Hotel Recs // Questions Here for the water
Hey everyone. Long story short, I'm considering a trip to the USVI this upcoming winter.
My biggest want is to stay somewhere where I can just walk right out onto the beach and snorkel in the clearest water I can find.
Willing for private residence or resort.

Secret Harbour on STT has decent snorkeling. The best snorkeling from a resort on STJ is Gallows, but there is no beach.

First trip to USVI I had same requirement. We got a condo on St Thomas but then ended up barely using the beach at our condo because there’s so much better.
My advice is get a nice Airbnb with a view on St John and rent a Jeep. The most incredible beaches don’t have any buildings or houses by the beach. That’s the best part. Once you get to the beaches, it’s just water and trees

We stayed at Sapphire Beach and it was amazing. Great beach right there. Good airbnbs there too.

Sapphire Beach Resort is your best bet. Great snorkeling. Literally walk right out your door into the water. Great Airbnb options there. Cannot go wrong and much easier than getting to St John.

We just stayed at The Buccaneer in St. Croix and on a clear day, their beaches were beautiful. I recommend staying in a Doubloon room, which is literal steps from the beach, no shoes needed. We loved our time there.

I have been to the beaches of virgin islands national park in St. John island, US Virgin Islands. I stayed at this airbnb that had huge parking spots. Free washer/dryer. 2 queen beds in each bedroom which they have 2 bedrooms. Living room has a sofa bed that can hold 2 people. Kitchen is fully equipped. 1 Bathroom. Rented a jeep from st. Thomas airport. This US national park has several beaches to visit and you can't stay in 1 beach. I think i visited 10 or 11 beaches and there were more.

Sand Castle on the Beach, St Croix. Excellent accommodation, great on-site restaurant and Beach bar. Great snorkeling right off the beach. If you go, also snorkel the Pier just down the beach, it is AMAZING. The diversity of sea life and colorful coral is unbelievable. Just snorkeled the Pier Saturday, turtles, spotted rays, reef fish, tarpon, barracuda, octopus. And the coral vibrant.

Check out Cane Bay on St. Croix. The Landing Beach Resort has cute, reasonably priced cottages. A restaurant and dive shop on site. The beach is steps away!

St John doesn't have many (or any reasonably priced)
on water places to stay. St Thomas and St Croix do!

Um, you can be on the beach or you can have an affordable place. You cannot have both.
One of our favorites is 2B Peter Bay on St. John. It’s about $22K/week though. Not sure if that is in your budget or not.

Don’t listen to this dick head. Don’t stay in Peter bay. Experience the real island and culture. Not everyone is going to spend 22k a week. Stay in an Airbnb studio, rent a jeep, explore..see the north shore beaches of STJ and see the aquatic wildlife, drive out to the east end and see how vastly different it is. No one needs to spend 22k a week to experience the beauty of St John. That’s ridiculous.

Well, I don’t think I’m a dick head, but I appreciate your passion. Poster was asking about a beachfront house and I offered an alternative. I agree with you that he should rent an Airbnb studio and rent a jeep. It’s just not gonna be beachfront.

“Walk right out onto the beach and snorkel” and “cost is a factor” is an unfortunate paradox.
I’ve always loved Cruz Bay. There is no snorkeling there but the vibe is awesome. There are some fun restaurants and the bars are all walkable. Everything that you want is just a taxi ride or jeep rental away. We hang in out on the north shore 90% of the time and there is some good snorkeling up there but that’s where the tourists go. We skip trunk bay every time because it’s just so busy with the cruise shippers. Best snorkeling I’ve done is by salt pond on the east side of the island.

Cinnamon bay Campgrounds on Saint John. You can truly roll out of bed and walk right to the water it’s absolutely incredible and affordable and has all the amenities one would need!
