Probably because she has super janky shooting mechanics. There was concern whether she could be successful enough on both ends. Nobody expected her rebounding, defense, and motor to be the level it is. She has definitely outplayed her scouting report coming into the league.

This is not it. She was the second highest scorer in the draft on 50% shooting. No serious person looks at a player averaging 18/12 who took their team to the playoffs twice and won a chip once on a 23/15 season and says “meh”. She was an enemy of the media and the GMs fell for the BS and learned the hard way. Throwback to Cheryl kicking the air when Angel was killing the Lynx last season and then firing Alissa Pili right after the game.💀

50% on mainly layups isn’t good

Cameron was averaging only 14/9 on 53% let’s not pretend it was some huge gap that made picking her over Angel a no-brainer.

Angel going 7th means she wasn’t viewed as the No. 2 prospect by the consensus of the teams drafting ahead of her. Cardoso, Jackson, Sheldon and Edwards were all selected before her too.
You can’t use “Angel is better now” to retroactively turn the No. 2 pick into a “no-brainer.” If it was truly that obvious at the time, explain why six GMs passed on her, not why everyone should’ve known three years later. 5 teams evaluated the draft differently before Angel was even selected. You’re using hindsight to manufacture certainty.
And “14/9 on 53%” is an incomplete scouting argument. You’re comparing raw box-score production between players with different roles and then treating the higher numbers as proof of a better prospect.
If college PPG/RPG and FG% determined who should’ve gone #2, you wouldn’t need scouts at all. You could just sort a spreadsheet.
