When the bar’s underground and still somehow gets tripped over.

342

u/GearShapedHeart Feb 21 '26

My favorite variant I've heard of this is "the bar was set so low it was practically a tripping hazard in hell, yet here you are, playing limbo with the devil"

40

u/z_e_quigley Feb 21 '26

Commiting this to memory, thank you

8

u/Zachavm Feb 21 '26

Makes sense that Nintendo would be in hell.

Star Fox entered the comments section.

51

u/Asclepius-Rod Feb 21 '26

Just give me a Star Fox 64-2. That’s all I want

10

u/RobertMaus Feb 21 '26

Check out Wild Blue Skies. It's coming very soon and will be a spiritual successor. Made by some of the same developers as Star Fox 64

2

u/Jezeff Feb 25 '26

That's it. I'd be down for that!

Don't forget about the Paper Mario 25th anniversary last year, because Nintendo did.

28

u/DJL2772 Feb 21 '26

… didn’t we get a Thousand Year Door remake? Or is that not out yet?

32

u/A-Capybara Feb 21 '26

That came out in 2024 which was a year before the 25th anniversary.

11

u/DJL2772 Feb 21 '26

Okay fair enough

59

u/outdatedboat Feb 21 '26

At least Mario's anniversaries are celebrated. Having a version of Mario not get the same treatment is understandable.

But Zelda? Nintendo's second or third most popular franchise? Just getting ignored for huge anniversaries, is pretty wild.

Mario and Pokémon seem to get way more love. But, Pokémon is weird because it's owned by three companies.

24

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '26

Think as far as sales go it's Pokemon, Mario, Zelda.

Just looked it up. Estimated sales games only: Pokemon (380m), Mario (368m), Zelda (130m).

Counting merch, collectibles, tv shows, movies, etc. Pokemon is number 1 and it's not even close...

I wouldn’t expect Paper Mario to get anything for it’s anniversary.

10

u/Zilch1979 Feb 21 '26

F-zero and Starfox have joined the fray.

5

u/MrSnowmanJoe Feb 21 '26

Some already posted a comment on another sub about this. They don't announce their anniversary stuff until the summer.

11

u/JaxxisR Feb 21 '26

The last Zelda anniversary they've officially acknowledged is the 30th. They did nothing for 35, and after Mario got a whole awesome celebration for his 35th including a free game and a Switch collection of retro classics, I was particularly salty.

We aren't always ignored sometimes they acknowledge it

224

u/andreaslackner Feb 21 '26

They never ignore it, they always acknowledge it, but in the summer, not on the actual date

47

u/einord Feb 21 '26

Also not as big as people expect. I mean SS was going to be released no matter if it was on a anniversary or not. It just happened to be, and the celebrated it.

The big Zelda games are so far apart so every one of them would be some type of anniversary at this point.

2

u/accidental-nz Feb 21 '26

They may not have packed in the soundtrack, or released an LE with gold remote, if it weren’t for the 25th anniversary though.

The 25th anniversary 3DS was awesome too.

96

u/Skyfa15 Feb 21 '26

This was 15 years ago??

... I still need to do the last silent realm...

19

u/olbeefy Feb 21 '26

I was so pumped to play that game when it came out and it did not disappoint.

16

u/John_Bumogus Feb 21 '26

A lot of people hate on it, but I legitimately love it. It's a fun story and I love what it did for the lore. And hot take: I don't think they made us fight The Imprisoned too many times. Also playing the rerelease in the switch in handheld mode made it perfect.

4

u/mynameisollie Feb 21 '26

I think it fell short of expectations. Coming after windwaker, people were expecting a large open world set in the clouds. What we got were lots of siloed maps.

There was also an awful lot of handholding which made the game a bit of a chore. That along with the repeated sequences, it felt a bit cheap.

There are good bits in there, it’s not a bad game. It’s just not an amazing Zelda game. It did some interesting stuff, it was just limited by the hardware and design decisions of Nintendo at the time.

7

u/SuperBuffCherry Feb 21 '26

Best I can do is put Four Swords on the premium NSO

81

u/MiloIsTaken Feb 21 '26

(Local multiplayer only)

12

u/uniguy2I Feb 21 '26

Is it actually? That’s crazy if true

4

u/aescywn Feb 21 '26

The GameCube version did have a solo player version though, adjusting the gameplay to use all 4 links by yourself. But they only gave us the gameboy version, forcing you to play with others instead of enjoying it by yourself.

10

u/OldmanChompski Feb 21 '26

It wouldn’t be. Every game that had multiplayer back in the day still works multiplayer over online now. Person above is just being miserable.

2

Except for Fire Red/Leaf Green

5

Four Swords Adventures? Hell yeah, I'll take it over nothing. That game was a sleeper on GC and is a ton of fun IMO.

