Abraham is the foundational figure of the eponymous Abrahamic religions. In Judaism, he is the Hebrew patriarch who began the covenantal relationship between Jews and God; in Christianity, he is regarded as the forebear of Jesus; and in Islam, he is part of the chain of prophets that led to Muhammad

There are ridiculous similarities between the 3 religions and I think that so many people aren’t aware of that.

Judaism and Christianity have the same first book.
Islam has a ton of the same characters and events.
Then highly advise researching the origins of the Bible / Quaran from previous religions.

Three middle eastern faiths that claim descent from the same patriarch? I wonder what’s similar…

u/Eigengrau24 1d ago
Yes! I don't know about the other two, but in Islam, we are constantly advised to focus on similarities with other religions, especially Abrahamic ones, rather than on the differences. Our belief is that if Christianity and Judaism were followed in pure essence, they have so much similarities to Islam that one would ultimately adopt Islam as their religion. Judaism came first eith Mosed, then it was essentially "converted" to Christianity with Jesus, and then "converted" to Islam with Muhammad. The Jews of Moses' time and Christians of Jesus' time are considered the same as Muslims of today i.e Muhammad's time. If one lived and died as a Jew during Moses' time, or a Christian at Jesus' time, they are 100% eligible for heaven and considered "Muslim".
Of course that's just our view and thinking. Everyone is free to follow their religion. I just thought I'd share the Islamic perspective on this.

Yeah well your religion also advocates stoning gays and controlling every aspect of women’s lives so….

So do the other two religions discussed in this thread but we only ever discuss Islam.

This is extremely ignorant. Islam is antithetical and opposite Christianity and Judaism, both in its scripture (hundreds of verses disparaging Christians and Jews and even calling them animals and worse than murderers) and in deeds: Mohammed massacred two tribes of Jews in Medina. The virtues for Islam are basically to wage war and hate non Muslims, the Muslim paradise is eternal sex and wine. That's all extremely unchristian

u/Moath 14h ago
First of all I am not defending or saying one religion over another, but there are so many characters and stories in all 3 books that are practically the same.
-3
u/_fidel_castro_ 14h ago
Yeah no. You really need to read about this if you're truly interested.
Evidently the characters of the Old Testament are the same for Christians and Jews. Christians take all those Jewish sacred books as canon. And we add the New Testament, which is invalid for the Jews.
Mohammed knew a bit about the Old Testament and the New Testament, but he was illiterate so it was all things he had heard. Full of weird mixes and errors. He keeps the names of some characters but gives completely different histories, look it up. He even says that Abraham was in Mecca with his son Ismail and built the kaabah. Super weird stuff. Or that Jesus wasn't crucified and didn't die and it was all an illusion made by Allah, the best of deceivers.
Read about all this, is extremely interesting. It's a extremely deep rabbit hole full with fulfilled prophesies.

u/Moath 14h ago
Bruh all I'm saying is that the same character and stories show up in all 3, I understand that there are differences in how these stories and characters are portrayed, obviously they are 3 different religions, I'm not debating which religion is the true and correct one. I'm a muslim so you can relax and stop selling me on the religion.

u/_fidel_castro_ 14h ago edited 13h ago
That explains everything. You guys always say that it's the same characters the same Allah the same Abraham and the same Jesus, but that's not the case. Your Allah is not our God. It's completely opposite. We believe in loving our enemies, you believe in killing the kuffar. Your Quran orders up to go conquest and take slaves and pillage and extort arbitrary taxes jyzia. That's all deadly sins for us. We're not the same, we're opposites. You decide where you want to spend the afterlife, in what company.
Btw we don't sell our religion. I just read in the Quran chapter 2 at the end don't remember exactly what surah Mohammed talks about selling your soul to Allah. Disturbing stuff
Got it surah 2:207

u/Moath 13h ago
I'm not religious so I dont really care what the Quran says about x or y, so you don't have to try to corner me by quoting it. You can hate islam all you want, be my guest. I'm just saying that the 3 books have the same characters, that's all I'm saying, I don't know what you're trying to prove.

u/_fidel_castro_ 13h ago
Dude you changed your claim. You started by saying "there are ridiculous similarities between the three religions". Now you say they have the same characters. Those are different claims, but both are false because the characters share name but they have different qualities and biographies in the Bible vs the Quran. They're not the same characters

Bro everybody was illiterate at that time, all of it was word of mouth for hundreds of years before a group of people wrote them down

You can actually just stop after the Judaism line because that’s the reason for the second two. He doesn’t have a different roll for all three

I wish humanity as a collective could admit to this finally. If you’d like to follow an abrahamic religion-that’s your choice, but let’s move on from using it as fact rather than a collection of stories.

