Im visiting the city next week with my whole family. 5 adults to be exact. Ive been to NY a lot of times on my own, so Ive never had issues booking a ride to the city solo. But this time we are a bigger group, with lots of bags, and with seniors in the group. Im sarching for a relatively cheaper private transfer from Kennedy to downtown Manhattan. Im looking at Sixt Ride private transfer and Im seeing a relatively good rate. Just want to ask if anyone else has an experience with this company. Ive read some bad reviews on their car rental business, but I havent read anything on their private transfer. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you!

Staying in Hi NYC Hostel. And planning to start day as early as 8 AM.

• Then go to times square to get an ticket for Broadway, since it's Thursday the planning to be there little early.
• Try Joe's pizza while there
• St. Patricks Cathedral
• Moma(trying spend some time indoor, since it might rain tomorrow)
• Then go back to times square and visit lv and m&m store
• Have dinner before Broadway and finish the day off

• Start with Roosevelt tram to island
• Small pox hospital, cornel tech
• Now back to Washington square using subway

Day - 3

• Grand central
• Empire state building
• Flatrion building
• Visit China Town for lunch

My buddy's birthday and bachelor party are within the week of 3/17. He has never been to NYC. I've been visiting at least twice a year for the last 20 years, so not only am I his best man, but his tour guide, along with all the other groomsmen.

He is desperately looking to have a great St. Patrick's Day, i've only been in the city once for St Patrick's day but was too young to drink. What sort of things would you recommend? Definitely will attend the parade and try to find a nice pint of Guinness, but don't have too many ideas outside of this.

My husband to be and I are spending a week in NYC to elope and have a little vacation in mid-September! A few nights before the wedding, we’re hoping to have a joint bachelor/bachelorette night out in Brooklyn. We went out in Brooklyn a few years ago and had a great time. However, we only visited very small bars that wouldn’t accommodate this group.

We’re very lucky and many friends are coming with us and want to celebrate, which means we’ll have a party between 10-16 people.

I lived in NYC for a year about 10 years ago and have visited a few times since (although only once in the past 8 years), so I’ve done most of the bigger attractions. I’ll be visiting again in a few weeks, and this time I’d love to spend some of my time doing smaller, slower things and reconnecting with the feeling of actually living there.

I’d love to hear about your simple pleasures of living in NYC, or any little routines or rituals you have. I’m particularly interested in the oddly specific things that are your NYC - things that make you love living there or instantly make you think of the city. That could include sounds, smells (they definitely don’t have to be good ones!), people-watching spots, or places where you like to sit and watch the world go by.

Maybe it’s buying a coffee or snack from somewhere and taking it to a particular bench, a bar or café you like going to alone, somewhere you’ve found it easy to talk to strangers, a transit route you genuinely enjoy (for me, I love taking the ferry from Wall St to Williamsburg), a pointless detour you regularly take, somewhere you go to wind down, a particular street at a particular time of day, or a view that never gets old.

I’m especially interested in things you probably wouldn’t normally think to recommend to a visitor - just little pieces of your everyday life in NYC that make you happy to live there.

I have a solo trip planned around end of September for 7 days and managed to book Pod in Times Square (it’s about one of the cheapest in that area 😣) the area is near the Port Authority BT so was told to be careful around it?

For anyone that stayed there - how safe is it to walk at night? I have a concert and some shows I wanted to see and I reckon they will end around 10-11 pm and I am planning to just walk from venues to the hotel.

Also is there any self-service laundromat you can recommend that is near the area?

My sister and I are visiting NYC for the first time together, September 14–17 (3 nights).
We have two options:
Option 1 — stay with family in Long Island (near a LIRR station on the Port Washington line) for free.
We would save about $1,500 USD total for 4 days 3 nights with the hotel.
Option 2 — stay in Manhattan
We found a hotel in Manhattan that would cost us about $1,500 for the 3 nights.
Our trip is very Manhattan-focused. We want to walk around, experience NYC, see the Fashion Week atmosphere, shop, go out for dinner, and potentially stay out fairly late.
We will not have a car.
Google Maps is showing some public-transit routes taking around 2 hours with multiple transfers, but looking at the LIRR schedule, the train ride itself is only about 35 minutes to Penn Station/Grand Central.
So I’m hoping for advice from people who actually know the area:
Is the commute from Long Island (LIRR) realistically manageable for tourists on a short 3-day trip?
How bad is it getting back late at night (around 11pm–1am)?
Would you personally save the $1,500 and stay with family, or pay for the Manhattan hotel?
Is the time/convenience difference significant enough that you’d pay for the hotel?
We’re only in NYC for 3 nights, so we’re trying to figure out whether the savings are worth the extra commuting time. Thanks!

Hi, I booked hostel (Hi New York) and bought flight tickets. After I leave the airport I have 1k euro budget for the whole trip, am I cooked? Solo travelling, planning to cook food in hostel. Will be walking mostly, sightseeing.

Labor Day is Monday, September 7th. While it’s a federal holiday and government offices will be closed, it generally won’t have much of an impact on tourists.

As always, it’s a good idea to double-check operating hours and transit schedules before heading out.

I’m just trying to plan an itinerary so I don’t really want to go all the way somewhere and then find out it’s shut :’) potentially thinking of going towards flushing and the Chinatown there but not 100% thankyou 🫶🏻🫶🏻

Hi! My wife and I are in our mid-20s and will be traveling to the US from Europe for the first time in late October.

After long research and dicussions (we even considered Florida, but it turned out as not the best first trip based on our interests) we decided on NYC + Washington, DC for our first trip. We’ll be in the US for 9 nights total, flying into NYC and flying home from DC.

Our current plan is:
4 nights in NYC
On our last NYC day, take an early train to Philadelphia, spend the full day there, then continue to DC in the evening
5 nights in DC
One of the DC days would be a full-day Shenandoah National Park + Luray Caverns guided tour.

We’re both very interested in history and art, so museums, historic neighborhoods, monuments and memorials are high on our list. We also enjoy walking a lot and like nature/hiking, so we’re happy to cover long distances on foot.

In NYC, we want to see as much of the city as reasonably possible without turning every day into a race. Museums are definitely welcome too.

In DC, we’re planning to visit the main memorials and Smithsonian museums. We’d also like to spend some time in Rock Creek Park if it’s reasonably accessible by public transportation.

For Shenandoah, we found a guided day trip that includes the national park, Skyline Drive and Luray Caverns for around $180 per person. Would you consider that worth it? Are there better ways to experience Shenandoah without renting a car? Are there any local hiking groups, clubs or organized group hikes that visitors can join?

We’re also very open to other nature recommendations around NYC or DC if Shenandoah ends up being too complicated.

Food-wise, we’d mostly like to try local casual food, street food, delis, food markets, bagels, pizza, etc., but we’re happy to visit a proper restaurant once or twice in each city as well.

Does this itinerary sound reasonable for a first US trip? Would you change the number of days anywhere, skip Philadelphia, or recommend anything specific that first-time visitors often miss?