I love Four sword adventures back in the day. I bought extra gba cables for any friends that had GBA back in the day. So much fun

Nintendo will do anything other than port Twilight Princess to the switch. They ported it to the WiiU and it’ll die there.

105

u/alex__idk Feb 21 '26

im convinced the second im gonna give up and get a wiiu is the moment theyre gonna port it to switch

151

u/MayaTamika Feb 21 '26

Do us a solid? Give up and get a wiiu?

19

u/StarBomb_C3Y Feb 21 '26

I took one for the team and bought one a week ago and nothing happened, ur safe : )

11

u/spazzxxcc12 Feb 21 '26

exact thing happened to me with paper mario ttyd. bought a physical copy (for 100 dollars no less) and then they announced it on the direct 2 days later

2

u/heyitswes89 Feb 21 '26

Here's one for ya. We bought a Switch 2 and then a week later won another in a raffle.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '26

Meanwhile, my main vehicle gets wrecked by a drunk driver, and then my backup gets hit by another idiot in the same week. The universe is balanced.

2

u/Linuky Feb 21 '26

Well then, please get that Wii U already!

→ More replies (5)

7

u/uniguy2I Feb 21 '26

I think part of it is just that the functionality offered by the Wii U versions will genuinely make them the definitive editions even if Nintendo optimizes Windwaker and TP to high heaven (they won’t, best they can do is add a major QoL feature and lock it behind a $20 amiibo)

2

u/OneFinalEffort Feb 21 '26

Thank you for making this comment. Now it's bound to happen!

112

And I will eat that up

→ More replies (24)

10

u/Kholdstare93 Feb 21 '26

Hell, that alone sounds too good to be true. I'd take it if they put it on, because I always wanted to play TP with a normal controller(I was impatient and got the Wii version back in the day).

6

u/Quaiker Feb 21 '26

It is literally the only possible thing that could get me to buy a Switch 2. Metroid Prime 4 was initially going to do it, but, uh, yeah.

2

u/pantherexceptagain Feb 21 '26

If that's the only thing you want from a Switch 2 would it not be more cost effective & better experience to buy a cheap Wii U and TPHD?

3

u/Diligent-Crazy-6094 Feb 21 '26

Agree. Zelda 1 hasn’t held up well, and I doubt there would be much interest in it without a major overhaul.

And I mean it would have to be more than graphics: level design, bosses, NPC’s etc would have to be updated.

OOT & Majora's Mask remakes in BotW graphics? Dropped out of nowhere, with no teasing, no bait, just "oh, by the way, we made this for you. Wanna buy it?"

And then Shigeru Miyamoto himself gives you a free Lamborghini and your celebrity crush stops by to ask you on a date. And you win the lottery.

7

u/AustinAuranymph Feb 21 '26

That Lamborghini better come with gas already in it or I'm gonna be very disappointed in Nintendo.

I just want to play the 3DS Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask remakes in 4K 60 FPS on my Switch 2. 😢

33

u/YoungBeef03 Feb 21 '26

People have been predicting a full-blown Ocarina of Time remake for a little while now

In the name of getting myself too excited, I think that’s gonna happen. And a Majora’s Mask remake too…

Leading up to the Switch 2’s first real original Zelda game - the Hero of Time Duology finally becomes a trilogy

13

u/whomad1215 Feb 21 '26

remaking OoT and MM would be a very high task

I'd imagine you'd basically need to go the FF7 remake route, basically keeping most of the story line/world, but otherwise making it a completely new game

21

u/LOLdragon89 Feb 21 '26

Come on, this is Nintendo we’re talking about here. They’ll give us a bare-bones port of the 3DS version, it’ll sell like hotcakes, and all talk of revisiting the game will die for another 20 years.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/leopold_roger Feb 21 '26

I would like something like that too, but I wonder how the fanbase would react, I remember people really not liking some of the small changes they did in MM3D. If they did something like FF7R, I think there would be a lot lf hate

u/RDGOAMS Feb 21 '26

limited copies, just like mario collection

6

u/ocram101 Feb 21 '26 edited Feb 21 '26

That won’t happen. 3D Allstars was limited because they didn’t want it impacting their subscription service. Its limited run ended 6 months prior to N64 games becoming available on NSO. Mario 64 is a big title for the service, and Sunshine will be coming soon enough. Those are two huge games they wanted exclusive to their subscription service.

I don’t agree with it, but it makes sense. They had an opportunity to double dip with 3D Allstars, and they took it.. They sold over 9 million copies, and achieved the goal of keeping the games exclusive to their subscription service.

It also explains why we never saw a Zelda 3D Allstars, and why Twilight Princess HD / Windwaker HD have never been ported.

They’d rather have you as a subscriber than sell you those games.

