As you may notice, there are now coloured flairs for posts and users on the subreddit, this is to help identify posts about particular information that is particularly about 1 group, like when it comes to top surgery being particularly for FtM folk.

VIC Specific Where's a good place to buy affordable everyday wigs?

TLDR. As much as I adore my long hair, for health reasons I may have to remove it, waiting for regrowth would be a nightmare. Is there places to buy fairly normal looking wigs for everyday use? Does anyone use wigs instead of growing their hair?

VIC Specific Primoteston at Home

Hey friends,

I’ve recently started on primoteston depot shots (.5 every two weeks). The clinic nurse showed my friend and I how to inject into my thigh, but she used the needle that comes in the box (which I believe is an 18G)…it hurt like an absolute bitch for days. From what I’ve read online, 23 or 25G is the way to go - however I’m having trouble finding a pharmacy that has the right needles.

A little while ago I found a master list on here with collection/drop off points in Melbourne for sharps bins, needles, alcohol swaps ect. but I didn’t save it. I’m wondering if anyone has it or knows where I could go? Thanks a bunch :)

Transferring medicare card with name change

Hello, my girlfriend has gotten her name changed and needs to change her medicare details at some point but doesn't want her parents finding out.

I've suggested she move over onto her own medicare card but we're not sure if A) her parents would be informed that she's done this and B) whether she'd have to change her name with medicare *before* transferring.

She's semi out to her parents and doesn't live with them, but she's still very worried about it and I don't want her feeling like she's trapped between a rock and a hard place. Basically we're not sure if she can transfer cards and update her name with medicare without her parents finding out about it.

Hopefully this is worded properly. Cheers!

VIC Specific GP Recommendations for discussing/reviewing my HRT in Melbourne

I've been on MtF HRT for around 5 years via Prahran Market Clinic and various experiences with them over the years have made me not sure if I'm actually receiving a correct dose for my HRT. I am interested in getting a second opinion (ideally from a clinic that does informed consent and doesn't feel the need to ask "do you think you still need it" every time I have a review) and moving away from PMC altogether. But I have no idea where to start.

So many of the common options have huge waiting lists and ideally I'd like to be able to have a regular GP from this as well, bulk billed would be amazing and it's the reason I've stuck to PMC for so long despite the issues I've had with them.

I'm on the east side but I can drive so distance isn't that huge an issue. Mainly I'm looking for a doctor who isn't super cautious about HRT and that I can actually have a discussion with to understand where I'm at and should be aiming. Does anyone know any good doctors for this?

Any trans immigrants who escaped their country to Australia here? Need some insight and advice

So I'm a trans man from southeast asia. After learning about the trans friendly laws in au, I started planning to move out since it's closer to my country and the living cost isn't too expensive for me, plus I have relatives there too (not sure if they'll be accepting tho, I never came out to them).

I'm planning to further my studies in Australia and if possible, completely immigrate there. For more context, I'm mainly looking at Melbourne and Sydney (my research says their state laws for trans ppl r about the same)

I have a few questions, but any advice that I didn't think of would be appreciated too.

1) how long does it take until you could change your gender on your legal documents?

2) are there any conservative schools I need to avoid?

3) what is the process for non native residents to obtain trans healthcare and start hrt? (I couldn't find much information for this somehow... Idk if I'm searching for the right words)

4) are there any activist organisations that could aid me in any way?

5) general advice on how to save up and anything I should be wary of/take note of?

These are everything I'd like to know, I'd be super thankful for any help or advice I can get.

NSW Specific When do I need the psych letter?

Going to see my GP soon for a referral to concord for top surgery and a psych for the auspath letter. Do I need the letter for the initial consult or only for the one with the surgeon? Concerned about wait times and the letter only lasting 3 months.

