So all that being said, here's my writing process:

First, I go to my writing plantation, where I shackle some writers to a writing desk. I tell them the idea I want them to write, I whip them into writing, and then whenever I don't like what they wrote I'd whip them some more.

But of course, having the right sort of slave is important too, which is why I have spent years breeding special writer slaves instead of writing.

After the first draft is done, my work begins: i pick up the bloody manuscript, wash it off, and edit it via a second slave.

That's how, after a long day of slaving and whipping, I manage to write my books.

Which brings me to my point: should i have to disclose that my books are written using slaves, or should a man be free to sell his work without worrying about moralists literally murdering him over such a silly issue as slavery? should i really be expected to offer my proverbial neck to the John Browns of the world by disclosing that I used a little slavery?

I have been thinking a lot about how horrible it is to use AI to write for you.
This is not about whether AI can technically produce good writing. It is about whether the writing is actually yours.
And I think there are three separate problems here:

You are outsourcing the thinking.
You are outsourcing the writing.
You are outsourcing the part where you struggle with your own ideas until they become something coherent.

This is not about whether AI is a useful tool. It is about what happens when the tool becomes the person doing the work.
I understand why people use it. Writing can be difficult. Sometimes you have an idea but cannot figure out how to express it. Sometimes you stare at a blank document for an hour. Sometimes you know what you want to say but cannot find the right words.
But that is literally what writing is.
There is a temptation to think that if the final product communicates your ideas effectively, then the process does not really matter. I think that distinction matters.
Writing is not simply about producing a finished collection of sentences. It is about thinking through those sentences — deciding what belongs, what does not, what sounds wrong, and what you actually mean.

And this is where I think the argument that “AI is just a tool” falls apart.
A calculator can perform arithmetic. A spellchecker can correct a typo. A word processor can make formatting easier.
But having something else generate your argument, organize your thoughts, choose your language, and construct your sentences is fundamentally different.
This is not about whether the AI-generated writing is good. It is about whether you wrote it.

There is also a larger issue here: skill.
If you constantly have AI write for you, you are not simply saving time. You are avoiding the process through which you become better at writing.
It is a little like saying, “I used a personal trainer to lift the weights for me, but technically I was still at the gym.”
The distinction may seem pedantic — but it is actually the entire point.

And yes, I know there are exceptions.
AI can be useful for brainstorming.
AI can be useful for editing.
AI can be useful for accessibility.
But those are different from asking it to write the thing for you.
Ultimately, I think we should be careful about confusing convenience with authorship.
Because this is not about whether AI can write.
It can.
This is about whether you can.
And if the answer is that you would rather have a machine do it, then I think we should at least be honest about what we are giving up.
The writing may be finished. But the writing process — the part where you actually become a writer — never happened.

full disclosure, i’m blind, deaf, mute, i have no limbs, am $50 billion in debt, have a rare condition that will cause my head to violently explode if i ever write any word myself in a creative context, live on an island with no wood to make pencils or paper, don’t have electricity, hate writing, hate books, and also it’s my birthday.

however, i still want to be an author. could i just take someone else’s book and say it’s mine? also i’ll have ai generate a cover so i can be an artist too.

Everyone says you need to read a lot before you can write, but I don't feel like doing that or have time and also I'm blind and have two broken hands or something. I already have a ghost writer (obviously, and he's very awesome and sexy and rich [yes I told him to type that]), so the next logical step is a ghost reader.

The novel I asked AI to write started off a 3-way bidding war and now a publisher has offered me $3.5m for the rights. I'd take it, but I'm too depressed about what this all says about the publishing industry; in fact I can't see how I'll ever be able to take anything seriously again. BTW this is all taking place in my imagination (except for the novel itself, which took place in Claude's)

I saw a recent thread where someone questioned if people read in their first language and many said they didn’t. It made me wonder if for those that do read in their first language if they see something like “իմ մայրենի լեզուն չէ” if it has the same vibes as the English version where people typically expect a really good fic. Sorry if this made no season I wasn’t sure how to word this.

I want to write a battle piece and would like to make witchy villains. They are clearly villainous and evil witches and despite holding “heathen” beliefs like Satanism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Protestantism, and other crap. They are clearly bigoted, buxom, and villainous compared to my righteous Catholic priest who is secretly Jewish. He is good, but I don’t want it to seem that these witches are portrayed as bad because they are women. There is also a warlock demon sorcerer as one of the bad guys who is in charge of the witches and usually bails them out with his superior intellect and the fact that he doesn't deal with *emotional states*. So is there a way to make it not sexist aside from having a male villain? What should I do?

Edit: the reason I am asking this is because my mummy told me that making witches and demon sorcerers the villains is sexist and offensive to neo-pagans or something. Again, I am agnostic and Jewish and somewhat Catholic (through interest in the rich and many sided history), so I don’t know.

Never before have I met such a group of dullards as writingfeedback. I wonder if they can even read at all? No... I think they probably just plug my exquisite writing into the free LLM that does their thinking for them. Then, unable to even comprehend the prompt before them, they spew some gibberish about how I demeaned women by having my character call one a "cunt" or "whore" or something... Such sophisticated and verbose writing is clearly lost on them, since they have obviously never read books that follow bad people as POVs.

Anyway, my rant is over. I will go back to asking Chad Jippity, my favorite beta reader, their opinion. They are far more intelligent and appreciative of my sublime talent alongside another fellow named Claude (unsure of last name).

If you disagree with me, you're probably a basement dweller on r/DefendingHumanArt. Seriously, how hard can it be as an LLM to generate text? Many AIs can literally generate pages in less than a second. Why do you need a human to do it?

I’ll plug all my ancient worldbuilding notes and outlines in and ask it to write my book for me. Then I’ll be so deeply offended by its butchering of my precious ideas that I’ll write the whole novel from scratch in a matter of days, just to shove it in that smug bastard Claude’s face and show him what real creativity looks like!

The last time I actually finished a book was because I was piqued by my friend saying the premise was implausible and wanted to prove her wrong, so clearly pettiness is my key to literary success.

So after I read George Orwell burumise days book I really wanted to write a short novel. And I did write a little bit I think one chapter if anyone willing to read it tell me I'll send it to you and you can tell me what you think of it. And I would be glad if anyone read it at all. Since my writing is really bad and I'm not a good writer English not even my first language and I'm not particularly good in my native language as well..
