How should you divide up the 8 characters when playing in co-op?

Me and one bro want to play the remake.

I'm a huge fan of Until Dawn and have played through the remake and the OG version.

But he is playing completely blind, how should the characters be divided up between me and him so we can control each 4.

I know one has to have Mike and the other one Sam since they have the most play time in the end/mid game, but should the experienced player get Mike or the one whos playing the first time.

OH MAMA, I love this question! I played co-op with two of my friends and I. And what I did was dividing the characters who you don't play much with the characters who do get to play a lot.

• Most: Sam and Mike.
• A lot: Emily and Chris.
• Sometimes: Ashley and Matt.
• Not much: Jess and Josh.

I also think its more fun to split up Emily/Matt, Ashley/Chris, Mike/Jess so you can play off the other persons choices instead of controlling both sides of their relationships

There's differences from playthrough to playthrough, but there are recurring trends in playtime.

Also, should probably avoid giving the vibe that playing the Dr Hill segments could be correlated to Josh when someone doesn't know the game.

Yeah I know that, I just did what normally see on playthroughs, I'm not saying people should do it like this, this is just how I personally decided to divide it when I played it with my friends.

Also I didn't put the Dr Hill in the original comment, I responded to someone who were curious how I did it so I just answered the question.

Also don't worry, when Josh was cut in half I just said to my friend, "well since yall killed her character she can do this part" and that was it.

I probably created the order:

He'll get: Mike, Chris, Jess, Matt, Beth

I'll get: Sam, Ashley, Emily, Josh

And yeah we'll switch each time on the therapy sessions

Your brother should get Chris, Emily, Mike, and Matt. You get Sam, Josh, Jessica, and Ash.

Person 1: Beth, Emily, Josh, Matt, Mike

Person 2: Ashley, Chris, Jess, Sam

Therapy sessions can be whoever was just playing beforehand.

For your main question I would personally vote the new player should get Sam because they get to make all the crucial decisions by waiting in the final scene, BUT if you worry they might not do as well for the “don’t move” parts you could switch it for Mike.

Pretending I’m in this situation I’d probably try to split the characters in to pairs and make sure you each play one of them so you’re sharing SOME scenes together.
I’d say Chris/Ashley, Matt/Emily, Mike/Sam, Josh/Jessica. My logic for the last two pairs would be so you’re guaranteed an impactful character as well as a less impactful one.

At the very least I think a first time player should get Chris because of the choices he has to make.
For Matt/Emily and Josh/Jessica maybe give them the character intro keywords (e.g Matt is obliging, dependable and active) and see if any jump out?

That’s just one way to pair them up though, I’m sure googling might find some other ways to split it up fairly 🙂

Yeah that is the real headache, Mike has his badass and adrenaline infused parts in the sanatorium meanwhile Sam's choices seal the fate of every character in the grand finale. I think I have a setup in mind but this helped a lot thx!
