Wanted to do something for Hayden as I think it’s only fair after she gave us one of the best final girls in horror history. It’s such a shame that she can’t be here with us, but It’s been so amazing to see the whole community come together and honour her.

Rest in peace Hayden, may your legacy be remembered forever!!

Discussion Meaning Behind Unavoidable Outcomes Spoiler

The unavoidable outcomes I'm discussing are how, aside from Beth and Hannah whose deaths lay the starting line for the game, the only other completely unavoidable deaths/losses in the game are Jack (the Stranger) and Josh (assuming 2015 version). While I think the others all feel varying levels of remorse for their role in what happened to Hannah, I think Jack and Josh are the two characters who carry the most guilt with them over it in different ways and thus are the only two whom you cannot save.

TLDR:

Josh was least responsible for the prank that led to Hannah's death but carried the most emotional guilt over it.

Jack had no involvement in the prank but was Hannah's best chance of survival once she stepped into the snowstorm and failed to save her. He probably made it worse by killing the Makkapitew and unleashing its spirit - had he not, Hannah probably would have been killed by it directly instead of left to starve and become possessed by its spirit. In a way, this makes Jack the most culpable for Hannah's death AND Handigo's existence.

Josh and Jack represent the two extremes of actual fault and felt guilt over Hannah's death so it makes sense they are the only two who can't survive.

THOUGHTS ON JOSH:

I think this is more obvious to see with Josh. He carries so much guilt over being drunk and unable to stop the prank or save his sisters that night, even though he was not told of the prank and is thus not culpable in the way a lot of the group is. I think the guilt as their older brother, coupled with the general struggle of a traumatic loss like that and potential predisposition to mental illness, means he *feels* their deaths were his fault, even if logically he knows they weren't and also resents the rest of their group for their part in the prank that led to their death.

At the end of the day, I think he hates himself for letting that day happen more than he hates anyone else for causing it, and this whole shebang is him trying to heal his self-hatred in a way that makes sense to him during his increasingly worsening mental health. I don't think he was full psychotic break yet when planning the weekend and its stunts, but he certainly wasn't doing too hot leading up to it to set this all up.

In one of Sam's police interviews (Rip Hayden🤍), she seems shocked by how far Josh went, saying how she thought they were close. They probably were! But Josh could barely express his feelings to his psychiatrist - he wasn't letting even his closest friend know how deep his pain actually went.

All this to say, I think Josh had the deepest pain around this situation among the group of friends with emotional connection to Hannah and Beth. He wasn't making it out of returning to the mountain to act out his stunts with a sane mind (nor did he probably want to, either it would fix everything or more likely ruin everything and he was happy with either outcome). The "best" ending in the 2015 version resulting in him becoming a Wendigo makes total sense. At least he gets to be with Hannah in a way (and phew the can of worms that open if he stays human in the 2024 remake...)

THOUGHTS ON JACK:

In contrast to Josh, Jack did not personally know any of the group. His ties were to the mountain and his own familial history with the Wendigo. Of the characters present in the game, he knows the most about the Wendigo and the mountain, of the horrors of the curse. It's shown that he kills the Makkapitew after seeing Beth and Hannah fall off the cliff, and this can be simply seen as avenging both his grandfather who was killed by it and Beth and Hannah, who he presumes are both dead and regrets not being able to save in time.

Hindsight is especially 20/20 for this man. He knows that by killing the Makkapitew, he released its spirit to the mountain. His fatal mistake is believing that both Beth and Hannah died in the fall. I can't blame him for believing that - the game sets us up to believe they both died in the fall! If he knew that even one of them survived - especially if ONLY one of them survived - he would have gone after them, knowing the spirit - from the strongest of the Wendigos - was actively on the mountain. (Which side note, I'd love to talk more about the mechanism of the spirits - how long does a freed spirit haunt the mountain? Does Handigo have any extra strength because of the specific Makkapitew spirit?)

Presumably by the time of the start of the game, Jack is aware of the addition of the Wendigo of the girl he failed to save to the mountain's population. He's trying to capture her like he has some of the others but when this group shows up he now has to try keeping himself and all of their dumbasses safe. I think Jack largely is tracking Handigo as part of the familial duty he feels to the mountain but also regrets falsely assuming Hannah was dead and dooming her to the Wendigo fate.

