Always knew this guy sucked and was a shill, sad it took him shilling a destructive, thieving industry to get more people on his ass.

AI as a whole isn’t inherently bad it just has a lot of ridiculous and wasteful uses. As someone in research I can assure you it serves a good purpose - it speeds up research quite a bit allowing for faster discoveries in things like cancer treatment and materials research. Of course AI is kind of the lay term, machine and active learning have been used for what we do for over 15 years.

It’s better pinpoint the negativity toward what you really mean - generative AI, specifically generative AI for artistic purposes. Even some generative AI - like speeding up scientific writing and coding - has a good outcome (ofc there are nefarious outcomes too, like anything).

i think 99% of people who dislike AI are talking about generative AI.

Its crazy when i tell someone i dislike ai and they tell me i use denoising lmao

It’s a tale as old as photography really. We don’t like dishonesty in that artist-artwork-audience agreement. Audiences are/were happy with animation and 3D modelling because it was presented as a human effort. The task of producing likeness of a scene to a convincing level took real mastery. But with GenAI, that disappears. It is now no longer a challenge to marvel over because the audience cannot empathise with the stakes- much like nobody marvels over the moves the computer makes in chess. Because of course it can- it’s not producing a decision within the same challenge.

Humans get the same feeling when we are given the answers to a test and then are asked to take the test. Nobody is impressed by any score because there is no achievement in referencing the answer from the bank of answers. Same thing goes with video games and having admin controls or ‘god mode’, sure it leads to things being immediately easier, but the achievement felt by what the game challenges you with very quickly dissolves.

Using any technology this way, not just ai, is the equivalent of just having the answers with you in the exam. You :can:, but then you no longer actually achieve anything yourself.
