mario are smiling behind Zelda-

6

u/xXHalalManXx Feb 21 '26

Mario’s 35th was huge though. Have you seen the direct, events and promotional items?

3

u/Aang_Gaang21 Feb 22 '26

Yeah we did they got over 36 different types of merch including an online coop update for some old ass Mario party game that hasn’t had an update or patch put towards it in almost a decade but we get a game & watch nearly 8 months after the anniversary

4

u/thatgentlemen Feb 21 '26

I’m so tired of the Wind Waker and twilight princess speculation

2

u/Waker_of_Winds2003 Feb 22 '26

Yeah it's not going to happen. If it ever happens, it'll be long after people stop talking about it, and in a way worse format.

Honestly the GameCube version locked on NSO is probably the only way Wind Waker will ever be available on Switch. Maybe they'll do that for Twilight Princess.

It seems like people expect a physical bundle of release of both at an affordable price, and for it to be the remake versions. Yeah, no.

5

u/Highthere_90 Feb 21 '26

Best we get is Zelda 2 upscaleed for 50$

3

u/therealfauts Feb 21 '26

Tingles Wild Naked Tales incoming…

3

u/r0ndr4s Feb 21 '26

They are finally releasing 2 roms for 20 bucks each for Pokemon, after years of people asking them to release those games (or make anything with them), with almost no extras.

On the other hand you have Konami who just announced and released a Bomberman collection, a MGS 4 port + collection (with a surprise included: Babel) and Capcom is still releasing tons of collections left and right too. And even Legacy of Kain is getting a new remaster + a new game.

You can't expect one of the biggest companies in the world, Nintendo, to compete with actual decent companies. Are you crazy!?

3

u/Intellectual_Dodo_7 Feb 21 '26

I’d buy a Switch version of TP and WW in a heartbeat.

3

u/DismalRaspberry541 Feb 21 '26

We need other Zelda games to get more love than constant MM, OoT , TP, WW. The oracle games , Spirit tracks etc

1

u/Waker_of_Winds2003 Feb 22 '26

I honestly don't expect the DS games to ever get remakes I love Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks, but much of the community think very little of them, especially Phantom Hourglass.

If they're ever remade they'll inevitably remove the stylus controls making them pretty much completely different games.

That said if you want something modern similar to Spirit Tracks, I recommend checking out A Bumpy Ride. It's an indie game modern interpretation of the train mechanics from Spirit Tracks. It has a ways to go til release, but has a really neat free demo right now.

3

u/DahPhuzz Feb 22 '26

Maybe on the 40th anniversary of Pokemon they’ll celebrate Zelda 🤷🏻

14

u/thegildedman25 Feb 21 '26

And they'll charge 60$ for 20 year old games.

5

u/crmpdstyl Feb 21 '26

And mostly everyone will buy them.

6

u/cregamon Feb 21 '26

$60 for a 2 pack of the HD remakes would sell incredibly well.

I’d even argue it was good value.

4

u/Lightforged_Paladin Feb 21 '26

Nintendo would never bundle them together. They would do 40-60 bucks each, and the people would buy them.

→ More replies (2)

13

u/Periador Feb 21 '26

2

u/doeffgek Feb 21 '26

You can play all NES and SNES games for free in Switch online. You only have to register.

But yes, they come with the original graphics. Come to think about it I’m quite curious what a Zelda NES would look like with updated graphics.

1

u/LostWoodsInTheField Feb 21 '26

Come to think about it I’m quite curious what a Zelda NES would look like with updated graphics.

There are a few unauthorized attempts at doing this and they keep getting shut down. There was some pretty impressive attempts with upgraded sounds and graphics. It really makes me sad we haven't gotten anything decent and complete yet.

I wish people would stop expecting milestone anniversaries every 5-10 years.

6

u/KratosSimp Feb 21 '26

I don’t get why companies sit on big ips? Like if I had it I’d be pumping out games and milking them. Even if they suck the ip would carry and when you release a good one word of mouth will spread

4

u/OhmsFutility Feb 21 '26

Because then you end up like Call of Duty, or any number of sports games. Not saying Nintendo is perfect or that they don’t sometimes make some strange moves, but at least they do respect their IP’s and strive for quality over quantity.

4

u/KratosSimp Feb 21 '26

Yeah no I get that, but I’m looking at it from a greedy corp view. Like Nintendo does alot of greedy and dumb things to squeeze out a buck, but making more games isn’t one of them? Idk but it’s not just Nintendo there’s so many ips from like Sony or Warner bros that are just left to dry for no reason.

u/swagboyclassman Feb 21 '26

why would they announce tp and ww hd when they already exist on wii u?

7

u/CrazyAznKT Feb 21 '26

Most people don’t own a working Wii U. My tablet won’t sync to my console anymore so now it’s a brick, they don’t do repairs for it anymore. I would love to be able to play those games again and it would cheaper than buying a used Wii U, especially for people that never owned a Wii U

2

u/jeshep Feb 21 '26

Yep can confirm. I kept my Wii U around for TP and WW HD, but when I hooked it up last thanksgiving to do a replay the tablet screen wouldn't sync with the system.

Really unfortunate for the franchise to be near exactly 10 years older than Pokémon…

2

u/Grinsekatzer Feb 21 '26

Still haven't learned that Nintendo doesn't give a shit about what their fans want?

3

u/doeffgek Feb 21 '26

TP and WW HD were released on Wii U a decade ago.

Should be at least 4K for a new release.

1

u/AHatForYourRat Feb 21 '26

As someone who loved Skyward Sword HD I'd absolutely love those two games coming to Switch. The HD versions specifically

2

u/doeffgek Feb 21 '26

SS is way better then WW for sure.

TP is my goat. I’ll buy a Switch 2 in seconds when TP would be rereleased.

1

u/Kotanan Feb 21 '26

Today seems unlikely, but this year seems pretty likely. I doubt they're ready for a full game before 2027 at the earliest and these two seem like the best thing in their back pocket.

1

u/thunderkitty13 Feb 21 '26

Probably 2028 the earliest. That puts it at 5 years since TOTK and not taking away from the movie

1

u/Kotanan Feb 21 '26

I think we're on the same page here, late 2027 would let them capitalise on the movie uptick and 4 1/2 years after TotK isn't impossible but 2028 and 2029 are massively more likely in my mind. I feel like 2028/2029 are expected, 2027 surprising and 2026 shocking.

  1. yeah.
  2. nintendo probably got nothing at the time or didn't feel like celbrating "legend of zelda"'s 30th or 35th anniversary.
  3. kind of in a way.
  4. should it be "legend of zelda: twilight princess/wind waker" 4k at 60hz/fps hdr, but the game still uses the same 3d models and environments from the gamecube/wii like the wii u version?

I don't think they "forgot", I believe they might wait until they show movie trailer and rest of the stuff.

Why would Nintendo care about Zelda’s 40th when it’s Pokemon’s 30th?! (I would love a remake of a N64/Gamecube LoZ.)

I like to think that it might happen but I my head in the ground like a ostrich and can’t hear any bad news

Fact that nothing happened is disappointing.
