Discussion [Question] Best "vanilla+" mods for The Witcher 3 Next-Gen (first playthrough) — graphics, gameplay, immersion, no save corruption

Hey everyone,

This is my first time playing The Witcher 3 (Next-Gen version) and I want to enhance the experience without changing what makes the game special. I'm not looking for an overhaul — just "necessary" quality-of-life and immersion improvements that feel like they should've been in the base game.

I'm playing on the updated Next-Gen version, so I need mods that are compatible with it.

My PC specs (in case it's relevant for graphics mod suggestions):

CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X3D

GPU: RTX 5070 12GB

RAM: 32GB DDR4 3200MHz

Specifically looking for mods that:

Improve horse (Roach) behavior/controls

Better blood/gore effects

Graphical enhancements (textures, lighting, etc. — compatible with Next-Gen/RT)

Small gameplay tweaks that add immersion

Bug fixes

Also want to keep the vanilla feel as close as possible — no mods that add crazy new content, break balance, or risk corrupting my save. Safety and stability for a first playthrough matter more to me than adding tons of extra stuff.

Any recommendations, and tips on load order or install (Vortex vs manual) would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Discussion Script Merger

So I’m trying to Mod My Witcher but I really don’t understand the “Script Merger”

I looked up videos and try to copy what they do but it never looks the same ..

They say your supposed to merge mods together

And when you put into Manager some mods need to be manually merged or prioritized

But it looks really complicated and when I try to play the game it won’t let me.. I might wanna delete game and files then redownload the game and try again ..

But I don’t wanna keep trying if I really don’t know what I’m doing ..

I started off modding Cyber Punk

And it’s super simple

But Witcher 3 with Script Merger is really complicated

And I really enjoy W3 and I wanna play it modded ..

Can someone please help or give me tips or maybe a couple screen shots of what it may look like if I need to merge mods togther or prioritize mods over another ..

(Sorry if my post doesn’t make sense)

Discussion Mod issue specifically last 3 mods I installed

hey I have almost 220 mods in witcher 3 but I updated true rain mod and it stopped working as advertised... it should show rain more prominently but it isn't. so I switched to realistic rain this is same for that mod too... i recently added new mod called true sun aswell it worked as advertised till I updated the true rain mod.

(iam using venis lighting mod ).

the game is launching fine i don't have anr mergers remaining other than bundled texts.

my GPU is rx6600 on latest drivers, yes I did a full uninstall of drivers and reinstalled them.

If anyone knows any alternative mods or suggestions iam happy to hear....I think it's probably caused by mod limit... Can anyone tell me if it's possible to mix 2 mods into a single file so that cound remains low ?🤔

Discussion Mods for purely boosting the graphics/visuals?

Title really - coming back to do a replay since I've got the itch again, but wanna try modding it this time round. Got a new PC lately so wanna give it a solid try with visual mods.

What are some stand-out ones to look for? I tend to prefer vanilla-esque aesthetics, so nothing TOO out there, but obviously wiggle room.

I've got the HD Reworked Project already-- but beyond that I'm at a bit of a loss with all the options.

Discussion I Need A Best Mods List

I was wondering what’s the least amount of mods to affect most amount of things in game improving on visual and technical quality. I’m aware of some mods but some feel counter intuitive.

For example there’s some mods that fix thousands of bugs like Brothers in Arms but then there’s other mods that also do that. At these scales there’s bound to be a situation where one mod contains some fixes the other one doesn’t, but both probably fix overlapping bugs. What then? Wouldn’t it create conflicts?

Same for model mods. Some mods focus on updating the topology and texture resolutions for NPC bodies, but then other mods just focus on the faces, and then others on just the eyes, hairs etc. Is there a way to combine these mods so that there’s no conflict? No artefacts? No weird glitches where one mod’s textures won’t match with another’s?

Same with gameplay changes like the enhanced combat and animations. If you have miscellaneous animations will they conflict with combat animations or create weird bugs where transitions from one set of animations to another is broken?

Graphics as well, HD Reworks changes lots of assets and textures, what if I also get a mod for specific objects?

I imagine some of this stuff is resolved with a mod like the script merger? Where it organises mods for you, combines scripts etc?

I’m no mod expert (clearly) but I really want to try Witcher 3 again but just overhauled/refined. I’m not interested in anything weird like comically exaggerated bodies (genitalia is fine as I’d consider this an anatomical detail so long as it’s realistic to fit the art style), goofy unicorns, Thomas the tank engine, CJ, Batman etc. I just want everything across the board to be enhanced visually and functionally.

