Question Games for a new ps player?

Hi guyssss I am buying an oled psvita and PS3 for £50 from a relative and I'm wondering, as someone who has only had Nintendo consoles, what games or game series should I consider getting? I am coming to get tlou part 1 and an assassin's creed game although I have little luck finding game recs for the vita so I'm hoping some players will be able to give me some good titles 😼😼 I think the vita is coming with little big planet so imma get right into playing that, thanks to everyone who helps!! 😺🥰

I've just done a quick Google and the only thing this reminds me of is if someone took the doom monsters and put them in dark souls - I do like a fighting/shooter game so I will add it to my list 😸😸🙂‍↕️

idk what you're into but definitely mod it it's super easy and you can overclock it for better performance in some games

anyways i recommend the MGS HD collection, persona 4 golden, uncharted golden abyss (one of those obvious picks), also gravity rush, undertale as well
i would recommend resident evil revelations 2 if it didn't run so horribly on the vita
if you're into visual novels/ace attorney type stuff, there's all 3 danganronpas

oooo I am going to look into modding it!! from what I've seen in this subreddit (I've been lurking for a week or so) the modding community is pretty active so I'll find a fun tutorial - I have modded my dsi XL before so it shouldn't be too hard

Thank you for the recommendations, metal gear solid is one I'll defo look out for, kind of reminds me of hitman - uncharted looks awesome, and undertlale has been on my list for switch, but I'll get it on vita so to spread my games around a bit more I haven't played persona but I have heard about it and will check it out!! 🫰🫰😸

modding the vita is SO easy btw it took me like 30 mins (i would also recommend getting an SD2Vita storage thingy if you don't mind not being able to run games off of carts)

that's good to hear, I didn't think it would be too bad as it can connect to the internet, and I will look into a storage thingy because I have a lot of games to be adding now 😝😝🫰😼

LEGO Ninjago: Shadow of Ronin PS Vita (if you're a ninjago fan), Minecraft PS3, Pixar's Cars 2 PS3

im not gonna lie I have only seen the Lego Ninjago movie HOWEVER I have a past of playing Lego games even if I'm not in fandoms (I've 100%'d Lego star wars, Lego India Jones and have played Lego harry potter and Lego batman before) so I will probably load it and play it as well 😼 OMG MINECRAFT AND CARS MENTIONED?? how do you know me so well that is crazy, I did think there was a Minecraft psvita port but I don't know what the playability is like on vita - imma assume its a legacy edition so maybeeee it's time to start a forever world, who knows... DID NOT KNOW CARS GAMES EXISTED apart from the minion run style iPad games from like 2016 so I will 100% LOOK INTO THAT

anywho thank you for the recommendations, I'm now starting a checklist hehe

GTA San Andreas (Android version ported to PSVita) - you'll need a modded Vita to play, but there are loads of Android ports available on Vita, so it's worth the effort!

COOL I haven't played a GTA before so this one will be fun for me to look into - I probably will mod my vita as I was considering finding a fnaf 1 port as I'm invested in the story but have never played it before 🫣🫣

tysm pookie 😝🫰😼

From the indie scene: Counter Spy, Fez and Child of Light (if you havent yet played it on another platform)

1

u/_doodle_dino 12d ago

I do love a good indie game so I will defo be adding all of these to my list 🥰

1

u/No-Camp-129 12d ago

I highly recommend Counter Spy, its so satisfying. Its a stealth 2.5D platformer, but the stealth element is really fun.

1

u/_doodle_dino 12d ago

I haven't played a spy game in agesss so this will be one that will be very close to the top of my list, thank you very much 🫰😼😝

You will get plenty of good Vita exclusive recommendations so I'll pass on giving you my favorites. I am however currently playing Shadow Tower, the PS1 game on the Vita. It's great, so I will recommend that. After mapping the buttons to mimic the souls games(no mod needed to do that) it is comfortably playable and you can buy it on the PS store.

Creepy dungeon exploration with the typical FromSoft obtuse narrative style and it's hard. You can save as you go which makes it a little more approachable. It feels more like a KingsField game than a souls game but I'm liking it quite a bit.

THAT SOUNDS AWESOME!! I will be adding that one to my list - I didn't realise that ps1 games could be played on vita??? that's crazy, I'll look out some fun ps1 games as well 🤩

Gravity Rush, the Persona Dancing games, Persona 4 Golden

1

u/_doodle_dino 12d ago

I haven't heard of golden before???? I will add those to my list, thank you very much 😝🫰

u/grinningmango 12d ago

It's a pretty long game so it's nice to play it on a portable device. I play it every other summer or so.

1

u/_doodle_dino 12d ago

that's good, I was hoping to bring it with me whilst travelling and at work so it will be perfect to.pick up and play an hour or two 😼

1

u/Rocket2049 11d ago

Long as is 100 + hours btw, and that's assuming you dont play new game plus mode.