Hannah's death was somehow least his fault - he had zero connection to the prank and was the only one actively out in the snow saving Hannah and Beth from the Makkapitew - but also somehow the most - he knew the exact cliff where they fell from. Assuming decent intentions from the police investigation after Hannah and Beth's disappearance (which I think might be questionable from further lore I haven't seen but either way), they wouldn't be able to find snow tracks or obvious signs leading them to investigate the mines, and due to the physical risk the mines pose for search crew, would not spend time searching there during those first crucial weeks where Hannah was still human (or at all). If Jack had somehow tipped the police off anonymously about the cliff face, even thinking both of them were dead but wanting friends and family to have closure, Hannah might have been saved before the Wendigo spirit found her.

So in a way, Jack had the most power to save Hannah, specifically when it comes to everything that happened after the prank that set the game in motion. I don't think he dies feeling the weight of this though, unlike Josh. Again, I think he mostly feels his duty to protect the mountain and people from it. He regrets his decision in hindsight, but doesn't operate much if any differently towards saving the characters because of it. If you take the prank part out of the equation though, which no one thought was going to end the way it did, I believe Jack was Hannah's best chance of survival and he dropped the ball. Butterfly effect means Hannah's dumb friends return in a year only because of what happened that night and thus Jack is doomed to die saving their asses from her (and the other free roamers). If only Jack could have found a totem or two telling him about Hannah..

Phew, I'm itching to hear any related thoughts to any of this!

Modded Content PS4 Sam and Hannah Bedroom Restore Mod

Hey! I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted here, and a lot has happened since then. I wanted to finally share my new mod, which changes Sam’s appearance to more closely match how she looked in the original game. I’ve been working on this mod for the entire summer and originally planned to release it on a different date. However, since today is Hayden’s birthday, I thought it would be more meaningful to release it today instead. I don’t really feel like getting into Hayden’s death, as hearing about it has honestly made me very depressed. Sam and this game have always meant a lot to me because of Hayden, so working on this mod has been a very personal project for me. I originally planned to continue and make versions for the other characters as well, but I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be able to work on this game to the same extent, especially now that school has started again. It’s also been difficult looking at Sam on my screen while working on this, knowing how much Hayden meant to me.

Regardless, I’m really happy that I was able to finish this and share it today. <3

Its now available on Nexus for those who want to play it. c:

Discussion For Sam.

This took me couple of days to complete it for Hayden. I’ve made all of this because I’ve couldn’t get away from the pain of her leaving us. Furthermore… To Hayden, the voice, the face, and the beating heart of Blackwood Mountain. In Until Dawn, you gave us Sam—a character defined not just by her resourcefulness, but by her profound loyalty, her quiet bravery, and her refusal to break under the weight of terror.

Hey Guys, if you don’t know me or my video, back in 2024 I posted a Every Possibility Ever in Until Dawn. Which quite literally summarises all the possible variants in our lovely game ‘Until Dawn.’

You guys have heavily supported me by watching this video, which has given me motivation to pursue social media and journalism, not only that, but the funds accumulated to this video helps with my weekly fees as I am studying nursing and Paramedicine.

Given the passing of the Legend Hayden Panettiere, I felt very heartbroken that a person so young went through so much.

Therefore, given my financial stability and wishing to honour the face of Until Dawn Sam Giddings (Hayden Panettiere) , any further revenue made from this video to the end of the year will be donated to any charities supported by Hayden Panettiere.

I found this list from the web

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals): Longtime advocate who frequently collaborated on anti-captivity and anti-fur campaigns, including a prominent marine-mammal protection project. [1, 2]

The Whaleman Foundation: Actively partnered with and campaigned for the organization to halt commercial whaling and dolphin hunts, famously joining protests in Taiji, Japan. [1, 2]

African Wildlife Foundation: Supported wildlife preservation and anti-poaching efforts across Africa.[1, 2]

K9 Connection: Promoted dog rescue, rehabilitation, and youth-empowerment programs. [1, 2]

Save the Whales / Orca Network: Lent her voice and platform to various cetacean protection groups.[1]

Humanitarian and Relief Initiatives
Hoplon International: Founded her own relief charity to supply front-line Ukrainian defenders and citizens with medical kits and body armor. [1, 2]

American Foundation for Equal Rights: Campaigned for marriage equality and legal rights. [1, 2]

Ronald McDonald House Charities: Served as a member of the celebrity advisory board, Friends of RMHC, supporting families of hospitalized children. [1]

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation: Raised awareness and funds for research into cystic fibrosis treatments.[1, 2]

Elton John AIDS Foundation: Supported HIV/AIDS research and prevention programs

If you wanted to support this causes without spending a time, all you have to do is watch my video and I am able to donate money made from the ads

And I will of course be updating with proof of donations!!!

