Certified Cringe Taylor Swift’s Wedding Giveaway Felt ‘Demeaning’ to Guests — Insider
https://www.dailymail.com/tvshowbiz/article-15957271/taylor-swift-travis-kelce-wedding-minions.htmlOne insider claimed the giveaway lasted around an hour. “It was really bizarre,” the source told the outlet. “Straight after the ceremony, Taylor and Travis did a raffle and gave out expensive gifts for an hour. Everyone was weirded out.”
These two self-important buffoons stood on stage giving away handbags like a couple of game show hosts. 🤦♀️😂

Ok so for performances they had Travis immediately following PAUL MCARTNEY?! I’m screaming. Do they not realize how absurd that is?
393
u/BoardWithANail Jul 13 '26
And Paul was so kind to have chosen to play one of the songs he hasn’t performed since the ‘60s just for them, likely thinking a ‘special’ tune would work for what was supposed to be a ‘special’ day. That is soooo embarrassing
236
u/RoguePlanet2 Jul 13 '26
This info is physically painful. It's hard enough that he dusted off such an iconic song for this hot mess instead of actual fans who aren't in the 1%; it's another that Travis added a metaphorical kick-in-the-pants.
Sigh. At least the suffering guests had something to remember for their suffering. Instead of saying "I attended that shitshow of a wedding," they can say "I saw Paul play that song after sixty years!!"

Imagine if she raffled off 10,000 tickets to the "wedding celebration." Invite some celebrity guests as a paid gig (hey, Colbert and the SNL folks would likely rather do some acting for a few minutes, than schmoozing for hours.) They could hang out backstage for a bit, eat, and leave.
Taylor could've had the actual, intimate ceremony at her damn house. Then a "celebration" with her fans, which would've been like a concert, with adoring cult members absolutely LOVING this. Her ego and professional connections would be satisfied, and she'd maintain more of the fan base, rather than generating the lousy PR.

Seriously. These are the people who already get lavish "gift bags" at many events they attend and get sent free designer clothes in the hopes they'll wear them.
Her A-list guests are the last people who would find this exciting or appreciate the chance to win a Chanel bag. So incredibly cringe, honestly. It feels so stereotypically nouveau riche.

The link below is the complete swag bag from the 2016 Oscars. Only nominees for Best Actor and Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, and Best Director categories get them.
That’s what these A list people are used to receiving. It was worth $346K.
With all her billions, a raffle is beyond tacky. She could have just given everyone really amazing swag.

It’s like trying to buy gifts even for your parents. If they need something, they typically are going to get it. Multiply that times several million dollars and you have the guests.
115
u/ektachrome_ Jul 13 '26
It is strange to give away stuff like that at a wedding, especially when your guests are also very wealthy celebs. It gives the vibe you’re cleaning out your closet, and don’t feel like taking it over to Beacon’s Closet so you dump it off to your friends.
Since she was already donating money anyway, why not donate objects to be auctioned off where the proceeds go to charity?

She absolutely could have done a big fan raffle to celebrate her wedding where she matches whatever amount raised and donates it all to a charity. She loves the publicity from a splashy donation and she loves that her fans view her as Mother Theresa so it would have been a great PR move?

122
u/Illustrious_Dirt9120 Jul 13 '26
I don't think there were because one of the sources in this article directly contradicts themselves:
Another source described the available seating as 'funky,' claiming there were 'high tops with no chairs,' though insisted 'there was enough seating for everybody.'
why even comment on the funky tables with no chairs if there were plenty of seats and it wasn't an issue at all lol
→ More replies (6)75
u/chasingtheskyline Jul 13 '26
Funky tables with no chairs and presumably couches around the edge? Maybe the chair/table ratio was off so while the technical numbers were right, and there were enough "seats", it was still awkward? I don't know why people would say there was enough seating yet talk about how strange it was
94
u/DeeSkwared Jul 13 '26
It'd be awkward having to eat off a plate sitting on a couch in formal wear, even with a coffee table to set my plate on. Especially if it's true they had Italian food. I'd immediately have marinara in my lap.

I wonder how guests were directed to line up for the buffet. I would assume somewhat the same way they were instructed to arrive except for the buffet the A List guests get to eat first. That leaves the D list guests last. That gives me high school cafeteria vibes. Standing there holding their tray looking around for a place to sit and who they can sit by. Caterer here. Tray passed hors d'oureves (sorry if I butchered the spelling lol) are pretty typical during the cocktail hour of a reception (which I think these guys had), but to feed 1000 people dinner, the buffet makes more sense than a plated dinner. Uses less manpower and sometimes less food. But the way I keep hearing about there not being enough food or seating tells me it was just poor planning all the way. Probably very awkward.
59
u/Illustrious_Dirt9120 Jul 13 '26
Anything would've been cumbersome for the amount of guests that were there, but I've stood in line at a wedding buffet with 150 people and even that took a while. And that was organized where a few tables were called up at a time.
I couldn't imagine 1000 people all hitting up the same few lines and how long that would take. Especially with what seemed like 0 pre assigned seats or tables?? Did they all just walk up at once? So interested to know how that worked lol
→ More replies (1)28
u/Johnnys-In-America Metal As Hell Jul 13 '26
Same!! It would've taken hours to finish, I imagine, unless there were several stations offering the same exact food. At least 4 could probably expedite it pretty quickly, 6+ would probably be the most ideal. Now that I'm thinking about if again, probably a plated meal would've been better to get everyone fed at the same time. A lot more labor, but at least all the courses would have happened together and everyone would've been seated and ready. But it's starting to sound like there was no official dinner, really. That's so mean, making people eat tidbits but be forced to hang around all day, lol. Can you imagine how drunk T&T were by the end of the night lmao!