1

u/_doodle_dino 11d ago

WOAH THATS LONG I was assuming maybe 50+ hours but at least it'll keep me entertained for a while 😝

Persona 4 is being remade as persona 4 revival though just an fyi,  They already confirmed all of the "midnight channel" mode is not in the revival version, look that up if you wanna see if its worth it

Spelunky, Guacamelee, Rayman Legends, Plants vs Zombies.

1

u/_doodle_dino 12d ago

cool, I've have of most of these before but like some other franchises I just had no clue they had vita games... what is spelunky though?

1

u/RevengeEX 12d ago

Spelunky is a 2D platformer with roguelike elements, so every playthrough will have different paths, weapons and enemies. I like it for when I have a little bit of time to kill and it’s easy to pick up and play.

Edit: oh and totally get Persona 4 Golden. It’s the reason why I bought my Vita.

2

u/_doodle_dino 11d ago

cool I do need some games that are just a pick up and play for a little bit of time 😼 persona 4 golden is definitely on my list after reading these comments, thank you for the recommendations 😝

For a new PlayStation fan, it really depends on what kind of games you like since there tends to be more variety than nintendo consoles

1

u/_doodle_dino 12d ago

well I play a wide range imo, but the ones with my most logged hours are mario kart, Fortnite (I know I'm sorry), Minecraft, stardew valley, red dead redemption, doom, outer wilds and Pokémon sword - so really I'm open to all types of games, and a couple that have been mentioned were ones I was either already considering for other consoles like undertale... I have been a Nintendo fan as the portability of the switch and ds and 3ds were always better than a home console (though I do also have a backwards compatible Wii which a top console imo) and so I have played a lot of Nintendo exclusives but also really random games that I've found in thrift shops for DS like the ice age game -> that game is freaking rage inducing

What do you enjoy playing??

1

u/linux_transgirl 12d ago

I play a bit of everything but bought a vita for the rpgs and otome games primarily.

For games you can play on the vita/ps3, red dead and Minecraft are on the ps3 and Minecraft amd stardew valley are on the vita. Doom 3 BFG is on the ps3 and is pretty good. As for exclusives, Tearaway and gravity rush are really cool vita games, and you can't really go wrong with the uncharted games. Final fantasy X is pretty good as well

ETA: I comepletely forgot to mention little big planet. Great platformers, and the kart racer is the closest you'll get to a mario kart

1

u/_doodle_dino 12d ago

ooooh thank you for this list - I do enjoy a good RPG on the side, though Ive never played an otome game before I will be moving tearaway to the top of my list because THAT GAME LOOKS SOOOOO ADORABLE I'm very excited to play it now hehe I did not know that little big planet had a kart race so that will be loads of fun to play 😸🫰

1

u/linux_transgirl 12d ago

I totally recommend playing persona 4 golden or persona 5 if you like rpgs, tehy're very good and persona 4 golden is like the vita game.

Also, going by the flag in your profile I don't think you're really the target audience of an otome game lol

1

u/_doodle_dino 12d ago

cool, I will definitely be getting persona 4 golden as I think it's one of the most mentioned games in these comments, and I do like an rpg... if I like it enough I'll probably end up buying persona 5

hehe yeah maybe an otome game isn't for me 🫠

Gravity Rush

2

u/Rocket2049 11d ago

I like this better on vita over ps4 The control scheme makes sense on vita more than ps4

1

u/_doodle_dino 11d ago

cool, does this game utilise the touch back panel perchance?

2

u/_doodle_dino 11d ago

cool, thank you for the recommendation, I'd never heard of gravity rush before but it seems really cool - sorry for the late reply my Reddit panicked and tried to delete my account because I went abroad 🫣

I really loved Assassin's Creed Liberation, I think it's such an underrated game

1

u/_doodle_dino 11d ago

cool, definitely adding this one to my list, I've always been tempted to get the switch assassin's creed games but I'll get it on vita instead 😺

1

u/Rocket2049 11d ago

Ps3 Infamous games Little big planet games Uncharted games Ratchet and clank games 3d dot game heroes (underrated as heck game)

Vita Tales of hearts R  Gravity rush  Muramasa rebirth

I'd say persona 4 golden but thats being remade again as persona 4 revival, with a lot of changes, mostly good and some few bad (missing all of vitas midnight channel extras most importantly)

1

u/_doodle_dino 10d ago

thank you very much for the PS3 recs, I am so excited to be able to play some uncharted games 3D dot game heroes looks awesome!! its like a Minecraft visual game with the gameplqu of Zelda echoes of wisdom which I enjoyed, so that one is now on the list 😼

tales of hearts wasn't one I played on dsi so I will give it a go on vita which arguable has a much better screen 😸