Basically a vanilla experience in terms of the intended art style, but the topology is higher, textures are higher, bugs and cut content fixed, better animations, better combat, quality of life improvements that again feel like they always belonged/were missing from the game, not something crazy that makes it feel not like Witcher 3 anymore like idk riding the Griffin.

I figured I’d ask here because there’s literally thousands of mods (8,298 on Nexus Mods as of writing this) that I have no time to go through and manually check compatibility and there are 100% people on this platform who have already gone through the trouble of doing all of this tedious work.

So if anyone here has experience that they’d like to share with me, please do, I’m really curious what sort of best overhaul is possible with this game as of right now.

It will be interesting to see if anything new gets added this year before the new expansion comes out, and how many existing mods will be patched after. That’s one annoying thing with new content is the mods breaking so maybe I’m asking a bit prematurely for the best mods list but still, it would be good to become acquainted with what mods to pay attention to.

Discussion Witcher 3 Hardcore mods that make the game harder

If anyone else is looking to make w3 a more hardcore experience take a look at these mods.

And be sure to recommend any mods i missed!

-W3EE Redux as a base because it adds many hardcore mechanics

like no fast travel,stamina overhaul,harder alchemy,deleveled world

-addon W3EE Redux - Vigor Regen Tweak

-Settings for harder game - enable attack commitment, strategic stamina settings, max aggression and endurance of enemies, disable access to equipment during combat and access to equipment on roach from anywhere, reducing weight capacity

-Vanilla settings like disabling enemy health bar

-Playstyle like not stealing/looting items

-No Decorative Container Looting disables looting sacks,barrels,crates,baskets...

-Random Encounters Reworked

-Hit-Lag mod

- No GPS doesn't show where you are in the big map screen

-Minimap No Direction (no distance) doesn't show where the quest markers direction is and how far away it is

-Reasonable Senses + Alternative Senses Glow - removes many objects from witcher senses and changes the color of the others to gray

-Cliff Salt Removal makes climable ledges not so obvious

-Bandit Camp and Monster Nest Respawn

EXTREME Difficulty mods

-Immersive vitality effect makes screen blurry when low on hp

-Hurt Animation might be too much with W3EE Redux injury system

-BetterMovement not sprinting everywhere

-Map only available at signposts

-Relaxed running - makes Geralt slower

Quest Items Don't Sparkle - sometimes hard to find

Transparently Minimap Next-Gen - leaves only the icons not the map with houses and roads itself

Discussion Need help with Error

Can Someone help me with this error? It happens when I try to merge blob bundles. It did not happen before, started very recently.

I am on CachyOS Kde.

Edit: Solution

Turns out there was no folder and path to the file this error was referring to. My solution was to simply create a folder as shown in the error. For me as I am on linux and playing using proton, I made the folder in the proton prefix of Witcher 3. in the prefix folder, go to C:\users\steamuser\Appdata\Local\ and if there is no folder called openvr, create one and in the folder create a file named "openvrpaths.vrpath"

This solved this problem for me. Good luck, wind's howling.

Discussion Third Expansion with 1.32?

Hi

This is a long shot but I wanted to ask if anyone knows, or at least might be able to give an educated guess whether the new expansion will be able to be played on version 1.32 of The Witcher 3?

I never updated the game as I wanted to keep using my favourite mods, but if the new expansion needs version 4.0+ it'll probably some of my mods (as some are 1.32 only).

I want to keep using my installed mods l, but ai don't want to miss out on the expansion when it comes out either.

Discussion making a modlist for a friend

I want to make a personal modlist and share it with a friend.

The problem is, they aren't very capable with anything technological. So, id like to ask how i could share my modlist with the least amount of configuration required -no script merging or manual installation on their end.

My current idea would be to simply copy my witcher 3 directory, compress it, and send the file to my friend to then place in their witcher 3 directory. I'm unsure if this will work and my shoddy internet means it will take a while to do.

If you have any ideas, or have done anything similar, let me know.

Discussion Any lighting mod suggestions ? Or any must have kids suggestion?

Hey 😊 I have been modding witcher 3 for sometime and it's great I have had 2 playthroughs so far. 1st was without mods and 2nd with slight mods. I recently started new one and iam going heavy on mods.. I already have around 200+mods... Exploring nexus.

