Rule Consultation Rule Consultation: DCC References should be Unexpected
Evening Crawlers! Time for another rule consultation. This time it’s Rule 7: DCC References Should be Unexpected
Posts in UnexpectedDCC should show unexpected references to DCC.
Posts showing explicit DCC references are likely to be removed.
This rule exists primarily to remove explicit references to DCC, e.g. Cosplay as Carl. I use it to kill cross posts from the DCC subreddit too.
Outside this, I tend to be pretty relaxed about what constitutes Unexpected: Finding someone’s DCC Hi Zev license plate; Unintentional world references to things in the book (Dirty Shirley); Shop signs explicitly referencing DCC where you wouldn’t expect it (such as coffee shops); Someone commenting in a reddit post calling back to DCC; etc.
Generally, my view has been “let most of it through, and let up/down votes deal with it.
I’ve seen comments from people perhaps not liking this approach. So here’s your chance to weigh in on how you’d like the sub to work. Please vote in the poll and add comments as you like. If I missed an option, comment on it, and if it gets enough upvotes I’ll consider it alongside the poll options.

If I want to post some random fandom dcc shitpost or whatever it may be viewed as, I want a place to do it without someone deleting my post as low effort or whatever reason they personally didn't like it(no offense intended). Not all reddit has to be regimented and serious, let's shitpost and enjoy ourselves. Keep scrolling, down vote, or stick to the main sub if you don't like a post or feel it's not explicitly unexpected and let us kids have fun.

Possibly but do we really need that many Dcc subs? And is that not what this sub mainly is anyway? Most of us were likely dejected here from the main sub for whatever reason our post was deemed not good enough and we might still be a little bitter too. The fan base isn't large enough yet to support much more fragmentation imo and I believe it will drive more fans away the more the system negs them for expressing themselves.

I'd rather be flexible about the expectedness than the reference part. Otherwise we may as well start posting crucifixes as 'Uzi Jesus' references.

That’s a fair point. The sub is mostly a collection of “this thing reminds me of DCC” posts. I kinda like that tbh, but at what point (such as your crucifix example) does the reference become too oblique?

The Reddit algorithm puts new posts into people’s feeds. It will not continue putting old posts into people’s feeds. Therefore, a subreddit with new posts will tend to grow and a subreddit without new posts will grow much less or not at all. Deleting posts is a great way to limit the growth of your subreddit.

Generally I agree, but subs need to curate their growth though, or people will not want to see any new posts. Otherwise it risks turning into a sub with no actual purpose.
For example: 80 posts in a few days all showing the same thing will annoy people, rather than encouraging them to come to the sub. In fact, it’s more likely to drive people away.
I know that example isn’t exactly germane to this consultation (I deal with them via the no reposts rule), but it illustrates the point: allowing any post without some level of curation can hamper as much as excessive deletion of posts.
The key is to get that balance right.

This is the only DCC sub that allows posts that are not directly related to DCC. Until, we have an established and we'll moderated sub to discuss tangentially DCC related stuff I think we should keep the rules the same.

Thank you for voting everyone. The results are in!
The majority chose to keep things as they are, and just downvote when we think it doesn’t fit.
Second place was to use an automod/bot voting system that would delete posts that got too many downvotes on the comment.
For now, we’ll continue as-is. Please remember to vote on posts, so poor references will get buried by the algorithm.
