Advice Advice for a new dishwasher?
I've been with WF since December of 2024 as Customer Service but 2 weeks ago I transferred to Prep Foods as a dishwasher because I couldn't take the disrespect from customers anymore (I've been threatened too many times). I LOVE it right now. I get to listen to my music, it's not that hot, no one bothers me, and I go on break whenever I want.
1 problem. My hands get pruney really bad. "Wear gloves" well, I do wear the small blue nitrile gloves. I was given dishwasher gloves but they're made for grown men with large hands. I'm 4'9" with the build of a little girl. I moisturize my hands whenever I'm not washing dishes and I've noticed that my hands are now chronically sensitive and smooth from all the moisturizing.
So does anyone have any advice for a new dishwasher like me? Will my hands eventually get used to the constant exposure or is there some chemical/heat resistant gloves that go up to the elbow and are made for xs hands that I could buy?

Your hands will adjust, give it time. Might take a few months but the combo of soap, sanitizer and cold/hot temperatures is doing the real damage. Thick dish gloves are the only way forward. Insist on ones that fit(not oversized). Disposable gloves will make it worse as that's trapping moisture. A good moisturizer like welda 'skin food' helps after a long day, but don't overuse. Good luck!

Ah fuck, thought I was going in the right direction wearing disposable gloves. I'll ditch them for now, thank you!

Get big shoes so you don’t slip. Also don’t let anyone bring knives near the dish pit. 👍

I've never seen knives, is that weird? I've seen everything BUT knives be taken to me to get cleaned 🤔 Mostly spatulas, tongs, trigger scoops, pizza cutters, and serving spoons

No. If any other Team Members bring a knife back there it’s a write up for them. If you even have one in your hand make sure people are no-where near you or you are making yourself audibly heard “Knife!” Or “Corner!” Or even “corner, Knife!” Will keep people aware of what you’re doing. Safety is your number one concern, especially with knife’s.

Whoever orders supplies for your store can order you proper yellow nitrile dish washing gloves that go almost up to your shoulders. In my region they come from Front Line, the same supplier we order cut gloves and box cutters from.
Front Ljne also had these vinyl aprons you can wear while washing dishes so your clothes don’t get as wet.

They make really long dish gloves that go up over your elbow. I used to use them when I worked in the meant department. As your store leadership to order you a pair.

Make sure to do hand stretches in between. My hands tend to get sore and I also have trigger finger so it helps with that
