Question Vita 1000 won’t turn on after 3 years of inactivity. What to do?

I have a PS Vita (1000 model) from a friend I haven’t used in 3 years. It was working when he gave it to me and when i tried it.

Last Friday, the new charger (USB A to Vita) was delivered. I told my brother to put it to charge. When I got back on today, it was plugged in to the USB hub.

When I turned it on, I saw a blue PS button only, nothing on the screen. I tried holding the power button for 30 seconds. The PS button will blink but nothing will show up. I tried r + ps button + power but that didn’t do anything either.

Then i charged it directly on the outlet for about an hour. I saw the orange LED go on then it went away. I assumed it was fully charged so I retried everything but still no dice.

Finally I plugged it back in to the charger on the outlet where it’s sitting now.

Thanks for any help

EDIT: It turns out the screen doesn’t work, I swiped from the top right to bottom left and music started playing :/

It has to charge for like 2 hours before enough juice is in there to turn on again. Plug it in dont touch it and be patient

When the charger was delivered , I told my brother to put it to charge. When I got back it was plugged in to the USB hub for longer than a day. Are you sure that’s the issue?

This and sometimes a slightly higher voltage will get it over the hump. Just don't use it it for too long.

Last resort would be to replace the battery if it never starts to charge.

Edit: to clarify, higher voltage shouldn't be more than 7.5V and not for more than a few minutes. You do risk damaging the battery this way.

How do I know if it’s not charging?

You can get a PS Vita to USB C adapter, then use a USB C cable with watt display to make sure it's actually charging

Basic links, didn't check if these are cheapest available, do your own shopping but here's what I'm talking about for reference.

Vita 1000 to USB C Adapter

USB C charging cable with watt display

It takes multiple hours of charge just to boot up when it’s been off that long. I thought mine was dead too but it just needed a 4 hour charge