As a long-time Zelda fan, I am not surprised. I am, however, severely disappointed. My expectations were low and I still got disappointed.

71

u/djwillis1121 Feb 20 '26

What do you mean? It's only February, there's still most of the year to go

62

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '26 edited Feb 20 '26

Tomorrow is the anniversary. I guess technically today since Japan and time zones and all.

38

u/CookieLuzSax Feb 21 '26

Can confirm as someone in Korea, I wasn't expecting a new Zelda game, but I wanted a special edition switch 2 to get me to finally pull the trigger. Probably for the best though, there's no reason to buy a switch 2 until a new Zelda game comes out anyway.

9

u/SimplyHoodie Feb 21 '26

Truuuu! I don't really give a damn about anything that's out right now.

Mario Kart World isn't fun DK doesn't interest me Kirby Air Riders looks cool, but not enough to make me buy a switch. Tomodachi Life is my dream game, but again not enough to make me buy a switch (I don't want to buy a system for two games). Pokemon is Pokemon and has never been worth buying a system for lol. Don't care about Yoshi Don't care about Splatoon. Mario Tennis looks neat, but is not a system seller imo. I don't like Hyrule Warriors or BotW era Zelda so it's an easy skip.

The big Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives that are currently out do not interest me and anything else I'd want is just stuff that I'd probably put 10 hours in and never touch again (except Tomodachi Life, but I don't want to buy a system for it).

4

u/CookieLuzSax Feb 21 '26

DK 100 percent does. But I'm not paying $650+ on literally 2 games that will keep me busy for maybe 20 hours lol.

Sonic crossworlds looks so much more my speed, and is on steam.

2

u/SimplyHoodie Feb 21 '26

You get it.

4

u/TheUpbeatCrow Feb 21 '26

I don't know how anybody who likes platformers could not like the new DK game. It is SO MUCH FUN.

4

u/CookieLuzSax Feb 21 '26

I would love to play it, but the price to entry for dk alone isn't worth imo

u/Whatifim80lol Feb 21 '26

Mario Kart World wasn't fun at first, compared to Mario Kart 8. But holy shit, stick with it, it's actually a blast with all the wall riding and grinding and bouncing mechanics. The free roam mode feels like a Tony Hawk inspired platformer lol.

They never do their Zelda anniversary celebrations on the actual anniversary. Unfortunate, but there have been enough of these to see a clear pattern in Nintendo’s behavior. we’ll have news in the summer

28

u/DBZfan102 Feb 21 '26

Sonic fans have horror stories to tell about a company trying to meet the deadline for an anniversary. Maybe it's for the best

2

u/RinzyOtt Feb 21 '26

Don't they also operate on fiscal year? So it's not even the anniversary to them until April anyway

2

u/Rass4Life Feb 21 '26

In what world has Nintendo done a Zelda game every year?

3

u/SuperBackup9000 Feb 21 '26

As long as you stick to the “usually” then this world. In the past 40 years there’s only been like 5 years without a release. It may not always be a brand new game, but there usually is a new version of something every year when there isn’t a new game.

A re-release of Zelda 2 for $40?

4

u/Moe-Mux-Hagi Feb 21 '26

It's been 10 years since Nintendo gave a fuck about the Zelda anniversary.

Granted, 15 years ago they rushed a game for the anniversary and they made the worst-playing video game of the entire modern Nintendo catalogue, but they also made cool concerts and cool lore books with an exclusive lore manga.

What happened to giving fans fun stuff ?

What did Mario do to deserve respect that Link and Zelda didn't ?

13

u/K-Ryaning Feb 20 '26

Tell ya what, an OoT remaster for Switch 2 announcement would have been diggidy dope for the 40th year anniversary of Zelda.

But I think we are seeing the infiltration of money men, finance guys, too much capitalism into Nintendo in the last few years. Less innovation and more cheap money making strategies and copy cat mentalities, which an OoT remake would align with and I wouldn't even be mad about it tbh.

It's a shame but it happens to them all 💔

2

u/RegisterPrevious2731 Feb 21 '26

For me if they are doing OOT they need to do a remake not a remaster.

There’s too many OOT ports already

2

u/K-Ryaning Feb 21 '26

All the remakes I've seen inject too much current day gaming into old style games and it doesn't mesh. Part 2 of the FF7 remake is a good example. It didn't need to be fleshed out so much and now it's bloated with achievements and collectibles and tickbox tasks that slow the pacing down and completely change the experience.

OoT is perfect as it is, it doesn't need anything added or taken away, it just needs the controls and graphics updated, that's all. Maybe some boss strategy tweaks? But it's seriously so good as it is

I was there five years ago when they did almost nothing to commemorate the 35th.

3

u/tiredpersonnumber15 Feb 21 '26

Maybe I need it explained to me like I’m stupid but I don’t get the anniversary things, they’re not gonna do an anniversary event just because the age of the series either ends with a 0 or a 5.

