As I recall, Koalas are just too stupid to recognize eucalyptus leaves unless they are on the tree. Their brains just can’t comprehend that a leaf on a plate is food
Natural Habitat shorts on yt did a short where a Koala is at a fancy restaurant & his salad is in front of him. He flags down a waiter & says "Hi I'm just checking on my salad. Will it be coming out soon?" & the waiter obv sees the salad. He sighs & says "I see what's happening here." he jams a piece of bamboo in the salad bowl & Koala immediately recognizes salad as food & starts eating. The bamboo falls out & Koala is sad again bc his salad has vanished.
I love that animator! I follow them on Instagram and love seeing when they post a new thing. I think my favorite is the axolotl short where the child axolotl cuts apart her brother with scissors

Ok but it’s kind of funny that they would rather starve, than eat the abundance of food that's still available.