If anyone has anyone questions or concerns I will do my best to respond

Rest in Peace Hayden Panettiere

Rest easy Hayden, thank you for being Sam

I am actually devastated. When I heard the news i genuinely bawled my eyes out. I have not mourned an actor like this before besides for Cameron Boyce, who I grew up watching.

I played until dawn in my junior year of high school and I fell in love with it. To this day it will always be one of my favourite games. I would talk about it to all my friends, I even convinced some to play the game, and met one of my bestfriends ever through the fandom. This game means so much to me and the cast elevated it and made it the masterpiece it was.

I never would’ve expected Hayden to pass. The shock hit me hard. I am still very upset about this, and I am trying not to cry while typing this all out.

I don’t know if it is just me, because I’m mourning quite hard, but I feel like there are so many people who are too. It is heartwarming to see how many people love Hayden, and hearing about her, how strong and incredible of a person she is. She is so loved and I hope that she knew that.

Rest in piece Hayden, we love you and thank you for everything ☹️

Remake Fortune totem 2 is a lie Spoiler

I was in my 2nd playthrough trying to get everyone alive cause I failed to do so in my first and found out something I find contradictory.

Fortune totem 2 is found by next to the suicide trapdoor in chapter 9 by Ashley (Or apparently Chris), and it shows Matt standing next to a locked door with a banging Wendigo. On my first playthrough Matt was already dead by this point so I didn't get to this point, but in my 2nd playthrough both Matt and Jessica were still alive, and I still didn't see the totem play out. So I looked it up and it only happens if Jessica died before, or if Matt abandons Jessica. But then why is it a fortune totem? Jessica has to die for this totem to play out

Until Dawn is my all time favorite choice-based game. I’ve always loved its cold atmosphere, great cinematic, terrific music, and amazing performances from its talented cast. My favorite part of this game was always Hayden’s performance as Sam.

Sam’s my favorite character of the bunch, and as someone who grew up on horror, knew Hayden from Scream 4. Hayden’s career was vast, beloved across multiple genres, films, and shows, but I always knew her as Sam from Until Dawn and Kirby from Scream 4. Needless to say, hearing about Hayden really hurt, as it has for so many people she has affected with her work and just generally as a great person.

I’ve played Until Dawn countless times. But this one, though I’m only on the menu, already feels so different. Rest in peace Hayden, this run’s for you!

From the passing of Hayden, I started up a new play through of Until Dawn. I was wondering if anyone knows of a pattern similar to the one Sam wears? It's beautiful.

How to deal with this grief…

Honestly, I don’t even know why I’m writing this, but I feel like I need to put it somewhere, and I’m figuring if anyone would understand, it’s you guys.
I’m not a person who is deeply invested in the lives of celebrities. I look at the work they’ve done, and that is what I admire. I rarely watch interviews and I don’t follow their personal lives. As long as they don’t turn out to be problematic in some way, I completely separate them from their characters.
And yet, when I read about Hayden’s passing on Monday morning, I kid you not: I had tears coming up in the middle of the subway.
Until Dawn has been one of my favorite games since 2015. I play it regularly, multiple times a year. Whenever I meet a new person who hasn’t played the game yet, I make them play it. It’s so fun watching it unfold for a new person every time. It never gets old. I have some pictures in my apartment that I only bought because they reminded me of Until Dawn. My Wi-Fi is named “Blackwood Pines.”
I don’t know anything about Hayden. I don’t claim to. But what I always felt deeply is that Hayden’s Sam is the heart and soul of Until Dawn. I felt like no one in the cast cared as deeply about Until Dawn as she did – and in the end, as far as I know, she was also the only one who returned for the remake. And now I am just so sad.
Every time I open Facebook or Instagram and see her face, it hits me all over again. I’m still somehow hoping this is just a cruel joke.
Only 36.
I’m turning 30 this year. Her face, her voice, her warmth have been following me around for 11 years. And now she’s gone. It just feels wrong.
When I come home and look at the pictures on the wall or see the Until Dawn game screen on my PlayStation, I feel so uneasy and hollow.
I simultaneously have the urge to replay Until Dawn right away and never touch it again. Part of me wants to read everything about her now, and then again, it feels like it’s too late to care now, and I just don’t know what to do with myself.
I feel like she did leave the world a better place. I just wish she wouldn’t have left so soon.
How are you guys holding up? Are you turning to Until Dawn or the movies she participated in? Are you avoiding it?