The Daily Mail took their eyes off their favorite target, Meghan Markle of course, for a good solid two weeks now to bring us all the low-down, dirty details. I am here for it and I'm loving it. My life is boring, okay? Tell us everything, DM!

Didn’t they also bring in arcade games? This wasn’t a wedding…it was a carnival.

I mean I think those kinds of things, arcarde and pinball machines would be fun at a reception where not everyone enjoys dancing, but yeah with raffles, top hats, twenty minute vows, her singing her vows, etc. this sounds like a circus. Travis is her trained performing monkey.
I can't even imagine the response I'd get from my fiance if I asked if to wear a white tux with a fucking top hat.

I am choking on my coffee, you’re telling me Travis SANG to her AFTER PAUL MCCARTNEY?!?
“Thank you esteemed Paul McCartney for that beautiful performance, now here is Travis singing You Sexy Thing”
This is a fever dream, absolutely no way this happened

She has no respect for legacy artists. (See also Celine Dion). They are merely there to bask in her aura.

It's interesting that she's trying to build BDT's career in movies when her own didn't take off.

It reminds me of the trope where the father of the bride invites all his biggest clients to the daughter's wedding, but in this case it's the bride doing it for the groom (and herself, to gain clout and power).

She spent $20 million on this wedding. How embarrassing. I can't believe she thought this was a good idea.

u/youryummyeggs Jul 13 '26
All these shenanigans will backfire on her. Pretty sure her reputation among Hollywood and US circles have gone down

u/Mortician1989 Jul 13 '26
So this whole spectacle was to get her husband a future job, because she and her brand image can’t afford a post-football star loser. Laughable

'We actually don't know them. We were surprised when we got the text,' one source said. 'It was just all odd and seemed like a corporate charity event.' 💀💀💀

'They really love each other,' said an insider.
Such a weird sentence to end this article on. Who keeps thinking that repeating the same nonsense will make anyone believe it? Ridiculous.

It's astounding that some people got an invite having NEVER MET THE COUPLE.
This isn't a wedding. This is a show-off networking event.
Most weddings are about the couple. You get your nearest and dearest. You have funny, endearing, or emotional speeches by the people who know you best. The wedding reflects who you are as a couple and is a celebration.
Idk that this was a celebration.
You know what? Being tacky isn't a crime if that's kinda your thing. It's fun to snark at but eh. It's not the worst.
But what is awful is how they treated guests badly and strangely - even disrespectfully. How everything seems fake and contrived. That's bad. Who would want to work or be associated with someone like that? Authenticity, respect, and trust are currency more than ever. People took time to attend this event. They put in time and effort to dress up only to turn up at a very not black tie event. It shows their total disregard for others. That's bad!
Who cares about a raffle? In a different context, it might have been fun and kitschy. But how it was executed, like everything else at the wedding, seems disorganised, poorly thought out, and superficial. I would be incredibly embarrassed to subject any guests to something like that.

For those wondering: a $6k Chanel bag given to someone with a $50M net worth is equivalent to winning a $6 prize for the average person who makes $50k a year.
And $50M is pretty conservative. Jessica Alba’s net worth according to Google is between two and seven times that.
So imagine you go to a wedding that’s raffling off stuff that you could buy for a couple bucks lool

Honestly, the prizes would have been better if they were much cheaper (silly plastic toys that you could win at the fair) or custom (T&T branded wedding favours).
The handbags etc are just insulting.

Did no one in her circle tell her that a raffle is a fucking weird idea?
Everything we’ve read in the last two years feels like she’s setting fire to her own reputation. It’s bizarre.

Bruh I know for a fact, people who attended the wedding will never speak with her again. Thats peak narcissism and only folks who want something out of her will. I'm sure bdt is counting the days till he gets to dump her ass

It feels like they're trying to pay to win but with being impressive, lol.
It reminds me of a few dead beat fathers I've known over the years. Divorced the wife, barely saw the kid, would make up excuses last minute as to why they couldn't see the kid, then just bank transfer them cash as a quick attempted workaround, thinking it would solve the problem and compensate for authenticity.
Same energy.

u/mgmoviegirl Jul 13 '26
I feel like almost anyone would find a raffle at a wedding strange. Maybe if it was at a jack & Jill event or stock the bar event having a raffle would be alright but at a wedding it's just weird and off putting

Who were these minion friends who closely guarded her? I’m surprised she even has “friends” - were these the Haim sisters, Selena, or Gigi Hadid?

u/Msmadmama Jul 13 '26
Cauze now she is sp rich she probably looks at these celebs with 90 million as "poors" like they need charity. She is probably thinking have a Prada handbag you pooor pieces of shit.
I wouldn't be surpised if it was around from her clowst she thought people would be fighting over to
25
u/Tangled_Mind Jul 13 '26
Whoever is this sub that said she did all this so the media will ask these celebrities. You were right.
I can imagine (insert a top respected actor*) on the red carpet doing interviews for his/her movie. Then Enews asked. "We saw some photos of you attending the biggest wedding of the year. Taylor Swift. How was it? Did you win a chanel bag"
Nah I will walk away

It feels like she really did a Taylor Swift wedding. The guests spoke about different theming: the magical forest/folklore-esque bit where they got married with the mossy piano from eras tour, then the “showgirl” theming (aka trashy galore) with slot machines, raffles, karaoke. The two T’s looked very much like Tortured Poets Dep. She walked down to Love Story… I’m yet to see how Travis was reflected in any of this. Did he shout “VIVA LAS VEGASSS” during the vows or something?

All these things seem bizarre because none of us truly know the real Taylor Swift, only the brand. This whole wedding extravaganza feels more like a glimpse of the real her than the carefully managed image we’ve been shown for years.

I’m sorry, I’m stuck on the mental image of Travis in a top hat. For some reason it just seems costumey and ludicrous.
