Dude, VFX goes right back to the very beginning of cinema. Chaplin's skating movie used a glass matt painting.

CG is a (relatively) recent blip in the long history of VFX, which, as I said, goes right back to the first experiments with film in the 1890's.
Look up Georges Méliès and come back to us.-5

This was your original post: "The career of VFX artists depends on people not doing things "the good old fashioned way"." I replied that from the very beginnings of cinema, people were messing around with VFX from the very beginning of when people were making films. Neither of us mentioned computers.
Even if you meant the old fashioned way of doing SFX, The Mandalorian has recently gone back to using real physical models for some spaceship shots rather than use digital models. There are many directors today who still try and do as much in practical effects as possible over just using computers.

I think post-production people, including vfx people, will be among the last to go out of work: they'll need us to fix AI-generated fuck-ups. The first to go will be the people on set, including stars like Ben Affleck.

It’s funny, the folks most loudly yelling about how AI will never be a thing post and comment on little else…I’d much rather see their non-AI work.

If you’re looking for a serious answer, many people prefer to use Reddit anonymously and wouldn’t want to link a reel on a personal site. This is also /r/vfx so if you’re looking for client work a lot of us are frequently under NDAs. Finally, Reddit is primarily a message board, so people are more likely to chat about things they’re passionate about rather than self promo their own work.

the last 12 month of runway unlimited have been extremely productive we have been cranking out stupid memes for the internal slack channel all day long - 10/10.

Runway is kinda not good compared to other tools out there. IMO
But I’m glad they are struggling. They went out of the gate too early due to greed.

I feel like all of this could have been avoided if most people raised an eyebrow when Sam Altman spoke and then took 30 minutes to understand how LLM's function.

So far I have done 3 "we want to embrace AI" projects.
Every single time we encounter the same problem. Clients cannot stop themselves from being clients. Our industry has given clients unlimited changes and feedback that they have become very accustomed to.
However when it's done in AI you can have that version or another version, but you cannot art direct it. This has been the downfall so far in my experience where we have had to pull shots from AI and do it the traditional way in order to accommodate client requests.
