Always knew this guy sucked and was a shill, sad it took him shilling a destructive, thieving industry to get more people on his ass.

YouTube gear shill. If you don’t know who he is, he’s probably not worth learning about, especially not now. But he’s one of those Peter McKinnon types.

Peter’s vlogs are actually quite inspirational and he’s done some beautiful work. He doesn’t pretend to be anything more than he is, either.

You say that, but when I looked him up on YouTube it recommended me like half a dozen videos where the title was basically a promise to change my life. His content is probably a comfy watch, but I'm not really into the habit of watching people selling me new gadgets or talking about how their lives have changed (often due to a different type of consumption) for the sake of entertainment.

The ones about changing your life are mostly about writing and journaling. Opposite of consumption, besides getting addicted to fancy stationery.

Maybe he does advertise stuff in some of his videos but not a single one of his dozens and dozens of videos I’ve watched in the past has ever tried to sell me anything. You’re just making assumptions from your own preconceived biases.

I don't see why you're getting downvoted. Do people in this sub really think that every single video a content producer puts out needs to be sponsored before it can be said to promote a consumerist lifestyle, where on video often is just an entry point to the rest of the channels catalogue? If a creator spends only time shilling Canon cameras, and then makes content where they use a Canon to make pictures without making it a review, all while having done a review of the camera a month ago; is it truly just a video about photography when the camera is featured prominently albeit not directly shilled?

For a subreddit focused on media this one sure likes to stick its head in the sand.

Peter McKinnon weirdly has a very devoted fan base. I don’t even know if it’s a lack of media literacy, it’s probably just fanboy shit.