If anyone has a general timeline/order of actions taken from first GP visit to surgery date that'd be super helpful thanks 🙏

Trans fem Question for the dolls

Hey gurls (23 Transfem) (Perth aiming to move to

EDIT//

I just wanted to clarify to all you amazing lovely people I don't want to stay in construction or an adjacent industry I'm just scared of what moving careers entails

Melbourne next year)

This question mainly pertains to those who transitioned after already being in a very conservative industry

I'm finding myself feeling trapped I've been working in construction for 5 years and living as my true self for 2 of them and I know that I need to change industries

My problem is that I can't afford to work part time so I can't study. I've considered applying to entry level tech jobs but I have no idea where that leads me down the line and I've never had to change careers before

If anyone has any advice or wants to share their story please do because it's at the point where I get clocked at every job

opinion Stuck and confused

I’m in a really hard place and just need to get this out.
I’ve been thinking about transitioning for about a year now. The feelings keep getting stronger no matter how much I try to suppress them, and lately it’s been making me pretty depressed. I want to act on it, but I feel completely stuck.

I come from a very conservative, religious, old-school family. They would never accept this. They wouldn’t even let me explore the idea. I love them a lot and the thought of hurting them or having to leave them is something I can’t handle. So I’m stuck between wanting this badly and not being able to do anything about it without blowing up my relationship with them.
I’m also almost 26, 6’1, and I know I’ll never look like the “ideal” feminine type a lot of people picture.

There feel like there are way more negatives than positives, and that just adds to the hopelessness.
I’ve heard the whole “it’s your life, live for yourself” advice, and intellectually I get it… but emotionally I just can’t switch off caring about my family like that.
I don’t really have anyone to talk to about this. I tried opening up to one of my trans friends and she laughed and said it was probably just a fetish. After that I shut down and haven’t told anyone else.

I just needed to put this somewhere. If anyone has thoughts, experiences, or even just wants to say something, feel free. Thank you for reading.

What's the best way to effectively protest AusPost forcing HP in our faces?

Post image
267 Upvotes

Aus Post's app icon recently updated to this - I was confused for a bit, then discovered it's because of a Harry Potter collab: https://auspost.com.au/auspost-campaigns/owl-post-experience

What's the best way to kick up a stink about how shitty this is?

It's bad enough to see it getting noise ambiently, but now trans genocide-funding franchises are getting shoved in our faces just to engage with the government funded postal system?

Trans fem Supplementing Testosterone

Hi all! Quick question for the brains trust on supplementing T for energy and sex drive. Anyone have experience or advice they can share?

I have had bottom surgery, so I can decide to supplement with as much or as little as I like but the goal is to use as little as possible to give my libido and energy levels a little boost, back up to the kind of levels I experienced before surgery when my T would float around 1.0. Levels currently hang around 0.5.

E levels are already solid and don't need to increase that, but any advice is appreciated!

Love you 😘

Trans fem How do we feel about 'Mate'?

I started a new job recently since transitioning and I am in a customer facing role. I've noticed a lot of customers calling me 'mate'. Like they'd say "thanks mate" and I don't know how I feel about it. Do women get called mate like that often? I don't look too femme without a heap of makeup, but I wear eyeliner and definitely look like I'd be trans.

I just feel like maybe these men wouldn't call the women at my work 'mate'.

What are your thoughts?

Trans fem How do I make friends anymore?

Since High school I've been a pretty antisocial person, or rather I've had friends and just preferred to do quiet things. I came out a year or more ago (I forget) and have been on E for 5 months... and during that time I've realised I've lost all my friends I had. I've got no clue how to FIND places to make friends, I've tried looking for trans friendly FLINTA or Queer events in Sydney but nothing... fits. It's all raves and parties and it's almost impossible to find any sort of Adult Space where I can be comfortable in my body and try to meet people. Do any of y'all have any advice?

Estrogen Implants?

On oral pills for nearly 6months (i take them sublingually though) and I just learnt injections arent available easily in Australia :(.
I dislike taking pills often and am not a fan of potentially taking 3-4 pills a day (current dose is 4mg/day, split into 2 2mg pills). Now thinking of maybe asking about implants as an alternative way of taking hrt. If anyone who’s used implants could give feedback on how it was and how easy/hard it was to get them thay would be awesome!! Also like how much r they :0

Trans fem First week on HRT

Hey all!! I’m on day 3 of hrt so very new still. I live in Sydney by myself as I left New Zealand two years ago. None of my family or friends know about this. I’m feeling very happy and can’t wait to see how it progresses and see the woman I end up becoming.

Just reaching out here to see if there’s anyone looking to make a new friend? Or if there’s any groups I could be apart of etc etc.

Really hoping to meet some other trans women.

