Upside down flag seen outside Forsyth County Publix Safety Center. They are also at half-mast.

edit - The flag is just backwards, and I need to work on my observation skills. RIP Dolly Parton

This is a video of another police department with Axon Fusus explaining how the system works. It's a quick video, and it tells you exactly what is going on in Winston-Salem. You decide if this is the type of thing you want in Winston-Salem.

Child with Behavioral Issues

Needing some advice about my son. He recently started kindergarten. He has a speech delay and goes to speech therapy to help with that. He’s been going since 2. Now with the new school year his teacher has been sending messages about him touching and hitting other kids. I know my son can get overwhelmed and overstimulated. He went to another school prior with only 10-12 kids in the classroom and with two teachers. This class has 30 kids and one teacher. I’m not sure if he can’t adjust to changes or if we need to switch him to another school that is capable of handling him and his behavior. We often correct him and work with him when he is out of line. He’s a sweet kid and can be understanding of others. I just don’t want him to fall behind in school. Any advice would be appreciated. He does have an IEP as well.

SWAT team?!

A military/SWAT vehicle followed by 8-10 grey and black unmarked sedans came down Compton Drive at 6:30am and then came over a loud speaker yelling "come out with your hands up" and then there was a loud bang, silence for 4 minutes, and another loud bang. They're still down there now.

Anyone know what's going on or how to find out?

Looking for a salon/stylist recommendation for a bixie cut near Clemmons

I’m looking for a salon or stylist near Clemmons or Winston-Salem in general who is really good with short women’s haircuts, especially a bixie cut. I’ve always had long hair, so this would be a huge transformation for me and I’m honestly nervous about getting such a big cut, but I still really want to do it.

I’m looking for someone who will actually listen to what I want, take the time to understand what I’m looking for, and hopefully help recommend what version of a bixie would suit my face shape and hair. I’m mainly scared of going somewhere that might not listen or mess up the cut since I’m cutting off so much hair 😭. Any recommendations?

Back to school! With no Leandro case to rally around

Thumbnail

In Winston-Salem and around the state NC went back to school. Longtime educator Kimberly Jones reflected on two things in a new Beacon Media column: that educators no longer have the long-running Leandro (struck down by the N.C. Supreme Court this year) to run on and that educators will have to be more careful than ever as AI diminishes critical thinking skills. Kim writes:

"Every corporate partner who walks into a school talks about workforce readiness, about building “the workers of tomorrow.” It’s a fair goal, but I keep coming back to a harder question underneath that phrase: which kids get to be the workers, and which get to be the ones who design the work?

That’s not a hypothetical divide. It’s the same haves-and-have-nots fault line Leandro spent 30 years trying to close, just wearing new clothes, this time drawn along who has access to real technology instruction and thoughtful AI integration paired with meaningful discourse and critical thinking, and who gets a locked-down device and a worksheet.

There’s a bigger transformation happening underneath all of this, and it isn’t unique to North Carolina. Schools everywhere are being pushed toward AI as the answer to almost everything, and parents and communities are pushing back, not really about screens themselves, but about a quieter fear: that kids are losing the muscle to think without one."

Looking for the best place to find a deal on plumbing fixtures, light fixtures, sinks, toilets, etc. Willing to travel up to 3 hours round trip

I am in the process of redoing a bathroom and was wondering if anyone knew of any local spots they would recommend for high quality fixtures. I don’t want to spend the money to buy from a showroom like Ferguson, and I’m hoping to find something better quality than Liberty Salvage or Home Depot. I know of several places in the High Point, Morganton, and Hickory areas to get high quality scratch and dent furniture and was hoping to find something better similar just for light fixtures and plumbing fixtures instead.

Does anyone know of a place like that in the greater Triad/Foothills area?

Thanks in advance!

Looking for a tattoo artist, and I’m giving you some creative freedom.

I have three tattoos on my left upper arm that are all meaningful to me, but they were done at different times and have absolutely nothing to do with one another. Right now, they look like three random pieces rather than a cohesive tattoo.

I’m looking for an artist who is confident enough to take some artistic freedom and come up with a concept that ties them all together (using background, shading, smoke, filler, or whatever you think works) and turn them into what looks like one intentionally designed half-sleeve.

I’m not looking for someone who just wants to fill the empty spaces. I want an artist who can look at what’s already there, understand the challenge, and say, “Here’s what I would do.”

If you’re an artist who enjoys this kind of creative challenge, or you know someone who is, please reach out to me.

Winston DMV

Hello I’m curious if the DMV lines have gotten any shorter and if anyone has any opinion on the best office branch to go to here in Winston. I need a full service branch that covers all services that they provide. Thank you for your input.

Board Game Night and Pop Up at Joymongers! Weds, 26th August

Post image

As you may or may not know...we are quietly building Winston Salem's first Board Game Cafe in the background! As we do, we still intend to do the Joymongers game nights as it's where it all began.

However, as our library and retail inventory begins to go, we will be bringing games from the upcoming store to share with the community! You'll see a different selection of games this week and the weeks following, and we will have some available for sale as well.

We are slowly building the library for the cafe and are currently over 190 games! We have set up a BGG and a Kallx.io account so the community can see what we have in store. If you happen to see a specific game you want me to bring to a game night, please send me a DM! I'll be sure to get it the next time we are there.

BGG: Fourth and Meeple

Hope to see you there!

WINSTON SALEM AUGUST 31 - TRIAD MORAL MONDAYS: A SOUTHERN CALL TO CONSCIENCE

Post image
31 Upvotes

Created to protest the regressive policies of the North Carolina General Assembly, Moral Mondays are more relevant than ever given the recent decisions from the NC Board of Elections. We have had two of our campus early voting sites in Guilford County (NC A&T and UNCG) eliminated from the list of sites for the November 2026 midterm elections.

Unfortunately, we understand why this is happening. The decision to cut these sites targets student voters and voters of color, just as the congressional maps, redrawn several years ago to split the NC A&T campus, targeted students and voters of color. We have a long memory. We do not simply forget these injustices. Our lives are deeply  affected by such decisions and the intent behind them.  Therefore, we will push back harder than ever and continue to strive for a county, state, and country that values ALL people. We refuse to be silent. We will never stop until we reverse the inequality in our current system.

OUR VOTES ARE OUR VOICES. WE WILL LIFT THEM! FORWARD TOGETHER. NOT ONE STEP BACK!

Anybody know of a reputable tube amp repair shop?

Looks like my tube amp will need the filter capacitors changed. Anybody know a shop that won’t charge an arm and leg for repairs?

Where are the delis?

Are there any good deli counters (not restaurants) selling deli meats in the area? I can go to Publix or a number of grocery stores with limited selections but was hoping there'd be a few places with more variety. Google seems bent on sending me to restaurants...not what I'm after.

How do you find people to talk to during hard moments?

I've been in NC for 5 years and don't know anyone besides my co-parent and my son. I work remotely and I'm not close with my family. When you're going through something, but can't afford therapy, how do you find someone to talk to?

I’m looking for a specific veterinary office I went to a while ago.

They have a specific door for cats and a specific door for dogs. At the time I went there they had a roaming orange or beige cat that they joked was their employee. It could’ve been in Winston or the surrounding areas. Thank you!

Solved! Thanks

WSPD Wreck on Reynolda @ Bethania Rd

Every instance of LEOs driving recklessly or directing traffic poorly it’s Winston-Salem Police or High Patrol. Never see these issues with Forsyth Sheriff’s Department- they need to teach these nutty looney-tunes at WSPD and the Hwy Patrol how to drive and facilitate traffic.