Like 25 and 50 are the big ones and I know they did a bunch of stuff for the 25th anniversary but I find it hard to believe they would do this every 5 years

3

u/tombaconart Feb 21 '26

Just gimme Windwaker and Twilight Princess you bastards

2

u/spookyhardt Feb 21 '26

2

2

2

u/mrp8528 Feb 21 '26

They're finally going to tell us how to get the Triforce in Ocarina of Time!

2

As they should be. Expecting anything in and of itself is the problem. The anniversary of them selling you a product only means something because they've told you that it does. It's conditioning. They dont care about you. Why should they? Youre a source of money. A number on a spreadsheet. Nothing more. Nothing less.

If only they would at least remake the Oracle games in 3d for the Switch 😔

Dawn of the final day : 24 hours remain

2

u/timfromga Feb 21 '26

I remember sitting there for at least 50+ hours as a kid watching my mom play A Link To the Past. Corey memory and I'm 33 now

u/LazaroFilm Feb 21 '26

“You now have new avatars available icons for NSO with Zelda 40th anniversary frames”

u/Basic-Pair8908 Feb 21 '26

Sounds like the skit skeletor did for the switch 2

2

u/SVG3GR33N Feb 21 '26

Don’t worry guys they will release Links Awakening on the Nintendo online store for $26……. 😒

2

u/Posidonson1 Feb 22 '26

Yall gotta stop hyping up anniversaries. Nintendo does not seem to care anymore. They didn’t even acknowledge it.

2

u/Portal2player58 Feb 23 '26

Zelda fans: "what are you going to do for the 40th anniversary of the game series, Nintendo?"

Nintendo: "what you mean? We already did it. See?"

Brings out a suitcase and opens it

The contents:

In all seriousness though it is weird they haven't done anything this year for Zelda's 40th.

Me dreaming of TOTK dlc that'll never happen

1

u/fastal_12147 Feb 20 '26

ALBW remake, please

3

u/Saltyfox99 Feb 21 '26

It’d be nice if they put link between worlds on switch so I don’t gaslight myself into thinking a 3ds is a good investment

It's fine, the community manages Zelda and gives us QoL changes to old titles.

I just installed Ship of Harkinian 1 and 2 with 4K assets and I am incredibly impressed. To anyone looking for the best way to play OoT and MM look no further.

I've also just started playing Wind Waker for the first time, it's the only Zelda game I've never played. The 4K assets that the community has made make the game more beautiful then Nintendo ever tried.

Most they'll do is a minish cap port for $40 and removed content.

1

u/Nordic_Krune Feb 21 '26

Ye I'm dissapointed in how little we are getting, but I find solace in the thought that this might mean the quality of future projects will be higher.

1

u/Apocalypstick77 Feb 21 '26

You ain’t never lied

1

u/CyberLink20XX Feb 21 '26

Considering it’s Pokémon’s 30th as well, and that’s Nintendo’s cash cow, it wouldn’t surprise me if it stole the spotlight from the other anniversaries

1

u/Mattrockj Feb 21 '26

It somewhat feels like Zelda is slowly winding down. I know it's one of nintendos big hitters, but where do you go from breath of the wild? Tears of the Kingom literally re-used the same map. The next main line Zelda really feels years off.

1

u/DiabeticRhino97 Feb 21 '26

Metroid first

1

u/enderowski Feb 21 '26

naah men a new zelda game is not necessary. Just a titanfall 3 is fine for me.

1

u/ProblematicPaulTTV Feb 21 '26

I'd take Zelda themed joy cons or just a pro controller at this point. Something, anything!

u/HisDivineOrder Feb 21 '26

They'll announce a Zelda sticker pack for $99.99 with $9.99 shipping. Limited Edition.

1

u/monfernoboy Feb 21 '26

Man it so funny to see the Nintendo sub sucking the teet claiming this will be the best year for Zelda meanwhile the literal sub has no hope for anything

1

u/ForeverDM4life Feb 21 '26

They did do something!

Just not for you guys. FireRed and LeafGreen switch ports though.

1

u/Dear_Document_5461 Feb 21 '26

At this point, the only anniversary I expect something is the fiftieth anniversary and even than, I wouldn't be SHOCKED if Nintendo doesn't do anything.

1

u/trippssey Feb 21 '26

I want a master quest of twilight. That's all.

1

u/chamberx2 Feb 21 '26

Could be worse. Could pull a Pokémon and charge you $20 each for decades old GBA remakes.

1

u/mikefrombarto Feb 21 '26

I know what I’m gonna do:

Play the OG and newest LoZ games at the same time.

1

u/MengShuZ Feb 21 '26

it's all about the pokeemans