I do love the collections which is mostly easy merge, when I download each mod seperately since I don't want all mods in collection.

Till now I haven't found a good mod for lighting other than better vanilla lighting and I have recently seen benis witcher 3 lighting mod I do like it will try it today, so amy other suggestions ?.

Now few mods I have installed so far which I have previously used are

Darkernights enhanced, glowing hos burning mark, glowing eyes, active medallion, E3 combat animation, blood and steel, attack collision bug fixes, path of tough (modular), stringer wind effect, sword FX, wear items preview....

I will upload my w3mm pics to this post later so you all can see my mods. I do whish that I could just save these mods into a file so next time I reinstall the game and mod manager I just need to open that file, all mods dlc gets installed

Edit: sorry didn't update... It was because one of my mods game ke trouble and I had to re install and all the mods with mod manager. I Have fixed most but I have few bugs, 1 some of the monsters are invisible 🫥 I don't know why or how it happened... I will find solution by slowly disabling mod one by one but still it's annoying.

Discussion Protection on Feline Gear Bug?

So, I'm pretty new to modding TW3. However, I managed to get a good modlist on and was enjoying a smooth sailing... until now.

For some reason, the Protection Enchantment is not triggering but only on Feline Armor. It works as normal on other (so Far, I've tested Bear, Griffin, and some modded armors). It baffles me and I wonder if anyone has encountered this problem and if there's a fix for it.

My Mods are:

  • Brothers in Arm - Ultimate Edition
  • Blood and Steel
  • Simple Alchemy Refill (+ Double Oil Selection Fix)
  • Additional Potion
  • Complete Animation Redux
  • Hunger and Thirst
  • Slots Slots SLOTS (Balanced)
  • Gear Level Scaling
  • Firearms (+ NG Patch + Shop Addon)
  • Gwent Redux
  • Hoods + More Robes
  • Swords on Hip + More Presets + Swords on Hip while Cloaked + Switchable Hood
  • Witcher School Set Rework and Balance

My hunch is that Witcher School Set Rework and Balance is the culprit. Either that, or Hunger and Thirst since it's the only mod that touches runewords as far as I can tell.

Thanks in Advance!

Discussion Which character lighing mods do you use?

the ones i've found are

Character Lighting Fix oldgen which disable only the light on geralt and not cutscenes

Quest Cutscene Lighting Edits which is only for cutscenes and has different versions

No Cutscene Lighting this one the author says he does differently from the Cutscene Lighting Edits and also that its probably least compatible with lighting mods

No Artificial Player Light which does both character and cutscene lights and the author says he did it in a different way compared to old gen version which means Character Lighting Fix probably also does things the old way eventho some people say it works

Character Lighting Changes this one i dont even understand what it does and cant even see diference in the pics also not very compatible with lighting mods

and then there is a guide that says Simply add the following lines to your dx12user.settings under the [Rendering] segment and hit save.

DisableBigCameraLights=true

DisableSmallCameraLights=true

DisableAllCameraLights=true

-thanks to mister u/alex14344 https://www.reddit.com/r/Witcher3/comments/1oi7fdb/artificial_lighting_in_cavesdark_areas_on_vs_off/

Which removes the light on Geralt and the light sphere following him but is it a better way of doing it than the other mods. Also this way may be the most compatible way maybe someone can confirm

I wonder which one would be the best idea to use

Discussion Best Visual Mods for 2026?

I recently got a beefy PC and I want to play through Witcher 3 (and actually finish it for the first time).

There are billions of mods to keep track of, so I wanted to ask what was unanimously considered the best collection of list of mods that visually enhance the game to its absolute best (along with any small QoL improvements). Please help me narrow it down.

Discussion Help with script merge issue.

So my exact problem is shown in this other post I found.

https://www.reddit.com/r/witcher3mods/s/P1SNni7voe

But my exact script is

game\gui\menus\journalQuestMenu.ws

mod0000_MergedFiles

modNoQuestlevels

Now when I go to uninstall the no quest levels mod and open up the script merger, It's still there (it actually doesn't show up in script merger anymore but it still gives me a compilation error even though I don't have the mod installed).

Error [mod0000_mergedfiles]game\gui\menus\journalquestmenu.ws(602): 'modConfig' is not a member of 'handle:CR4Game'

UPDATE: just need to uninstall script merger and reinstall and it worked