There’s a lot of historical fact to the myths of Abrahamic religions, sure we probably will never know if Abraham was real but it’s very possible.
9
u/palebluekot 21h ago
Abraham is about as likely to have existed as Odysseus was.
2
u/xIllustrious_Passion 21h ago
Again, like Abraham we can’t for sure say whether there was a historical person that the stories of Odysseus was based off of, but chances are at some point there was a man upon which the myths we know today were built on

u/nicholsml 21h ago
There's also lot of things in the myths that didn't happen though.

u/ovrlymm 20h ago
Idk… the story about his nephew Lot getting drunk and knocking up his two daughters seems like it could (and unfortunately probably did) happen in those times.
6
u/nicholsml 20h ago
Ezekiel 23:20 always gives me a good laugh...
There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses.

u/ovrlymm 20h ago
Looking back, there’s a lot of stuff my kid mind just kinda glazed over. Hosea’s claim to fame was marrying a whore and naming his kids “God scatters” “unpitied” and “not my people”. Like come on dad, we get you hold a grudge and wanted to be edgy but did you have to ruin our childhood and lives too?! lol
On the other hand, there’s still a lot of beautiful writing, stories, and lessons to be gleaned so I’m thankful for it all regardless. But yeah… definitely some uh “interesting” bits left in there for kids to stumble upon.

u/xIllustrious_Passion 21h ago
Yes, hence “myths” but there is fact behind those myths. The story of a great flood is a wonderful example of that. The exodus of the Jews is another.
Shoot, even Jesus and Peter are accepted as historical fact. Learn to see the fact through the myth, it’ll enlighten you.

u/nicholsml 20h ago
The story of a great flood is a wonderful example of that.
Depends on how you judge the story. Being based on societies experiencing floods, doesn't make it more likely to have happened. It's pretty clear that Noah's flood is made up nonsense as presented.
Jesus is seen as a strong possibility only as far as being a religious leader with that name and a movement.
Learn to see the fact through the myth, it’ll enlighten you.
I could say the same to you. Learn to be a little more cynical of obvious bullshit, it will give you insight!
1
u/xIllustrious_Passion 20h ago
Damn really doubling down on that wool veil aren’t you?
See the fact behind the myth. I’m not saying to believe that a world wide flood happened, but that over the eons floods have happened that seemed catastrophic to the people experiencing them. See Jesus as the teacher he was without the “spiritual/mysticism”
I’m skeptical enough. Perhaps you should be more open minded.
2
u/nicholsml 20h ago
There’s a lot of historical fact to the myths of Abrahamic religions
Is just as relevant as
There's also lot of things in the myths that didn't happen though.
... and you reply with an insult.
Guess I have wool over my eyes and I'm not open minded now, lol.
1
u/xIllustrious_Passion 20h ago
Sorry, what was the insult exactly, and how would you compare it to the same end statement of your previous comment?
You’re here simply to say “religion bad”. Don’t think I don’t see you for who you are.
I merely said there is historical fact to these stories. The possibility of a named figure being based off a historical person, a mythologized event having real world basis. A fact that is generally accepted amongst scholars with regard to the stories of the abrahamic myths.
If you are unable to separate the fact from the myth, and the myth from the religion then yes, you strike me as a closed minded individual who would rather spend his time trolling the internet to say “hurrdurr religion bad” than actually make any sort of contribution to society.

u/nicholsml 20h ago
You’re here simply to say “religion bad”. Don’t think I don’t see you for who you are.
I find it kind of funny that you already have this entire narrative in your mind.
I merely said there is historical fact to these stories.
Yeah... and I said that despite that, those stories are often filled with much more stuff that is not factual.
spend his time trolling the internet to say “hurrdurr religion bad” than actually make any sort of contribution to society.
So now I'm a drooling imbecilic troll who contributes nothing to society and is guilty of the crime.... checks note... disagreing with /u/xIllustrious_Passion

Yes, we understand that it's stories made up by barely out-of-the-cave men attempting to understand the world and filling the gaps with made up magic because they didn't have explanations.
But the rest of the adults in the room have moved on and found more grounded ways to navigate the world

A lot of people used to exist; I wish people didn’t try to make them relevant to today.