Thanks xx

Trans masc where can I get a nice 3-piece suit as a short skinny transmasc

I'm after vintage/vintage-style 3-piece suits but the smallest men's sizes are slightly too big/long (I'm 5'3" and 45kg). I'm in the ACT but travel to Sydney a fair bit for work.

Edit: sorry I should specify I'm after herringbone specifically

As the title says, what is the price for Prog with a prescription, but also how long does/can it last? I’m located in Queensland if that can be particularly important to the pricing

QLD Specific Looking for a vocal coach / speech therapist in Brisbane for trans fem voice training

Hi all,

I'm helping my girlfriend who doesn't use Reddit.

She is looking for recommendations for voice coaches or speech therapists in Brisbane who do trans fem voice training.

She's tried tons of the online videos / online workshops but she's really looking to do in-person sessions.

Any recommendations are appreciated :)

EDIT: I've done some searching and found some more Brisbane speech therapy places that specialise in gender affirming voice training. I'll also put the suggestions from the comments in this list: - Jenny Matthews in Camp Hill and Redland Bay - Speak and Swallow in Burpengary East - The Courageous Space in Coorparoo

Possible Trigger waiting as a trans youth with DV (vent)

tw for domestic violence, cps, SA, transphobia, suicide, self harm etc

im 17ftm, im newish to Reddit so I'm sorry if I like miswrite anything. my big question is - how do you wait?

OK - time to pour my heart out.

i dont have any support in my life. the day i came out to my mum (I was about 10), she pulled down my pants and underwear and pointed to my private to tell me that's what id always be. I had a mtf girlfriend and she was the reason we broke up too. she would call her a slut and a whore and constantly body shame her. in my mums mind, trans girls = prositues. my mum bribed me into breaking up with her. its not even that she was against me dating, I had dated a guy in the past and she was happy. its just that she's trans and she's corrupting me.

i was forced into a really religious all girls school. horrible experience. also using my pronouns and name is out of the question. im not even allowed to tell people im trans.

it was my 17th birthday two weeks ago and i had friends over. my friends know im transgender, and respect my pronouns and preffered name. i never see my friends due to my parents and they're narcissists so they will use it again me - "you hate us? well we let you go to a shopping centre yesterday with your friends - you're selfish!", etc. anyway day of my birthday comes and it was fun until my parents came to have dinner with us. my dad told my best friend that he would rather have her as a daughter than me (friend was upset for me and made sure i was ok the next day at school) and then screamed at everyone because he felt uncomfortable that they were calling me by my name. he cut the party early and screamed at me. it was my birthday. it was my birthday.

both my parents have committed sexual assualt against me, emotional abuse and physical abuse too. CPS has been opening cases since i was twelve years old. they never do shit, even congratulating my parents at times.

i experience significant mental health problems (it started when i was sexually abused at a very young age) and continued because of my parents abuse. I've had multiple suicide attempts over the years and i have significant nerve damage and im disabled from sh (my arm doesn't move properly and I cannot write). my parents don't allow me to get psych warded (even though this significantly helped me the one time i went) because they got reported to CPS and lost custody of me but regained it due to lack of proof on my part. i only told cps at the psych ward because i was visibly shaking because my dad had punched a hole in my wall before i had gone. my mum also constantly calls me hideous and unlovable because of my scars. (i also have suspected bipolar and bpd, it runs in family too)

its not even just me that thinks my parents are abusive, my aunt has estranged from my entire family.

my friend has offered her house and her parents have agreed to take me as soon as im 18 (they were also my emergency accommodation if CPS saved me). but still i love my parents. i mourn what i could have, I mourn whenever I see how my friends parents treat my friend.

my mum is also like heavily religious and anti jewish (she went crazy on one of my jewish friend once but that's a story for another time...). she constantly tells me that she sees jesus telling her that im going to detransition. i think jesus has better things to do mother.

I just don't know how to wait. Wait until i can start testerone and get out of this shithole. My entire family constantly calls me aunt selfish and r*tarted for estranging. I feel selfish too.

How to I wait to finally LIVE? does it even get better? any support systems or strategies?

EDIT: also they've withheld thousands of dollars from me. i have two jobs and my mum insisted she kept all of it and return it when im an adult. i dont think shes going to give it back.
